I got to be honesst with you though these CPUs are transients until the DDR memory catches up to the speed of the processers. DDR3 memory running at 800/1066/1333 with Cas Latencies nearly double of the old DDR2 leads me to believe that this is just another mass media ploy by INTEL to convince customer that newer is better. If I were in the market I would wait until the new memory designs are released because this would mean that new motherboards would be required.

ok, i'm thinking about getting an i5-2500k or an i7-950, im mostly about maxed out gaming but I want to do some rendering in the future when i get the money! but the i7-2600 is very powerful and its basically the 2500k with hyperthreading. whats the transistors for and the gigatransfers n shit does then mean ruffly how fast it can transfer data or is it how many things it can process at once
I don't understand the memory speed of a i7 being 800 or 1066 Only? I have a i7 920 DO step and I use 12GB of OCZ3B2000C9lv6gk 2000 Mhz Ram at 8-8-8 timings and it works just fine. Maybe that is native ?
excuse me, i got a very big problem, i can't decide which laptop should i buy between dell xps 15 with i7 740qm and gt435m and asus g53jw with i5 460m and gtx460m. Please respond me. ps. i am looking for photoshop working, 3dmax, animtion, and gaming. Both laptops are at same price :( and i can't decide. Your advice would be very helpful! thanks
@ioncric imo, from what you have described, I would go with the i7 740qm system, because the i7 740qm is approx 40% faster than the i5 460m, but the gtx460m is approx 20% faster than the gt435m, so over all the i7 laptop will give you a better bang for your buck.
i got £500 max to spend on a new laptop i could not choose between i3 or i5 at the moment i stupidly bought 3 years ago a intel celeron aspire 3682 im wondering is the i3 the celron of today at the moment on my computer i have i tunes, norton, msn, spy bot and because of this it takes my laptop 10 minutes before i can use it will it be the same with the i3?
informative video. i7 is the way to go if ur looking at running multiple programs simultaneously. vid made it seem like i7 is "better." however, for gamers, the i7 hyperthreading "8 cores" is not necessary. cpu games dont require an advanced, partitioned, processor.. a simple single powerful processor would suffice for games bcuz ur cpu is only running one process (the game.) gamers should stock up more on memory and a beastly graphics card. but if u like multi-task computing, go for the i7.
@jsawicz I will assume you are referring to the i5-750 (2.6GHz) and the i7-720QM (1.6GHz)...in this case the i5 produces approximately 30% better benchmark results than the i7.
@benzkohlee this is something i am confused about also, when comparing these 2 processors on intel's website the i5 in this case simply has better specs except for one thing, hyperthreading. so which would be the better performing processor overall, would it be right to assume that multitasking would be faster on the i7 720qm simply due to hyperthreading or would the i5 750 still trounce it??
@jsawicz i5=gaming i7=multitasking, better is up to your needs. Does anyone actually listen to the whole video?! Is your biggest priority running cyrsis 2 at ultra high or runnings photoshop at the same time as illustrator and bridge?
@DawidHudziak from the tiny bit i know about it, vt-d is useful for client hypervisors...so unless you are serving up several applications to several clients from a shared master disk image, vt-d doesn't seem to provide noticeable performance/security enhancements...thus, from that point of view would regular or above average home users aka musicians, gamers, vm'ers...be noticeably helped by vt-d...I am not so sure...maybe if they are running their apps in esx or virtual server...overkill, no?
i cant really find a major difference with the i5 and the i7,they are both basically the same with a little bit of changes, can someone point out the major differences?
@catman1233 According to some cpu benchmarks, the i7-920 is around 25% faster than the i5-750, even though they are both running at the same speed. The major differences mentioned in the video account for the higher performance. Also the cpus use different motherboards. The motherboards for the i7 series are relatively more expensive. Check out my channel "knowbyte" for more tech videos. And if you like my style please subscribe. Thanks!
@SmashMX22 your comment seems sincere, so I will answer. I make videos like this to bring information out, because a lot of times we get so bogged down with boring info, we miss some key things. Please double check, Intel's CPU features are not consistent in the same family, the i5-750, which is what I talk about in this video, does not have hyper-threading. Thanks for watching, and commenting.
@benzkohlee correct, im guessing he saw the dual-core i5 which has hyperthreading, which basically brings it to 2 physical processors and 2 virtual. to whereas the quadcore i5's only have 4 physical, no virtual. shit, i cant wait til the i9 HEX-CORE processor :D
wow very informative, from what i got i can get a decent gaming computer for about $100 cheaper that's more energy efficient and that extra $ can go into a new terabyte HD and some more RAM. Thank you so much man, i really am a i5 man.
Yes the i7 can take 8 requests but that is only good if you need 8 requests. 4 requests seems to be enough most of the time. Hmm most pc games run fine with 3 or 4 Gb of ram. Therefore 16 is way more than you will need so paying more money for 24 Gb of ram is not practical or needed. Really funny video. I laughed a lot.
@KakimotoRift this system is usually seen on desktops...and for a desktop already you have to buy a monior and a keyboard causing it to increase the price...
im probablly gonna get i7, I multi-task a shit load, video edit, and play high performance games so Ill probablly benefit from having it, if i get i5, ill just be wanting to upgrade the whole time, lol.
hope all the socket 1366 lovers have a spare grand lying around when they want to upgrade to i9. i5 750 all the way baby. your hip pocket will love you for it.
thnx man!! made it clear as fucken water! it was funny as hell too! LOL you even made like a theme song at the end LMAO!
