The corolla was a name you could be proud to own. There was never anything bad with it, and when compared to other cars the corolla would beat them. The auris is not that good.
At least in the UK you have a much more attractive design for the Auris (Matrix in the US) than we received. I've tried, but I cannot develop a real appreciation for the horrible styling of this hatchback. It's sad too, because I was excited when I saw the Auris and couldn't wait for it to arrive here albeit under a different name. What a disappointment. Toyota failed me! :-(
I love TOYOTA's, always have driven them, always will drive them, and im only 19!.
But for me this auris, was a decline when compared to the previous corolla.
The interior is very cheap, (although well assembled), but the corolla had class leading plastics and an outstanding interior fit and finish.
The corolla's 1.6 vvti was faster and more economical than the 1.6 dual vvt-i engine in the auris, (altigh the new v-matic) has made it faster and much more economical than the corollas)
The Auris is a fare bit bigger than the Yaris to compare them it would be like ( Auris - Focus) (Yaris -Fiesta) the one in the test looks ugly but try looking up a Auris SR180 its looks very nice has a 2.2 diesel engine and 180bhp - its not that fast 0 - 60 only 8 seconds I believe, but once rolling its as fast as any petrol hot hatch and give much better mpg,
I have driven a typr r - nearly bought a FN2I love pretty much all Honda performance cars the type r is a true hot hatch as aposed to a cruiser that the SR180 is, the SR180 will match it in the mid range 3 rd - 4th gear which is the gear most used to overtake and is also a comfy ride. the Sr180 you can get the power down just as well as any other car, only idiots wheel spin and race off the lights thinking they look cool while everyone else just thinks what a tosser!
the difference between a good and a bad car, is whether the passengers are safe or not, after the crash. Toyota with their modern GOA crash safety technology ensures passenger compartment to maintain its shape to keep the passengers unharmed.

Most of the time when 2 cars impact on the highway they aren't going 60 miles an hour. Most of the time they were at 60mph before they noticed they were about to crash, but most cars are slowed well below 40 before they actually impact each other.
If both cars are going at 40 miles per hour, then that means they should crash it at 80 mph, because it doubles. And what if the drivers don't realize that they are about to crash?

I hate Toyota Australia, the base version of Corolla only has 2 air bags! The 7 airbag upgrade is cheap but it should be included!

Toyota has good quality, like the VW Golf (look here at youtube for crash test and you will see ;o) ), but I like the VW much more, cause the design of Toyota just sucks. Every car looks like a car for women's shopping.

Some Corolla's are pretty risky. I had a relative get into a car accident in one of those at 50+ ( on head collision ) some lady drove into her lane. The drive broke his collar bone and the passenger fractured her spine...The lady in the other corolla. Pshh. I don't know. But both cars we're totaled. The whole entire from was gone.
Sure it is, but I haven't even seen the service garage for a year and a half ('98 corolla with 62000 miles / 100 000 km). Go and buy beautifully designed french or italian cars, then spend a few hours beside the road with a stalled vehicle, that simply stopped with a "general error"... :)

This car won't get 5stars in Australia. Dual airbags are standard side are optional on some models and curtain airbags are not availble. Aussie lives are worth less than Euro lives???. Shame on Toyota for selling 2nd rate shit heaps in Australia. And ugly ones too

Really, in New Zealand Dual front, side curtain and side torso and knee airbags are standard on the Corolla. They should be in OZ to because most of the Toyotas sold in NZ are made in Melbourne.

Actually the diesel engine is not fast at all.
No diesels are infact.
This is because the engine is turbocharged already.
take the 2.0 i-vtec in the CIVIC type -r.
That produces 200hp + and is normally aspirated.
Anyway what that T180 diesel is good for, is the torque it produces, but its no use when you cant get it all down on the road effectuively.
When you quick start a diesel car, you tend to get a lot of wheelspin.
Petrols are a perfect balance between the two

Auris is the new name Toyota is going to use -in some countries- for the Corolla hatchback. The saloon will always stay Corolla, ergo; Auris=Corolla.
The Yaris however, is a totally different car, it is smaller then the Auris/Corolla, and is also known as Toyota Vitz.

maybe the japanese cars are not good about design compare w/ others,but for me they are not too bad of design!!!...we're talking here about quality. &i beleive that japanese car are 1 of the best quality& tech. &the most important is you can buy them in a very reasonable price. not like other cars very EXPENSIVE.other companys are rubbers!!! you pay much becouse you pay also the big name of a brand. expecially the old famous companys!!! we have to use our "BRAINS"!!

