  • didn't get it ... if you wear a visibility jacket the train will spot you and slow down ? the way is not to pass with car when the red lights are ON !

  • Jeremy is making a deliberate joke about the High Visibility jacket because in the UK Health & Safety has gone mad, because folks have decided to follow the American trend of suing people/companies if they have an accident.

Top Gear is a TV show in the UK (which likes to smash stuff up occasionally) and has a large target audience of all ages.

Bottom line is it's better to get a point across with a joke attached. The Alternative could be just another 'boring advert' nobody really cares about.

  • why the hell remy wears 2 helmet? o.O

  • Trespassing on the railway costs GBP1,000!!! When I was a lad it was forty shillings. So that is five hundred times more!! Looks like the pubic is being ripped of again!

  • @alanheath The Pubic is being ripped off? Ouch...

  • @alanheath

Being ripped off? You shouldn't be on the railway anyway!! Don't be retarded and you don't get fined.

  • @jonoboo I think you have misunderstood what I wrote.

  • @alanheath It's "public", you misspelled (I think :D)

  • @alexapirot32 Whata mistake'a to make'a!!!!

  • always wear a high vis jacket!? More like don't drive out in front of high speed trains!

  • Did that snail die :( ?

  • Take a close look as the train is approaching and you can see it is being pushed by another locomotive, so it's basically the dead weight of the train hitting the car. Imagine how much more destructive that would be if the train hit the car while under power. In any competition there is no Loss column for the train - they always win.

  • @iceolated75

    is not.

  • I love the way that although it is taking the Mick, it still works. You see that train smash into the car and think... crap, not much chance of coming out of that with a smile on your face!

  • should of droped a marina on after haha

  • To those that don't understand the Hi-Vis thing, It is poking fun at the rediculous Health & Safety laws in the U.K. Some of which are over the top stupid! I HOPE THIS HELPS!

  • he is a bloody joker, always wear high visibility jacket, hahahahah. its obvious asking you NOT to cross when the are on

  • oh dear! the railway is destroyed! all that stone's are just gone!

  • two hard hats and a high visibility jacket, ultimate safety

  • So funny

  • Comment removed

  • which episode was this?

  • Always wear a high visibility jacket? Maybe always stop on red will work better.

  • @willghass You know that was a joke, right?

  • @xPyroxx No, I did not. Please tell me why.

  • @willghass Don't worry yourself. It's British Humour. You're exempt from needing to find it funny since you are from the USA.

  • @Ajhayter I doubt that but I'll take your word since we Americans can and will never understand your humor.

  • @willghass i understand british humor (or humour) perfectly...and i'm an american.

don't speak for me by saying "we americans" and making broad claims

  • @dmxwhat Then explain the joke here.

  • @willghass "we Americans[...]" no, you're just a moron

  • @hejjagedu I'm a moron once someone tells me what was so funny about this video.

  • @...

You're not a moron, it is just a humour that you're not into.

It is called irony. Saying something when you clearly mean something else. He is saying wear a hi-vis jacket when obviously what he is really showing is that you shouldn't jump the lights.

Part of it is a cultural thing. Here in the UK, there are regulations for everything, waaaaay too many because our last government was into 'big government'. This is mocking it because they say to wear hi-vis/safety goggles etc for EVERYTHING.

  • @944Nima so there are no cost effective less descrutive ways of doing this?

  • i'm more concerned about how much damage and the overall cost of this 4min operation. and for what purpose again?

  • @TCt83067695 The money was going to be wasted either way, if the government or BBC maybe both want to spend money to raise awareness, then considering all available options, this is a brilliant idea. Train damage was probably insignificant and track is probably disused or a purpose built one for testing.

I thought this was a perfect idea.

By the way, vehicles (Road, Rail) are crashed all the time for safety certification reasons, happens all the time all over the world.

  • @CFCPaddy the track I think was there already if it was built for that occasion they probably wouldnt have bothered to put in switch tracks and lights for the switch tracks

  • @TCt83067695

You're not really concerned. You just like complaining.

  • i love how the train has a warning about level crossings on the side :)

  • @SammyJim675 I had a hard time noticing myself, but look at the upper right, it's there. How anyone sees that to begin with is somewhat impressive - or just disturbing...

  • I love how it doesn't even move until the B-pillers touch.

  • "Its always an old lady.... In a fiesta"

  • omg !!!!

  • 41 people are women

  • this is why it there's so many delays

  • christ you'd have to clean the driver up with a mop

  • Jeremy should be knighted for the contributions to road safety :) lulz

  • Sir Robert Markson

  • The Class 31 OWNED the Espace.

Why the fuck would anyone go around the barriers? People who are that stupid pretty much deserve to die.

  • which season it is

  • I LOVE how he pictures the elders as adrenaline seeking junkies, and that you could save your life by wearing a high visibility jacket! :D

  • Er who the fuck wears a high visibility jacket when driving?

