Ron Paul brings up important things no else does, but he's a racist old cook. If you want someone to legalize weed and end the wars, vote for someone like Nader. He won't give your employer the power to kill you on the job.
@lalem91 I think it's pretty obvious the poster meant that Paul would oppose regulations that keep workplaces safe - because, in a free market, if a workplace is dangerous, people just won't work there! It works in theory but in the real world there is not and can never be enough competition for people to freely "choose" where they work. Most people have little real choice about where they work - in my town there is basically one employer. But, ya, me and everyone else here could just MOVE.
@donteatthefishsticks the only thing that will make an occupation safer is an improvement in technology. government demanding that the job be safer will simply make the company hire fewer people. or, even worse in the case of the town you live in, have the company simply move its operation elsewhere in the world. and as for moving - well yeah. that's exactly how you would stimulate competition in a free market if you felt the "only" business was not treating you fairly.
@lalem91 These models assume adequate competition (i.e. people are always free to move from their job to a similar job if their job is too dangerous) and perfect information (on the part of the people who are expected to evaluate the safety of their job). I'm not necessarily disagreeing with your point but to say that improvement in technology is the ONLY thing that can make an occupation safer is simply not accurate. I'm all for improving competition by deregulating, but not as an absolute.
@donteatthefishsticks the free market has its own way of dealing with jobs people find undesirable or too dangerous and its that these jobs tend to offer greater rewards. i have friends right out of high school who began work on oil rigs and started between 60-70k a year. its a risky job, but necessary for our society. government regulations would reduce their pay to make the job only marginally more safe, but that should be up to workers, management, and possibly unions.
There is never going to be another draft, because they would have to draft girls too, them being equel too. Nobody wants their little girls getting killed
Yes I know several Mormons. I also studied World Religion for 2 semesters and did an intensive 3 month study on Mormonism. I also have had horrible experiences with Mormons proselytizing my kids without any regard. I want to exercise my right to vote this year. Romney will destroy what is left of the economy plus what I know about the hierarchy of the Mormon church, there is no way I would support a Mormon in a position such as the President of the US. It's either Obama or I won't vote again.
I don't trust the government to begin with but Romney has been voting Democrat for the past 30yrs. So why is he running for the Republican party? Is our country tapped out of solid candidates? While it's obvious that rudimentary cellular life begins at conception what does that really mean (religion aside) in terms of human rights? Making abortion illegal seems impossible as well so would more focus on education help.. etc
@CazyDayz So, the greatness of the nation hinges on your mom not being able to feed herself? Think logically, no one is going to completely shut off any welfare switch or there'd be mass hysteria. He even says the plan is to get people who are able to work away from welfare especially the younger generations, not to impoverish the old people who already can't fend for themselves.
just like all progressives.. always like to leave things in the grey shaded area "wellllllllllll let's keep the door open just in case need to do it welllllll let's not say we won't go to war unless declared and it threatens our national security because in some perverted ways war might secure our financial interest as well" all the while assuming if you leave the door open, nobody would abuse it, and the country doesn't breed weapon makers and become self perpetual.. progressives sigh.
Come now don't you guys get it, Gingrich is really in this race to help Odumba, his only purpose is to sabotage the Republican Vote. As for Romney he's only Odumba's clone, that leaves only one true candidate, and that is Ron Paul !
