  • one of the best songs ever written about going through troubles as a kid

  • thank you John Green!

  • @TheRowaboat ... and of course thank you Mountain Goats!

  • Every time I listen to a song by The Mountain Goats it feels like I'm hearing music for the first time in my life. The intensity and emotion of every single one of their songs is just amazing. John Darnielle is an amazing song writer/lyricist who has changed the way I approach music.

  • Half Eatin Gallons Of Ice Cream In The Freezer, Fresh Fuel For The Sodium Flares!

  • Am I the only one who thought the last line was "I am a battling prawn"? I was kind of disappointed when I found out it wasn't.

  • It sounds like babbling frog, but I think he says "babbling crook". Just my opinion

  • @SNOWBORED11 babbling brook

  • but in the long tresseeeeeees of your hair

    I AM A BATTLING FROOOOOOOOOOG!

  • john said this was a song about a girl who had a 2 door white honda civic last time i saw him live and she was his getaway, gave the song an awesome meaning

  • I'd bet anything that if Moral Orel had been allowed to continue, this would've been used at some point, maybe for the finale.

  • @DonZabu I agree!

  • @DonZabu that show was how I found out about this band. I miss that show. It was one of the best.

  • @DonZabu

I'd like to think that, but it's almost too upbeat for how melancholy Moral Orel is...I remember at the concert Darnielle started this song with "This is a song about teenagers having sex." I dunno.....

It could work, but I'm having trouble picturing how it would work.

  • @DonZabu Orel and Christina. As teenagers. If they're going to do anything else with that show that's got to be it.

  • The way I imagine this song is that John is talking about how his girl friend was his only light in life, and he's deciding to hold onto that one spark or kill himself to save having to live with his step-father anymore.

  • Man, I thought it said, "I am babbling frog". Well, I was mentally battling it out between fraud and frog, but frog eventually won. I was certain it was babbling, but I just listened closer and I'm wrong. Babbling frog would have been cool.

(P.S. amazing album -- amazing is an understatement, but I don't want to devalue it with excessive description).

  • @philophos I thought the exact same thing...

  • SAS

  • Thank you John Green

  • "I write down good reasons to freeze to death."

    THIS SONG IS SO AMAZING!

  • i swear he says "i am a battling frog" as the last line of the lyrics.

  • @lewissayblack

don't get me wrong, this is a beatiful song, and "battling frog" doesn't make it worse. i really like hearing 'battling frog" though.

  • @lewissayblack

aaaaand reading the other comments, it seems other of you folkses hear what i hear.

good to know there are others.

  • I did a report on mountain goats in second grade, not "The Mountain Goats" but it has to count for something right.

  • @randomqueen247 I'm glad that you're a "Mountain Goats" (not mountain goats) fan, so I won't critique your grammar like I would in any other situation.

  • fucking brilliant

  • ;~~;

  • John Darnielle saves lives.

  • 0 dislikes, fuck yeah.

  • @shrrrriram make exact words, and with better grammer A+

  • lol I can't unhear it as "I am a battling prawn"

  • @Yoshimitsu4prez I used to think it was i am a battling frog lol.

  • @WEtranceLA i prefer battling frog :D hehehe

  • I am in love with him.......... for forever. I want to be cold

  • john darnielle - song writer of the century

  • A friend told me to listen to them, I was doubtful. So glad I listened, love them, this is real music.

  • 0 dislikes! =D!

  • how is justin beiber better then this? i mean what has music been degraded to...this is real music

  • Brilliant

  • their music is like a tragedy in itself; his voice will never be as beautiful as his lyrics (not that I don't enjoy it's uniqueness)

God do I love the mountain goats

  • @azjjjd It fits, and it has the right emotion. He sounds like a person, not some star singer, and I like that.

  • This song never fails to bring me to my knees. If there's a better way of saying "I love you" than saying "you make me free", I don't know it. JD stop ripping out my heart man, I only got one of'em.

  • I love this song, and hate it at the same time as it makes me realize i will never be as good of a songwriter.

Damn you mountain goats, i love you.

  • this song, or really this album, always manages to knock the wind out of me.

  • ...wow, so beautiful

  • Wow everyone on the comments seems to be feeling exactly the same as me about this song!! This so is beautiful, I want to listen to it over and over and it makes me feel better and worse!!

The Mountain Goats are really something special..

  • fucking beautiful.

  • Hah ^^ Love the mountain goats

  • I've had this song running through my head for the past 4 days ....

  • I keep listening to this song over and over. Its infectious.

I write down good reasons to freeze to death, in my spiral ring notebook.

But in the long tresses of your hair......I AM A BABBLING BROOK!

  • Omfg.. especially the dishes in the kitchen sink!!

    He's sooo awesome

damn right this got no dislike votes

If youre about to change it....

    I KNOW WHERE YOU LIVE

    XX

  • @MrGAtWork I think you jinxed it. There 1 dislike. Can you give me their address so I can find them and show them why even "Liking" this doesn't exemplify the (yes, I will use a word that isn't a word right now) amazingness of this song?

  • I'm kind of in love with this song..... It makes me feel better, yet somehow worse? Idk, I'm crazy : \

  • i know exactly what you mean! i guess i'm crazy too, but when i'm sad, i listen to sad songs to cheer me up. it works out for me. :D

  • @XcontemplatingropeX everything by the mountain goats makes me feel that way. like i want to kill myself, but at the same itme, i get a better more hopeful outlook on life. its absolutly insane. i have no idea how this happens

  • @XcontemplatingropeX

No, that's how The Mountain Goats songs are. They make you feel strange. They're great.

  • @XcontemplatingropeX nah... ur just human.

  • @XcontemplatingropeX No, we all feel that way...with any of the Mountain Goats' songs, actually. :)