anyways im gonna go with i5 because the i7 only has more hyperthread because theyre virtual, not that its bad its just basically i5 is almost even with i7 and beats i7 in some features, even with the i5 thats more than enough for freakin gaming and using a load of applications. thnxs again!
dude you cleared everything up :), but i have a Question, about the Bandwidth core i5 have 24gigs and i7 have 25.6 gigs, whats about all of that when we only stuck with the normal 7200rpm hard drive, or even a normal flash drive + a board that supports 3gigs sata, we wont get anything from that Huge Bandwidth right?
Good quick basic info that can be built on from here. Thx for caring enough to impart this info to the rest of us. Your video editing alone deserves 5 thumbs up!!
If ur upgrading and you don't want to buy a new 1366 mobo 300$ for a good one, and 3 Gb of required DDR3 125$ ram THEN the 230$ i7 then just buy a Core 2 Quad extreme edition they should be decently cheap and only slightly slower then the i7 920 even though it's clocked way higher, but it's older.
bang for buck tri-channel is a big loser. hhahahha.but let those with size issues go ahead. bigger is better right???i7 must beat i5 right??? hahahahaah
I was a funny presentation, has its own advantages. On many areas the processor focus is lacking, example HT is not absolute must. Please read the Anandtech's review on the same processors, you would be stunned with the i5-750 performance. Again, it's the same with the higher GB transfer rates, 920 was outperformed by 750 in many quarters. Just read this more detailed and meaningful review (minus a video presentations), Google:
But computers are for gaming, and an i7 is going to get you maybe 1-2% more frames for $100 more, while you could get a better GPU instead.
An i7 is marginally better for gaming, bro, unless you're like friggin converting crap all day and making HD videos and using applications with threading for shitz and giggles.
@games2007 Good Comment, If you go to microcenter core i7 920 is about 200 dollars while Core i5 750 from Tigerdirect is at about 190 dollars, now you may be saying wow go for the i7! but if you switch sockets your going to be adding in another 200-300 dollars for a new mobo and Tri-Channel DDR3/2/whatever so Think about it if you're on a budget!
I can't believe how much i learn with this vid the weird part is that i felt like a child with the method use by the man but who cars!? Was great!! and fun, how about you ghetto's out there learn something from this vid, he was him self but keeping it smart and actually interesting for EVERY ONE!
I have one question, If I buy a HP pavilion HPE pc, 0.25C that contains i5 and 8gigs of ram or the HPE 0.35C which is i7 and 6 gigs of fram, can i buy more ram slots or what you call them and install them in my case, please reply :)
uh lol you could get a ram extender but that will set you back a fair bit and is kinda useless. If you are not gaming, or overclocking you machine, 4gb is enough. More than 8gb of ram is overkill (and a waste of money for most) for most people. If you want to see a big shift in performance, get yourself an ssd instead.
u made a really nice clip thx a lot for making it simple and easy for people to understand here the question i like to ask u coz i think ur a very right person to ask... i have asked this questing before too.. but none can give me proper answer... can you explain me like as u know ati 5870 can do like 2.7 teraflops per sec.. same way how fast can i7 can do? how fast it can calculate.. and how many i7 needed to match 2.7 teraflops.. and where should i see in chat i7 core calculation chat. help me
Thanks for subscribing, rating, and for this interesting question!!! imo your question is similar to asking "...if a grasshopper can hop x times/second, how many times/second can an elephant hop?..." in this example, gpu is the grasshopper and the elephant is the cpu. The grasshopper specializes in hopping, and the elephant can pull heavy weights, and niether does what the other does, well.
FLOPS measures floating point performance which any gpu is relatively better at than any cpu. Wikipedia had some info, if you do a search for "flops". According to wikipedia "...As of 2008, the fastest PC processors (quad-core) perform over 70 Giga FLOPS (Intel Core i7 965 XE) in double precision..." Hope that helps. :D
thx for that info so now i know i7 max it can do is like 140giga flops ... i asked u this question is because i saw in 2007 intel showed 80core chip that can do 1 teraflops so me always wonder whats todays i7 do... and intel said it come in a time frame of 5 years and dam 3 years already passed lol so wanted to see how far is a todays chip to get to 1 teraflops ... i think to equal 1teraflops need (8) i7 140giga x 8 = 1.1 teraflops..
its simple, afaik, turboboost only overclocks one core (it shuts off the other cores while one core is being overclocked), so it speeds up single-threaded applications that cannot use multiple cores. If you use lots of multi-threaded apps that can use multiple cores than go with i7-9xx else go with i5-7xx or i7-8xx for faster processing of single threaded apps.
According to intel's website, both the i5-750 and i7-920 were made using the 45nm process. Since they are both running at the same speed, one would think that overclocking would be similar. However, the TDP for the i5-750 is 95W, whereas for the i7-920 its 130W, meaning the i5 is running a lot cooler for the same speed, and thus, theoretically would be a better overclocker with the same fan/heatsink combo.
My goodness dude. You seem like you're right on the edge. You may want to see a "professional" Good info though. I went with the i7860 and a Gigabyte P55-UD4P motherboard.
LOL, what you will discover when you view my videos on other subjects, is that i use characters. fyi, my news and politics playlist is where you see/hear the real me without characters, acting, voices, costumes but even in that playlist sometimes i will not be able to resist character playing so be warned!!! :P
lol it depends on ur budget i5 750 is $80 cheaper then i7 920 but its same performance as i7 920 but without hypterthreading and also use less power so its efficient so it can last longer n it can outperform previous core 2 quads and phenom ii series
I read the specifications of the newer CPU's on Intel site (I5 2500 and I7 2600) and they both have 5GT/s and upto 32gb of ram support.

