I am prior military, and i believe it should be repealed. I served on a aircraft carrier and had 2 gay friends. DADT is stupid and only serves to alienate those in our military that do, and did the same job i did, but because they had a different sexual orientation, were forced to hide a secret as if it was wrong. It is a law based on fear, nothing more.

If this does go to SCOTUS, Justice Kennedy will join the liberals. He has been a big ally in support of LGBT causes. He was a big player in the Lawrence v. Texas (2003) and Romer v. Evans (1996) cases. If the Democrats cowardly punt this issue then the courts will resolve it.

I am prior military, and i believe it should be repealed. I served on a aircraft carrier and had 2 gay friends. DADT is stupid and only serves to alienate those in our military that do, and did the same job i did, but because they had a different sexual orientation, were forced to hide a secret as if it was wrong. If this does go to SCOTUS, Justice Kennedy will join the liberals. He has been a big ally in support of LGBT causes. He was a big player in the Lawrence v. Texas (2003) and Romer v. Evans (1996) cases. If the Democrats cowardly punt this issue then the courts will resolve it.

@Neoguivre As you said, we have no evidence that gays have greater risk of spreading STDs than straights. If having sex in the army is so bad, then make a rule that forbids sex with fellow soldiers. For everoyne! no matter if you are gay or straight. Or make a rule that forces you to use condoms if you have sex, since the problem is STDs that would certainly work. I don't see how forbidding you to be gay serves that purpose at all!

You keep saying gays should renounce to their rights when joining the military, but not providing one single reason for doing so. I can accept that soldiers have some special restrictions, their own law, and all of that, but only when there's a reason for doing it, not just because we enjoy abusing them!

Humans are not naturally monogamous. Also, it has been shown in that being gay is not a choice; you are born with whatever sexuality that you realize you have once puberty hits. We can define what it is as a field of influence, because we know how it operates in the universe. And some scientists think that it is made up of particles called gravitons which travel at the speed of light. However, if we are to be honest, we do not know what gravity "is" in any fundamental way - we only know how it behaves.
