His logic doesn't quite work. Let's see, save 20% on a $500 camera - OK he saved $100. But he wouldn't bother to save 20% on a $60,000 Porsche? Nah, I'll give the local dealer that extra $12,000 - I saved $100 on a camera this month so I can afford to piss away $12,000. Shrewd thinking. Sure, if you're shopping for $20,000 econo cars there is probably not a ton of savings but anything luxury/high end and you'd have to be a fool not to shop the US when the dollar is close to par.
This guys forgets one HUGE important fact: when you take a car to your dealership to get it fixed under warranty, the dealer doesn't actually pay anything!! They bill the OEM for the labor, parts, and shipping the old parts back to the OEM if they want them + any other extra expenses. Dealers make a decent amount of money on warranty if they fix it right the first time.
We pay more for our cars over here and our average salaries are way below the US salaries.
