Aah, I only moved to Bolton in 1987, so am very much an incomer, and the canal water was long gone by then...
Do you know what the large white building on Radcliffe Road was - right next to the canal bridge, on the same side of the road as the post office? You can see it quite clearly in a couple of the shotts, and it's very big - My immediate thought was that it was a pub, but the shot of the frontage shows no sign of a pub sign (or a door for that matter).
Excellent compilation of still, Alf... particularly pleased to see some of the old shots at the Darcy Lever end. Some of the pics used to be featured on the walls of the Farmers Arms in the late 1980s/early 1990s - in particular the one of the bloke feeding the swans. I particualrly like this one (and the aerial shots of Damside aqueduct, the viaduct and Lever Bridge Mills) because they fairly clearly show the plot of land where my house was to be built in later years :)
@zetlander2010 Thanks for the comments!, I used live close to there in Hacken Lane as a child and the canal although diused was still filled with water back then and of course the viaduct was still up :-)
After the school hols,It was a sad fact a desk and chair was empty..Child had drowned in the canal.
I really do hope they reopen the Little Lever side tho'...Lovely cycle ride in summer.
I'm trying to remember whether that was just a private house...I know where the pic was taken, My Bro' had a friend live in those houses about 1961/2 and passed it many time but I was only around 4 or 5 :-)
Remember the post office of course, Farmers Arms, Darcy Lever tip which again was on the left of that pic.
Heh, So much for health and safety those days, Tip in front, Sewer works right at the bottom of our road and River at the back!

@tjsmudger Typical British weather friend :-(
The few times I've been on this route, I've lucky it's been nice and sunny.
One time, I took the other canal route, Off road, Through what seemed miles of nothing, Came out at the side of Prestwich Hospital.