Thanks!

so i guess I7 is the best, but you didnt talk about Gamers so i'm not SURE if a I7 is better for the people who play alot of games like me thanks.
Greatsebb 1 year ago
It all boils down to what do you want to do with the CPU. I found out that the i5 is better if you want to build a gaming PC.

i5 has 2.5 ghz and its more then i7 has yet,but there is the cache wich is higher,in my opinion waiting till i7 price lowers.

the i5 does have hyper-threading it even says on the intel website.
SmashMX22 1 year ago
@SmashMX22 your comment seems sincere, so I will answer. I make videos like this to bring information out, because a lot of times we get so bogged down with boring info, we miss some key things. Please double check, Intel's CPU features are not consistent in the same family, the i5-750, which is what I talk about in this video, does not have hyper-threading. Thanks for watching, and commenting.
benzkohlee 1 year ago
@benzkohlee correct, im guessing he saw the dual-core i5 which has hyperthreading, which basically brings it to 2 physical processors and 2 virtual. to whereas the quadcore i5's only have 4 physical, no virtual. shit, i cant wait til the i9 HEX-CORE processor :D
Agaza89 1 year ago
wow very informative, from what i got i can get a decent gaming computer for about $100 cheaper that's more energy efficient and that extra $ can go into a new terabyte HD and some more RAM. Thank you so much man, i really am a i5 man.
treetheoak 1 year ago
Yes the i7 can take 8 requests but that is only good if you need 8 requests. 4 requests seems to be enough most of the time. Hmm most pc games run fine with 3 or 4 Gb of ram. Therefore 16 is way more than you will need so paying more money for 24 Gb of ram is not practical or needed. Really funny video. I laughed a lot.

Get the i7 860
Overclocking is capable of going from 3.8~4.0GHz+ with HT ON (Air Cooled)
OR~
HT OFF 4.0GHz ~ 4.2GHz+ (Air Cooled)
i7 requires less voltage to hit higher frequency compare to i5
i5 has no HT Capability
HT works best under Vista and Win7, both OSes are able to tell the differences between Physical Cores and Logical Cores.

thnx man!! made it clear as fucken water! it was funny as hell too!

If ur upgrading and you don't want to buy a new 1366 mobo 300$ for a good one, and 3 Gb of required DDR3 125$ ram THEN the 230$ i7 then just buy a Core 2 Quad extreme edition they should be decently cheap and only slightly slower then the i7 920 even though it's clocked way higher, but it's older.

