@daffydoug I didn't say that - I love Chet and so do many others. He was one of the greats.
I recommend that you read "One Long Tune" by Forbes-Roberts - available on amazon, and I am quite certain you will enjoy reading it very much if you like guitar and guitarists. Then post here.
Both of these musicians had an amazing ability to make the simplest of songs into master pieces on the guitar. I wouldn't make any assertions that one was better than the other. Jazz guys are going to want to say Breau and they'll want to say that because Breau was a jazz musician. But so was Chet- it's just that no one ever seemed to call him a jazz musician.
@gxtmfa That's because he was so versatile and could play ANYTHING from classical, to country, to blues, to rock, to jazz that it was impossible to put Chet's ability in a box. He defied classification.

Lenny was unreal good. I lived next to him for about a year in the 70s in Nashville. He was a truely gentle spirit. When he played at Mississippi Whiskers on sundays, every guitar player in town would line up to see him. He could play three songs in three different time signatures and styles at the same time. There's never been anyone like him.
Chet was beyond words in ability and his contibution to the music industry. Lenny was a monster that Chet tried to save from the abyss of drugs. A triumphant but sad recording. Chet lived the full life and got the acolades. Lenny died too young.
@chaosIsTheOnlyPower Agree'd but even Chet thought of Lenny Breau as a genius and he actually was one of the few guitarists that could blow Chets mind...and even chet was known to say Lenny was the "BEST"
Nobody had tone like Chet.Lenny was more of a jazz guitarist but his tone was thin.I think to facilitate harmonics.God bless these two great guitarists as they are sorely missed.
Lenny's tone is not great on this but in general he had awesome tone especially on nylon string. I just read his biography One Long Tune and apparently around the time Lenny recorded this with Chet he hadn't been playing much and was very unhappy with his playing in general. But if you listen to his playing on The Legendary Lenny Breau...Now recorded a couple of years later, his playing and tone are absolutely awesome. That album was recorded at Chet's house as this cut was.
I don't know the name, but basically he's playing harmonics and harmonizing them with intervals that sound good, sounds like he's doing them in arpeggio form too but my ear isn't that good
He is playing harmonic and regular note at same time or letting them overlap with regular notes so it is a harmonized harmonic, most people call it harp harmonics. Most of the patterns have equal number of harmonics and regular notes. Often they are not unisons though.,
I agree, there is something real special about these two playing together in this arrangement. The sound is just incredible! All those great jazz chords. I love it!
Chet asserted that Lenny was better - who are we to argue with the man himself?

@mvp019 Let me put it this way. Chet was known for being very humble and self effacing.

@daffydoug Let me put it this way - both were great, but Lenny was better; he was doing things that all the great players of his day were amazed at.

@mvp019 Guitar players weren't amazed at Chet??

If you listen with headphones you can hear a door open at 2:18. It sounds like an aim door, but I can't be certain.

The harmonics in this are brilliant!
But another thing has caught my ear, and that's the short staccato outro chord at about 4:37.
Does anyone perhaps know if there's a name for this technique? It's also used in Tim Buckley's "I woke up".
