I respect Neeson so much--he was faithful to his wife, you can tell he's both kind and manly, his accent rocks!----then he has roles like this, and I'm like, he's really sixty years old??
The 6 seconds after credits is not in the short-story that the move screenplay came from. What happens in the (final) battle is entirely irrelevant and takes away from the fable's story/message; that you enter the fray each day with full will to make it through. It's about the attitude, and not the result. I am not going to discourse on the likely result. It was fed into the movie after the credits, likely at the behest of the studio(s) -- they know there are those that "need" it.
I think what happened and was explained in the after credits is that Liam(Ottway) defeated the Alpha Male wolf and therefore gained the respect of the rest of the pack and was resting alongside them...somewhat becoming the new Alpha
I think the scene after the credits basically showed us that Liam's character defeated the wolf and was staying with it until it died somewhat slowly. Earlier in the movie, the same thing happened and I don't think thAt is coincidence.
@RentalCop34 Liam died, it glorified his death and the movie. At the end, he was fearless, the scene before his death was his flashback to his wife attached to some medical tubes. The love of his life gone, with nothing to lose, he finally accepts death, he is no longer afraid of it. Him sitting with the wolf in the after credits signify peace, they were never really enemies anyway.
Awesome and beautifully crafted film! It definately pulls out all of the stops in terms of avoiding Hollywood predictabilities! If you like a gooood survival movie you will love this.

Neeson farts into the wolf's face, until the wolf loses consciousness.
