That was Albarn's goal, to make great pop music, so not very unique, but in the same way, NIN is no more unique, there were many metal/industrial techno bands before Trent came along and many after. Trent is not even unique in his appearance, while Gorillaz is, for the most part, thanks to Hewlett. So, for the aspect of appearance alone I would say Gorillaz wins... Both are fucking awesome.
