According to Halakha (something not all jewish people are comfortable with for obvious reasons) to be truly jewish requires at least a jewish mother, while Israel is willing to allow citizenship to any person who can prove jewish ancestry regardless of current religious practice. There are a few genetic markers as well, such as higher prevalence of certain cancers and tay-sachs among the Ashkenazi

@hardcorezombi Its nothing to do with the jews being special, its to do with the fact that it goes beyond being just a religion to being a distinct ethnic and cultural group. The Jewish religion is a banner but its only part of the equation, there are deep cultural and genetic ties that you are not taking into account, so I would say that discriminating against a jewish person is just as bad as discriminating against a Chinese or Italian person (for example).

Do most of you know that Perlman is a Polio victim and when you see him live you're struck by watching him drag his legs to his seat? Someone carries his Stradavarius for him...then he plays and the word 'disabled' simply dissolves and you cannot reconcile what you've just seen to what you now hear.
