@CoffeeCupNews these tips aren't really taking advantage of the Just Say Yes policy, but people mist definitely do. So many people will order a venti cup filled with ice and four shots then go to the creamers and fill their cups up with half and half. We know their cheating us but there's nothing we can do about it.
I'd also like to point out that, though we will do it, when you ask us to grind a coffee just for you and then do a pour over, it's a real hassle. When we're busy, we don't have ti
@LikeARollingStone15 one question, why does Starbucks have pour overs? When I go to any other specialty coffee shop no one gives me a hassle or gets irritated when I order a pour over, siphon or any other brew style...
@CoffeeCupNews Have or hate? We have them because we need to give people what they want; it would be rediculous to turn down business.
If you meant hate, we don't always hate them. If we're really busy, it gets us out of rhythm. But that's the same with anything-if there's only one person on bar with a line of hot drinks and someone orders a bunch of fraps it can be just as annoyng. The rhythm is most important, but remember baristas can be in bad moods too!
However, you've got to be an asshole to order a coffee that's not on the current menu. They're going to brew an entire pot just for you, and throw away 75% of it.
IF you want the BEST person to ask about the coffee and the pastry look for someone with a BLACK APRON called a COFFEE MASTER. They have extra training. Also there are ways to save money by "cheating" the Just say Yes policy, and I can tell you that the baristas you do this on talk about you later calling you a cheapskate. You are Starbucks you know you are paying for quality, if you wanted cheap go to Dunkin Donuts.
@Wesleyintheory none of these tips are taking advantage of their just say yes policy. These are well within what they offer as a company. Great addition tip btw: The Black Apron person should be the most knowledgable about their coffee.
@CoffeeCupNews Oh I didn't mean to say that these took advantage of the Just Say Yes, now the asking to brew something else during a rush I feel is taking advantage of the Just Say Yes, so it ordering a venti and telling them to split it into 2 talls, but yes what you said doesn't take advantage.
Secret three isnt really secret, it should be common knowledge... food and drink can compliment each other. Also, not all stores have warming ovens. As for the water, its tap water... so that will varry depending on location. Short and Tall use to be our only sizes, people complained so we got the grande, people complained again so we got venti, people complained about too much ice in iceed tea so now we have trenta.
@Hidepride some aren't Secrets they are really Tips for people who go to Starbucks but may not know. I worked for Starbucks for 5 years and these are just some things I noticed most people didn't know until I told them when I worked there. Starbucks water isn't tap btw, it is a minimum of triple filtered tap. Do you work for Starbucks?
@CoffeeCupNews Yes I do. And we use tap water... infact another store in a more rural area had ot shut down for a couple days due to a boil mandate (issue with a local pipe bursting). My store uses tap water, i cannot speak for the other stores I worked at nor yours, but we use tap water.
@Hidepride If you work at a corporate store then you have to have filtered water it is a starbucks standard. Everything is filtered for the coffee and the machines. Yes it is tap water but it goes through the filter system. It is often hidden in the back and some stores have different versions of it but its there somewhere
@Wesleyintheory We don't have a spiffy triple filtering system. Our water tank and the equipment with it is i nthe back, next to the mop sink. We have a standard filtering for normal kitchen sinks in our store. A little over a year ago we DID have a good one, but it kept breaking down. Thats when the higher ups decided just to leave the water due to cost issues. I asked (not to mention I worked the night it broke and flooded the store)
"This comment is really on point. I just took a road trip to Minnesota and tried my hardest to find local shops to go to on the way but they were either closed down or not open. Starbucks however was consistent and always open. "
@renix I really think in a lot of cases it is the opposite connection. Starbucks serves as a funnel for shops that have chops and serve amazing coffee.
@CoffeeCupNews If there were not DD or Sbx all of those millions/billions of dollars would go to these smaller shops. People drink coffee everyday and they will go to whatever is around, but usually to chains.
@renix totally disagree, I for one would never had been introduced to the specialty coffee industry if it weren't for Starbucks existing... Many people are like me and would never think to spend specialty prices on coffee until they were introduced to the idea by Starbucks. Yesterday I wrote an article about this on my blog.
@sliiidelappy I completely disagree. Starbucks is the entry level many people need to be introduced to coffee. Specialty coffee would not have nearly as many people enjoying if Starbucks didn't introduce them to the product. I know because I am one of those people. I know there are better coffees out there but Starbucks has it's place in the coffee industry. I am a true coffee lover, I am just not so narrow minded.
@CoffeeCupNews ok i have a question if you know so much about coffe am imagination that you are a heavy drinker but then why arent you twitching lol, no offence

Everyone (well, people into coffee anyway) knows Starbucks coffee is junk, but I still try a creme or shake-a-cino every now and again. I will add to your post and say that they use Cirqua water, not just filtered. You don't want super clean water for brewing, don't believe me post a video where you brew one with distilled and one with brita water (or better yet Cirqua added to distilled). I use Cirqua about 50% of the time for drip. You just buy the packets and add to a gallon.
@ImTheCanadianEh really? I thought if you ordered just a cup they would only charge you for one cup. At least that's what a Starbucks barista said in the comments of the post.
@CoffeeCupNews Like technicalllyyyyyy we are suppose to charge for the whole press. But you know Starbucks, always exceptions. The reason being, there is only 1 button for a french press and it charges for the whole press.. and in all honesty, if i was a customer, i definitely wouldn't wanna pay for the whole press.. which they have made me in the past :(
@ImTheCanadianEh : agree~ tho you might win by making a big deal out of it and most baristas would not want to have you hold up the line, that's when the JUST SAY YES comes into place.
