There is certain government control over national channel, but private TV stations can broadcast what they want. It is impossible for government to ban Russian news, after all its market economy - where's demand there's supply. Russian channels are available on the cable and in the air. Russian culture and language was forced on us for years, so it's us who should be complaining.

there is no other motives. there was a small 15min. time news show on national lithuanian tv and tv managers desided to close it, because, like it said in video it had low ratings. many russians who lives in Lithuania a longer time already speaks and understands lithuanian language. and another thing in thease days you can watch russian tv stations using cabel tv and even internet so there is no actual problem here.
Really, nobody watched that programme except a few old pensioneers, cause the time was just before you get home after work. If the program is watched by no one, why should it be broadcasted? And if it should by some political reasons, Russia can pay for that -- it has enough funds I guess.

Really good Lithuanian books about Holocaust in Lithuania were written only after 1995. I am sure, not all Lithuanians have read them yet or thought about it deeply. When Lithuania belonged to the USSR, it was not allowed to study Lithuania's history in depth, so Lithuanians did not really trust the Soviet books about Lithuanian history. They preserved their own myths about holocaust then instead. But closing the program in Russian was not a sign of hate to Russians.;)
That Russian news program was NEVER exactly created and/or payed for broadcasting by the local Russian community. Local Russians are not prohibited to create their schools, radio stations, TV programs, but their bitching won't be welcomed, if what is payed for by LT state would be considered useless by the LT state here.

There is certain government control over national channel, but private TV stations can broadcast what they want. It is impossible for government to ban Russian news, after all its market economy - where's demand there's supply. Russian channels are available on the cable and in the air. Russian culture and language was forced on us for years, so it's us who should be complaining.

You'll make it--it takes time, though, especially when there are bad memories. The US still struggles with multiculturalism, but things have improved a great deal over the past 50 years. People need to make friends across cultures. That way, when someone says, "Russians are all just a bunch of (this or that)", you can think of your Russian friend and say, "Oh no they're not."

there is no other motives. there was a small 15min. time news show on national lithuanian tv and tv managers desided to close it, because, like it said in video it had low ratings. many russians who lives in Lithuania a longer time already speaks and understands lithuanian language. and another thing in thease days you can watch russian tv stations using cabel tv and even internet so there is no actual problem here.

Really good Lithuanian books about Holocaust in Lithuania were written only after 1995. I am sure, not all Lithuanians have read them yet or thought about it deeply. When Lithuania belonged to the USSR, it was not allowed to study Lithuania's history in depth, so Lithuanians did not really trust the Soviet books about Lithuanian history. They preserved their own myths about holocaust then instead. But closing the program in Russian was not a sign of hate to Russians.;)

I do agree that the Russian news by our national channel were a lot more objective than the ones by most Russian channels (at least when it came down to the relations of the two countries).
Oh and I don't see how Russian language has been taught at the university of Vilnius for 200 years when it was closed for over 80 years for spreading ideas of independence from the Russian empire.

what is lithuania? who is their most famous writer? general? political leader? athlete? scientist? um. yeah. last i checked their biggest contribution was colaborating with the nazis's during the war. i like darius kaspiritus cuz he took out eric lindros. that was fuckin sweet. but now back to this story. i don't wanna belittle this country. i'm sure they have nice people.but honestly, their biggest claim to fame was that stalin was considerate enough to let them join the ussr in 1939.
