this is sooo boring... i'd rather listen to slipknot or Black Veil Brides... i hate school for making me endure this pain by watching this and writting a paper on it D:
After viewing the grand finale of the 2011 YouTube Symphony Orchestra, I am truly awed by this amazing experiment in classical music. This is proof that classical music is alive and well in the 21st century, and one of the main reasons is that it has adapted to reach contemporary audiences through digital technology. Thank you, YouTube, for contributing to the accessibility of the arts
i may be 14, but i really hope that they do this eeeevery year or so, so that maybe after these 8 years of me mastering my cello, just maybe i could get selected or somethin, ive done all state, all county, nation finals, this should be next.
A high school viola player finds a genie in the bottle. He gets 3 wishes. First he wishes to be a better violist. The genie makes him good enough to play in the New York Philharmonic. His second wish, he wants to be an EVEN BETTER violist. He becomes a world renowned soloist and is accepted as the best viola player to ever live. His last wish, he wants to be even BETTER. Now he plays second violin in his high school orchestra.
@memoryanemone and, incidentally, their being good musicians says nothing about what kind of people they generally are. i am sure they are just like any cross-section of humans - some nice, some not, some sexist, some not. the music is lovely, but if one "dislike" (with an explanation in the comments, no less!) is that big a deal, then someone either needs to chill out, or youtube, which put this orchestra together, ought not have such a terrible avenue available for people to use!
speak for yourself, jordanartuso. i "disliked" because i went to high school with one of the musicians, ben chan, and he was a sexist, arrogant bully.
@glammylady87 so you dislike a video, with one hundred other musicians who worked hard to make it into this orchestra, played their heart out to the audience and viewers and who are probably kind hearted... because you hate one person. 95 people who have nothing to do with that 1 person. Maybe you should speak for yourself first.
HA, BUT how much MONEY do you need to do that? Theres no way in Hell I could go to NY to play even if I was accepted and I live in GA. Thats why I didn't even think about it. In the back of my mind I thought they would just put together 100 videos into only one like several people here have done with their computer software. OH SO THATS IT! So whether of not they found everyone here in the USA to be in the YSO, they wanted foreigners to be accepted so they trashed really good players here in USA
@celloprof Are you saying there was positive discrimination toward foreigners? Classical music isn't as "big" in the US as it is elsewhere, Eastern Europe and south-east Asia especially. It would be mindblowingly patriottic to think all the big talent is in the USA. This was done honestly. Yes, the US is the biggest economy in the world by far, but 307 million is only 4.5% of the world population, and YT is very global. And a US-only 'YSO' is more ridiculous than you imagine. Any comeback?
@Plutonar Nah. Its just that how many people tried to join the YSO? Heck, a quarter of the best players could have lived in Romania for all I know. It makes me wonder. I think it would be a coincidence if there was one good player from each country in that YSO. If there were 3 musicians from Nigeria or something that happened to be really good then fine. Here in the USA, people tend to have this equal fairness, non discriminatory attitude towards things like this.
A symphonic orchestra is one of the things I wish to see live someday. Never wanted to waste money on concerts that sound equally good on my stereo. A symphonic orchestra as an experience is something else.
@AmaLeGay usually bass clarinet is the lowest of the clarinet section that orchestra peices have... but i have seen one or two pieces for contra clarinet... worth a chance i reckon :D
