The nazi idea for creating the master race was an entirely secular ideology. It stemmed from darwinian evolution and nietzches conception of the will to power. There is a reason why he doesn't debate philosophers of religion, or philosophers in general; they would tear his fuzzy logic to shread. Hitchens great intellectual failure here (assuming he isn't simply lying outright in order to flatter his audience) is his assumption that the genome is a less harsh master than God. Such an omission goes a long way in discrediting Hitching as any kind of thinker, though it does qualify him as a comedian.

This isn't a concept / idea that only Christianity postulates. It exists amongst scientists too. Also, Christianity used the bible to justify slavery, then dissenters used that same book to argue doing away with it. It's very silly, not a shinning moment in Christian history.

The doctrine has to explicitly promote violence, otherwise "in the name of" applies to atheism as well. If I kill people "in the name of" the Care Bears, does that make the Care Bears sadistic? Atheism, the belief that God or a deity doesn't exist. It is indeeda rejetion, but it's a system of belief nontheless.
Christianity, a religion centered around the teachings of Jesus of nazareth that rebukes violence and coersion.
There is no correlation between the violence of Christians and their religion. Just like there's no correlation between atheism and violence.

Christianity is a belief system. It is fair to use the actions of Christians as an indictment against the religion when the religion explicitly condones said actions or leads its followers to believe that such actions could be justified.
Atheism is not a belief system. Atheism is the rejection of a single claim. You cannot go from 'I do not believe in gods' to 'must stage a communist revolution'...

The nazi idea for creating the master race was an entirely secular ideology. It stemmed from darwinian evolution and nietzches conception of the will to power. Hitler was acting in the name of scientific progress. he may have believed in the pagan gods or whatever but his ideology was entirely secular.

@Challuayacu... You're correct, he did debate William Lane Craig. Up until watching a bit of that debate a day or two ago, I hadn't observed Hitchens debate anyone of a true philosophical background.
Having said that, Hitchens' logic (or lack thereof at times) at times completely bunk. Even worse, he shows a tremendous disregard for intellectual honesty (as does Dawkins) regarding the athiestically fueled regimes of Pol Pot, Stalin, Mao, et cetera.