Some Corolla's are pretty risky. I had a relative get into a car accident in one of those at 50+ ( on head collision ) some lady drove into her lane. The drive broke his collar bone and the passenger fractured her spine...The lady in the other corolla. Pshh. I don't know. But both cars we're totaled. The whole entire from was gone.

Sure it is, but I haven't even seen the service garage for a year and a half ('98 corolla with 62000 miles / 100 000 km). Go and buy beautifully designed french or italian cars, then spend a few hours beside the road with a stalled vehicle, that simply stopped with a "general error"... :)

Yeah...maybe this is true in north america...in europe and the rest of the world Lexus is just another car company... The "Lexus" cars are made for the american market, so and becuase of this they sell very well in north american...big engines in europe dont sell in big scale..

for exemple: Lexus by not having a diesel engine for the european market ( they just recently offer one) is failing to response a demand of the european market, witch is only almost 70% of the market share in premium cars...

toucego. yes i've already knew that, Lexus knew that, and Lexus is depending only on its hybrid technology for the time being. other hybrid-cars are on the way which do better than the Lexus's mpgs However, although diesel is a high demand in euro-market. Fossil fuel is not the future.

Lexus is starting to become popular in europe quite steadly. i wouldn't go dissin german cars and neither you should go dissin about lexus/japanese cars. i know they have certain potentials in certain area of the market in diffrnt respect. if you happen to go dissing people's taste/fav cars, otherwise u will leave me no choice. i am jus literatly fed up wiv people talking shit about other's fav cars.

toucego. B.S. Lexus is keeping its prestigous luxury premium market minimal in europe, you won't get much Lexus services around europe. Lexus is controlling profit gain+loss by keeping it small in europe, since its still yet to be popular over its german competitors. isn't all other cars just 'another car company'??

toucego. its also true even in europe, dont overlook that jus becoz Lexus in north america sells well, does not hide the fact that europe isnt telling much truth. this is what the europeon did say ''ask any europeon premium luxury automanufacturer which car company do they fear the most??''. yet there's always a problem with UK when it comes to luxury so called 'character, taste, sense', none-blandness' its the s-class is the real over-rated joke.

Unless you are driving like a complete moron to lose control of your car, ESP is uneccessary. Most have managed without it for years. It's a marketing gimmick which appeals to people who want their car to control them, not the other way around because they are hopeless drivers.
It's like the retard who must have ABS so that they can tailgate people on the motorways because they think they will stop in time should the car ahead have to brake suddenly.

The fact is most drivers out there have no idea how to control a spin or avoid other hazards safely, hence ESP and ABS...there is no doubt a safe, intelligent driver has little or no need for electronic aids but the vast majority of people on the roads (at least in my experience) found their licence in a cereal box...

You can be smart AND crash a car. Anyone can be driving responsibly but hit ice and lose control etc. ESP has been proven to reduce single SUV crashes by half, it's not a gimmick and it doesn't control cars, its an aid that only works in emergency situations.

This car won't get 5stars in Australia. Dual airbags are standard side are optional on some models and curtain airbags are not availble. Aussie lives are worth less than Euro lives???. Shame on Toyota for selling 2nd rate shit heaps in Australia. And ugly ones too

So ask your lame right-wing Federal Govt to strenghten safety regulations and impose all-round airbags as standard (or at least optional). Or, if you cannot do that, choose another make/model and notice Toyota you're disgruntled. Choice is what the 'free-market' is all about, after all....

Really, in New Zealand Dual front, side curtain and side torso and knee airbags are standard on the Corolla. They should be in OZ to because most of the Toyotas sold in NZ are made in Melbourne.