  • @YeefeiMr It's called a sense of humour mate...

  • age:

16-35= driving to fast and have no idea what they are doing, but still know the rouls.

35-60=very good drivers, know when they are able to stop the car, and where the can drive a little bit faster than te limit, in this age got the best drivers.

60-hell=dangorus at the road, they hear bad, they see bad, and somtimes they thing they owns the road, get the hell out of the way!

  • @rcbuggyracingya HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

  • @xxsuzaxx it was just a joke...

  • 3 wheel car + old man driving :D

  • i have now witnessed the rock plower(train ad-on)

  • i wonder what happened to the snail

  • The video got cut :( ,

the original ep showed 2 slow motion recordings .

But , i LOL-ed when i saw 'Sir Robert Markson'

  • Omg, I drove for 3 hours this morning, and came back home because I forgot to wear my high visibility jacket.

  • Thye should have used a caravan instead of the Espace

  • "THATS BAADDD" LOL

  • Surprised he didn't use a caravan or a Morris Marina...

  • i dnt get it it dosent matter if u wear a jacket or not u will still get killed wont yu

  • @xxsuzaxx That was the point, really, made humorously. It doesn't matter if you're in the world's safest car (or wear a high visibility jacket) - if you race a level crossing you might be killed anyway.

  • The Robin Reliant was undamaged! British cars built propperly in the good old days. Built to last.

  • that actually scared me

  • I've heard you like helmets, so I've put a helmet on your helmet!

  • Itl Buff out

  • 41 people don't wear a HIGH VISABILITY JACKET.

  • well what does wearing a vest have to do with passing red lights

  • Like if you saw the spider at 2:33

  • @adam4evarules Nice catch!

  • @2:44 Save the snail!!!

  • I hope the load of cheese inside the Espace is all right.

  • the class 31 loco didn't even have a scratch!

  • It's always an old lady...in a fiesta. xD jajajajaj

  • "If you drove like that on a public road you deserve to be called a maniac!" (wtf?)

  • @TheInflicted He mis-quoted a sketch from a BBC show called "Not the Nine O'clock News" from the 80's, the original quote, (by an ex copper making a tyre safety ad) is "If you drove like that on a public highway you deserve to be called a raving maniac" If you can find a copy of NTNOCN A Hedgehog Sandwich, It's on there, sketch titled Road Safety (I think) :o)

  • @rangieowner Heh. Never knew that. I always thought he was referencing himself in a humorously nonsensical way since I had heard him use the line before in a more appropriate context. Your explanation is interesting, since here in the US our exposure to BBC tv is mostly limited to Monty Python, Absolutely Fabulous, and this.

  • @TheInflicted Also the ex-cop i refer to, I believe is called Sir Robert Markson, as Clarkson is titled in this sketch, so there is a link there aswell!

  • In Soviet Russia, the train stops to let you cross!!

  • @drewtheway Shut up

  • @drewtheway In Soviet Russia, You stop to let trains cross, or your dead! Thats the worst Soviet Russia joke I have ever heard, grade crossing safety is NOT a laughing matter

  • 3:12 THAT'S TOAST!!!

Perfect thing to shout while witnessing a horrendous accident.

  • LoL! He has a double jacket, and he put on a double helmet. Oh the Jezza, always mad.

  • @kregzdeM3 Rubbish. Twice the equipment = twice the safety!

  • lol driving on the wrong side of the motorway

    well that is hilarious

  • why is there two different trains in the video? look here.... 2:59

  • @DogmeatFilms : Its one engine pushing another. The first engine for obvious reasons, has no driver and is most likely empty on fuel, so if it ended up derailing, nobody would be hurt. The second engine got it to speed and then hit the brakes allowing that to continue and mash the car...

  • @ROB38915003 Though there is empty space between them, did they photoshop out railcars or something? I understand what your saying but they are far apart in the video.

  • @DogmeatFilms did you read what he told you? the one pushing it used those magic things called brakes >.> ykno those things that slow you down and then cause you to stop.. so of course there going to be a bloody space between them

  • @DjMcLeod2k9 ahhhhh - i get it now. thanks. ;)

  • Thank You Sir Robert Markson

  • Is he wearing a safety jacket over a safety jacket? XD

  • The hard hat on hard hat had me rolling.

  • crashtest FAIL :P

  • i want that red-blue-red-blue paint

  • lol Americans dont understand sarcasm do they

  • @c0n0ruw1ls0n No, we don't get it at all.

    Ha....haha....get it? This is sarcastic

  • @c0n0ruw1ls0n Or they just have a bad sense of humour haha

  • that car got fucked!

  • that's what I like about british cars - the driver is on the side closer to the train.

just a week ago a driver here decided his prayers are enough to save him from crashing a train.

and they did, but the other 7 people that were in the car with him - died.

  • @kidi1232 Now wouldn't that depend on which way you and the train are going.