AnandTech: Core i7 870 & i5 750
My vote => i5-750 :)

But computers are for gaming, and an i7 is going to get you maybe 1-2% more frames for $100 more, while you could get a better GPU instead.
An i7 is marginally better for gaming, bro, unless you're like friggin converting crap all day and making HD videos and using applications with threading for shitz and giggles.
games2007 2 years ago 2
@games2007 Good Comment, If you go to microcenter core i7 920 is about 200 dollars while Core i5 750 from Tigerdirect is at about 190 dollars, now you may be saying wow go for the i7! but if you switch sockets your going to be adding in another 200-300 dollars for a new mobo and Tri-Channel DDR3/2/whatever so Think about it if you're on a budget!

I have one question, If I buy a HP pavilion HPE pc, 0.25C that contains i5 and 8gigs of ram or the HPE 0.35C which is i7 and 6 gigs of fram, can i buy more ram slots or what you call them and install them in my case, please reply :)
Undergroundhiphoop 2 years ago
uh lol you could get a ram extender but that will set you back a fair bit and is kinda useless. If you are not gaming, or overclocking you machine, 4gb is enough. More than 8gb of ram is overkill (and a waste of money for most) for most people. If you want to see a big shift in performance, get yourself an ssd instead.

u made a really nice clip thx a lot for making it simple and easy for people to understand here the question i like to ask u coz i think ur a very right person to ask... i have asked this questing before too.. but none can give me proper answer... can you explain me like as u know ati 5870 can do like 2.7 teraflops per sec.. same way how fast can i7 can do? how fast it can calculate.. and how many i7 needed to match 2.7 teraflops.. and where should i see in chat i7 core calculation chat. help me
tomyloveu 2 years ago 2
Thanks for subscribing, rating, and for this interesting question!!! imo your question is similar to asking "...if a grasshopper can hop x times/second, how many times/second can an elephant hop?..." in this example, gpu is the grasshopper and the elephant is the cpu. The grasshopper specializes in hopping, and the elephant can pull heavy weights, and niether does what the other does, well.
benzkohlee 2 years ago
FLOPS measures floating point performance which any gpu is relatively better at than any cpu. Wikipedia had some info, if you do a search for "flops". According to wikipedia "...As of 2008, the fastest PC processors (quad-core) perform over 70 Giga FLOPS (Intel Core i7 965 XE) in double precision..." Hope that helps. :D
benzkohlee 2 years ago
thx for that info so now i know i7 max it can do is like 140giga flops ... i asked u this question is because i saw in 2007 intel showed 80core chip that can do 1 teraflops so me always wonder whats todays i7 do... and intel said it come in a time frame of 5 years and dam 3 years already passed lol so wanted to see how far is a todays chip to get to 1 teraflops ... i think to equal 1teraflops need (8) i7 140giga x 8 = 1.1 teraflops..

xnolifeboix 2 years ago
its simple, afaik, turboboost only overclocks one core (it shuts off the other cores while one core is being overclocked), so it speeds up single-threaded applications that cannot use multiple cores. If you use lots of multi-threaded apps that can use multiple cores than go with i7-9xx else go with i5-7xx or i7-8xx for faster processing of single threaded apps.
benzkohlee 2 years ago
I'm going to go with i7-8xx. Thanks for the help!
xnolifeboix 2 years ago
I heard that the i5 can turboboost better/faster than the i7. Is that true?

Thanks alot! Great movies! Does the i7 oc beter too?
raouldijksman 2 years ago 2
Thanks!!!
According to intel's website, both the i5-750 and i7-920 were made using the 45nm process. Since they are both running at the same speed, one would think that overclocking would be similar. However, the TDP for the i5-750 is 95W, whereas for the i7-920 its 130W, meaning the i5 is running a lot cooler for the same speed, and thus, theoretically would be a better overclocker with the same fan/heatsink combo.
benzkohlee 2 years ago
Thank you for your reply! mmm i see, thanks... i heared that the i5 overclocks less but like you said the i5 should be alot less warm!
raouldijksman 2 years ago
So the Turboboost is kinda like Forrest Gump deciding to run?
Hmmm I think the i7 is for me.
With hyperthreading it'll be alot more useful for old applications that support it.
(i currently have a 6 year old P4 with Hyperthreading)

lol it depends on ur budget i5 750 is $80 cheaper then i7 920 but its same performance as i7 920 but without hypterthreading and also use less power so its efficient so it can last longer n it can outperform previous core 2 quads and phenom ii series
