  • Damnnn this shit right here gave me the chillllsssssss!!!

  • Mickey took it to another level, redefined, advanced, REFINED, and some more shit. Yeah I've seen Jungle Boogie, Mickey, Loveboat Boogie, Spanky, Rocking Ron (AM/FM), Rock Steady, Foxy Rob, Foxy Brown, Heartbeat (that was my MAN), Walker Redds, Go Go Billy (Petworth), Howdy Doody (Prophecy), White Boy Elroy, Funky Stuff Wayne, Wink, Sauce, Smoke, T-Bone, Elmo, Big Chuck, Kenny when he was on Progression and Proper Utensils...Mickey on his best vs their best? Mickey all day.

  • Man whatever. Grandmaster Melle Mel is credited with being the progenitor of the rapping style that people borrowed from heavily through the early 80s, then Rakim came along and took it to another level - but you never hear people talking about Melle Mel is the greatest emcee ever. Respect Ty for being credited with essentially creating the pocket, but he is nowhere near Mickey's level. Mickey in 1989 is completely different than Mickey in 1996, for example.

  • Let Jungle Boogie put his touch on this beat right here. No pun intended, however, Mickey sound horrible

  • As for lead talker, there is only Funk or Benny, period. Funk is the standard bearer cause his vocal style is what everybody imitated and Benny was the Cab Calloway of Go-Go, he was a for real Bandleader. Benny wanted outfits and choreographed moves and precision. God Bless all the Go-Go bands of my youth because they are part of the soundtrack of my life from 12 years old til 45 now. They are part of us and we are part of them...

  • And even after I saw Fox at the Coliseum with the white gloves on and they turned out the lights and Foxy was getting busy and all you could see was his hands like glowing in the dark, even after that incredible performance, Boogie still my dude just like Sugarfoot Rick is my drummer even though JuJu is a monster and Footz had that pocket. And ain't nobody f'n with T-I-N-O on the guitar (respect to Whiteboy). Horns is hard too but I'll take DC on sax any day and Funky Ned/Sugar Bear is a tie.

  • If you from a certain era, then you gonna go with what you were raised on. I know that Mickey is a great percussionist, I know that Mickey played both congas and rolling toms so he did what both Boogie and David did by himself and not taking anything from Mickey or Foxy or Heartbeat or Steady or Walker or none of those great players, but in my heart, Boogie is my dude. He was the first I heard and the first I saw live and he is just who I think of first when the subject comes up.

  • @cees3500

It's not the water dance per say. It's the sound effect from the sound board.

  • i was like why is mickey slummin til i realized he was playing left handed

he got busy once he got on the other side...

i cant play left handed for shit either.

    respect.

  • Had Boogie not gone to jail.....Mickey never would been on the congos! Every congo player from that era wanted to be Jungle boogie! Real Talk!

  • @123hoyas Everyone there from the beginning has respect for Jungle Boogie

but you know damn well these youngans took congo playing to a new level.

    Respect.

  • Woooo Weeeee!!!

  • straight crankin!! they both have their place in Go Go history!!

  • Now I'll be the 1st to admit that many of the early Go-Go Bands had excellent conga players, it just so happened that Jungle Boogie & Mickey both played for the most popular bands in the city. (RE & Ayre Rayde) Brothers and sisters, listen to other old-school conga players like Rock Steady, Skin Tight, Foxy Brown, Spanky, Walker Redds, and you will notice each drew from each other but had their own unique pockets.

  • check the video with mickey and what? band another classic

  • @DCBOOBAS

With you 100. A lot of lists got Jungle over Mickey. No haps. Jungle nice and all- respect due. But crank like Mickey? Negative. I got a R.E. video from a few years ago with Mickey crankin a monster solo. Style is endless. Flat out split the beat like nobody business.

  • Benny, Go-Go Mickey, Maniac, Mike Muse, Dave & Jungle Boogie, da Best EVER. This is Classic. R.I.P Lil Benny. All you youngins learn & know your history. Essence Legends & Rare Essence the best and the wickedest go-go band still after 35-36 years. Rare Essence still packs the house from wall to wall and always did. R. E. 4 Life

  • Mickey is the best conga player ever in go-go history without a shadow of a doubt. Slim be crankin like shit and couldn't nobody touch dude...He got his own song...If you don't believe me look at the Live at Capital Centre video when he played both congas and roller toms...The bama is nice..

  • @DCBOOBAS

There wouldn't be no Mickey with out Boggie. Mickey did turn out to be more skillful then Boggie, but Boggie was the Congo player that we all got the pocket style from. It's like trying to compare Mayweather with Sugar Ray. Sugar Ray is a legend that Mayweather might have studied from, but you can't compare them. That's why we say that Boggie is the best of all time, because he birth the style. Mickey took what Boogie had and took it to another level.

  • @trenillo Well spoken! Church right there!

  • they rocked this shit

  • Mickey and Jungle Boogie was crankin like shit!

  • Whats the date on this??? I heard Benny say Merry Christmas....

  • @sgs6330 I couldn't really tell young..I think Benny was talking about how to make the congos sound cause the sound man in the back of the club can make stuff sound real different when you play it.