  • @diamine665 sorry, i wrote that at 4 AM, after reading an article about another case where the only man who survived the accident was the one who caused it.

then i saw the "driver" died here and for some reason i thought it was because it's in the UK.

i they should make airbags that doesn't open if you caused the accident.

  • slow motion is awesome!!!

  • i wonder how much was the cost of repairs to the level crossing after fillming this.

  • Ricers suck

  • No,always never park on the the Railroad tracks. The jacket wouldn't do shit to save your ass.

  • @goku1940

Have you never heard of sarcasm ?

  • can anyone say fatality? lol

  • I hope the snail made it.

  • @serg472

lol this is the thing that bugs me too

did it or did it not

  • I think weve all learnt a valuable lesson here.... uh i think

  • @JackOSpades91 never leave unmarked food in the fridge? Make sure you're car isn't a dog-leg first transmission before slamming it into the upper right slot to drive? Don't play darts with toddlers? Tactical cooking is not a professional sport? Or is it never to forget to charge your cellphone?

  • Jeremy, you are the number one!!!!!!!!

  • hahaha onli jeremy can make something so serious 'funny'

  • THATS TOASTED!

  • bloody old people

  • Do all crossings in Great Britain make such noises?

  • @JimiPain If you mean the sirens then yeah

  • @JimiPain yes.

  • i don't get the safety jacket part? ok, let's say i have it on train hits me.. I'm safe now?

  • @djtoontk please tell me your jokin'

  • @djtoontk its a joke..

  • @djtoontk its called sarcasm

  • @djtoontk yes, it will make you completely safe, didn't you watch the video?

  • @djtoontk sarcasm

  • I was thinking i'd be amused but i was actually shocked,

obviously still amused but non the less, what the fuck :|

  • Jeremy, you done it again, you fucking wrecked a Renault Espáse.

  • LEGEND!

  • This was IMPRESSIVE!

  • well this is why trains dont catch you, they get a bit to close for your personal space =P

  • Snail got owned...

  • FIRST BLOOD

  • @inuysha360 Loser

  • Is this suppose to be a spoof.? lol

  • @ZmfKtv Yes

  • why do you need a high visibility jacket

  • @germino777

So that emergency vehicles can find all of you in time to put you back together

  • one word... PWNED

  • "he wasn't even wearing a high visibility jacket" the car is orange enough maybe?

  • @JeeDee66 Sarcasm :/

  • Comment removed

  • @JeeDee66 You didn't have to say that about Justin Bieber. He's much more talented than you are.

  • @RonMailbox do I care? NO he is a fucking fag now go cry to mom

  • @JeeDee66 I'm 21, and my mother's dead thank you very much.

  • @RonMailbox Bieber's an idiot who doesn't even know what "Germany" is

  • @duncyarnio Talent doesn't mean intelligence.

  • How can you give Top Gear a thumbs down?

  • Thats one way to catch a train.

  • Comment removed

  • SAVE THE SNAIL!!!!!!

  • Run Mr. Snail! Run!

  • At 4:35, does anyone else think that it looks like a small black child is looking out of the car car's window???

  • #1.16 before the reliant gets trashed, lights are not flashing, he should get compensation!

  • These idiots think that it is fun to jump a train light when a train is coming.

  • 39 people are old blokes that try to beat trains in crossings.

  • "Between 2003 and 2004, 33 people in Britain were killed in accidents at level crossings. Half of those were suicides. The rest were split evenly between motorists and pedestrians.

Some level crossings have no barriers, no lights and no audible warnings! At a minimum, there should at least be a "Give Way" sign"

    from safermotoring website

It looks like the duffer in the reliant found a crossing with lights but no barrier.

  • Now thats a good crash! Nice one TG. Anyone know where it was done cos the track is going to need a shed pile of work! Imagine being a train driver and turning up one morning and your boss says' we want you to crash into a car at 70mph, you up for it?'

Thats a good day at work.

  • two hard hats suit you jezza xD

  • What gets me is how much the car actually deforms before it even starts moving.

  • With it being top gear I expected the car to be on the wrong side of the track.

  • Must remember high visibility jacket, high visibility jacket... ok

  • "THINK Always ware a High Visibility Jacket.............. If you want the Police to Find your Body"

  • "Sir Robert Markson" lol!

  • they're called safety vests for a reason, they protect you from everything, including trains.

  • NO!!! Jermey do you have no respect for my pet snail at 2:44

  • Ppl in WTC should wear HV jacket's

  • i'll actually agree old people to me are way more likely to have an accident all of my mates drive normal not crazy. But there's been loads of accidents involving old people down our old street

  • heres an idea jeremy you'll like this i just thought of this how about having full length barriers instead of just having half barriers, i mean seriously are they that stupid!

  • @jamiehasnomercy True, but whats more retarded is going around the outside, seriously

  • Imagine how much worse it would've been if the Espace got hit by an American train!! You know, an actual sized locomotive.
