Yes the stolen generation what a pity. I heard a story from an aboriginal lady who told her story about being taken away from her mother at a young age. She was looked after and brought up by a white family. She ended up as a head matron in a queensland hospital . Just think what a terrible life she has endured.
im sick of hearing people saying sorry for the actions of other people long ago in the past. i didnt take your kids so dont ask me to say sorry! one thing i will say is im sorry you abos are to pissed most of the time to hold a job, im sorry you dont want to work and want to get welfare to pay for grog instead of work for it, im sorry your children would rather sit in the bush under a tree and sniff glue instead of going to school. and most of all im sorry i wasted 2 mins writing this comment.
julzbra1 - you are an idiot. You may have not done anything personally to hurt the indigenous people (aside from that comment) but that doesn't mean you can't say sorry for those who did. The majority of the people who did do something to the Aboriginal people are not alive to say sorry, so those of us who are need to show some humility and apologise. I am not aboriginal but I am so so glad that Kevin Rudd said sorry. At least that means its been recognised and something can happen now
I believe in this songs message. We are all people, yes we've screwed up...badly. But that doesnt mean we can't try and love each other now. We can make a difference in the world by loving one another instead of hating. The only thing that comes from hate is violence and anger. Those produce death. We should celebrate life and what it has given us. A chance to live among other living creatures.
But its called respect. To say sorry for things your ancestors may have done to the aboriginals. And its not our failures, its those who basically invaded us. I am aboriginal and it is about time they all said sorry to the aboriginals. Deserves them right.
@julzbra1 im aboriginal and its not our fault i feel sorry for u cuz ur a idiot and are very narrow minded as things are not that simple or black and white as that
Why we should we apologise for other peoples mistakes? It had nothing to do with me.... We don't say sorry to the Jews for what Hitler did do we? And one little word is not going to change a thing.
sorry to rain on every ones parade but there were people here before the aboriginals. many historical evidence and sources have proved this so i wonder what happened to them hmmmm?
Thats great...Would love to see a video of the choir performing the song, especially being that you guys are from Canada! Send me a post if you think its possible! Thanks...
Beautiful song, no visual effects needed here, with the powerful music, my mind instantly depicts the ppl, their history and their future,...i may only be an optimist, but truly, i hope the future holds a better deal for 'em!
Money well wasted, thanks Mr Rudd. Your an idiot, you've just opened the gates for greedy people who want nothing but money as their compensation. Our schools and hospitals are absolutely crap, yet how many millions will the govt now have to fork out in compensation. Where is the sorry from England for all the convicts it sent over here on the first fleet. Men, women and children all removed from their families. Do we get a sorry day, no cause it was b4 our time, look forward, not backwards.
to move forward we first must pay for the past. And another thing it is not your money it belongs to them, that is what compensation is all about. Giving back what was stolen or destroyed (ie compensation and restitution) is a requirement under international law australia ignores its international responsiblities still acts as a criminal towards the indigenous people (NT Intervention) so the issues are current. Look up yoree sovereignty for more info on this.
before we can all live together we have to acknowlege what was done and provide justice...without it sorry is empty crap spoken by those with nothing to lose.
Have you ever known any other Country to say Sorry? Has the USA said sorry to the Indains? Has any other Country takne this leap of faith. Without saying Sorry we would not have that 'empty' word to fill. The Indiginous people have said they have wanted to hear Sorry for so long, now they have now we all have, let us fix those bridges that were burnt down so long ago.
Most American States have said sorry for things, I'm not sure if they have to the Indians, but New Jersey said sorry for its involvment in the slave trade back at the start of 2008, and it was one of the last states to do so. It's not as big of a deal in America and that is a shame, but Australia needs to stand tall and proud for what our government is doing in the present, Rudd is presenting us with a new future, lets hope we can stand behind him and make sure he has the power to follow thru.
I stand corrected then, I am quite happy to admit I was wrong in my first hypothesis. Thank you for fixing that up for me, you have taught me something very important.
it does not negate what are the responsibilities of the crown and that is to compensate and restitute according to international law re genocide. we still have christian missions here for goodness sake go read the genocide reports avilable in canada they are as here.... same crown system). You probalby have no idea what has been done to the indigenous people. Apartheid is still common practice in australia and that is the truth...one law for aboiginals and other for the rest =apartheid)
Also I do know about what has happened to the Indigenous people, I studied it in two subjects last year at school Thankyou. Also I know about apartheid thanks and I do know that there is not one law for one type pf Australians and another for the other part... I also study legal studies.
please stop making generalisations about me and my education.
if the intervention in the NT is not one law for aboriginals and an other for white then what is. There is no more sexual abuse in aboriginal society then in white , yet they have not sent the ARMY into your place to set it up to steal what little they have left. I have close contacts within the original people and they would laugh at your ignorance.
I revise my last statement and alter it. i know about the majority of Australian Law, and that of Queensland because I am from Queensland. Also because you seem to expect that everyone knows eveything may I state that I do not believe I know all like you seem to do. I am still in school and still learning so get your head out of ass and give me a break okay!
that's noice :)
