Want to know how I cured my fear of spiders? Magic Mushrooms. Honestly, took some magic mushrooms one time, saw some huge house spiders in my house (real ones, not hallucinations) and instead of being scared, I was fascinated by them. Not been scared since. True story.
To reiterate what teedonster said about a year ago: it's not the big hairy ones. It's the little bitty ones with the tiny spindly legs that run at lightspeed that scare the living fuck out of me. Something about the legs weirds me the fuck out. Also because they are hard to keep track of. I'm a control freak, so not being able to catch them when they run messes with me, tarantulas can go fast, but not so terribly fast as I lose sight of them.

Arachnophobia is a good thing. In prehistoric times, those that weren't afraid of spiders (or snakes, heights, etc.) would die and thus wouldn't reproduce.
It is not happening by magic, it is about facing your fear (with a little help) and overcome it.
It is not enough to just touch a spider, the point is to get someone to feel less fear and in control over the situation. That can be done by repeating the same thing over and over until your body starts to relax. So I both talk to give information but also to let my voice be a distraction from the fear. I hope you can overcome yours.

@darkusmaster96 No they don't. The most effective way is to get the kind of therapy where you are exposed to the things you are afraid. It will be very scary in the start but over time with the help of the therapist you will learn the body to relax. When the body don't scream that you are about to die anymore it gets easier to get the mind to listen.
I once saw a spider on my face when I woke up, so i screamed, and fell down two flights of stairs and hit my face on a chair leg. Damn spider. It had already bitten me. So I had a horrific bump on my upper lip that was horribly swollen.
I would like to think that those creepy spiders arent around the city wher I live, the ones that can kill you only live in other countries, might be wrong excuse my ignorancem I just hate them so much I wish they didnt exist....

I know it can be difficult, but it is possible to do something about it if you met the right people or are strong enough to do some self-theraphy. Wish I could help.
@Petterkopp I panic and hyperventilate when I see spiders, I have the worse fear on earth yet I can hold a tarantula just not the goliath or the ones from your house , my life has been ruined by this damn phobia, I'll run through a burning house or pull a person out of a river thats drowning, but I will NOT remove a spider, it seems to good to be true that one can be cured of this when you have it severe as i do :(
@Philminator The start to get rid of any phobia is when you stop running from it and are willing to face it. remember you do not have to do it alone. I am sure there must be capable psychologists nearby that can offer you help. It is quite common for those with fear of spiders that they are more scared of the small ones, i guess it has to do with unpredictability. To face ones fear is the bravest thing anyone can do. I hope you can overcome it. Best of luck!
@Philminator@Petterkopp I agree with you completly. A phobia as severe as "Philminator" must be over come by facing the fear. You say you can hold a Tarantula that is where you should start a Tarantula could be thought as the same and a normal house spider. A spider is just as afraid of you as you are to if not more. Yeah it makes me feel silly, especially because my 6 year old niece likes them, and im nearly 23 and i cry when i see one! If i see even a small one in my house, and even if someone puts it outside, im still convinced its in the house.
I used to be really scared of spiders but despite that I ended up adopting a rose hair tarantula, I found the experience of observing my pet rock to be quite therapeutic and I hold it on occasion without incident. T's are awesome ^_^
The fuel for arachnophobia is the expectation of spiders as vicious, savage, violent animals. Quite the contrary, tarantulas in particular can be very gentle, beautiful, docile animals. Approach the subject with interest, do not delude yourself into believing they are as terrible as the films make them out to be! They are respectable amazing creatures!

Phobias are usually triggered by some kind of experience, either by yourself or something you pick up from your surroundings. And
Philliesboy16 I would recommend you to seek professional help, either a psychologists that deals with phobias or find someone who can help you with some kind of therapy regarding spiders. I hope you can find help. All I can say is that the spiders did not attack you even though you might have found them on you. It's common to project sinister intentions to spiders.

There is a different between arachnophobia and just a fear of spiders. A phobia is an extreme fear - you wouldn't even go into the same room as a spider, and I guess that would mean you were constantly on the look out for them. If you are not bothered by them by it is only when you see one that it concerns you, it is just a fear.

enducation is key. only a handful of spider r actually deadly. just keep watching videos of spiders and keep in mind they actually help us around the house by eating all kinds of insects. they;re the best form of pest control.

I was really really afraid of spider until I got one for myself a few years ago(a Grammostola Rosea), now on sunday, I'm getting a Aphonopelma chalcodes and a Theraphosa Blondi.
I fear most insects, really. But I can maintain my cool as long as they're not too fast, and most importantly, DON'T JUMP. If they can jump, it's game over, I'm gone. That's why when my house was infested with camel crickets for a few months, it was quite displeasing to say the least. Not even the cute black crickets, had to be the nasty, spindly, creepy-ass ones.
I must have it bad cause i would have flipped out when he pulled it out of enclosure... and to have him have that thing in his hands next to me I would have completely lost it!!!!

The whole reason why her mom wanted treatment was because she did not want her daughter to become as afraid of spiders as herself.
And I can tell you that she is no longer afraid of spiders the same way she used to be and she is now putting the spiders outside by herself instead of killing them or running away.

The non-arachnid ones don't, but drop for drop the arachnid daddy long legs (2 body segments) have the most poisonous bite of any spider. Problem is, they have TINY fangs, don't usually go through the skin, but if it does...you're in bad shape.
I like spiders, they are amazing creatures. I like this video but you don't cure arachnophobia that easy. My sister is scared to death of spiders. She gets totally hysterical and fell from the stairs once running away after seeing a spider.
It's not a spider's bite that scares me the most, it's the fact that some of them have long legs...fishing spiders scare me a lot more than tarantulas do.

The whole idea is to talk to you until you agree on holding it. Gradually getting closer and close to the point where you can face your fear.
I would never dream about even trying to put it on anyone who did not want to hold it. That would defeat the purpose.

There is a different between arachnophobia and just a fear of spiders. A phobia is an extreme fear - you wouldn't even go into the same room as a spider, and I guess that would mean you were constantly on the look out for them. If you are not bothered by them by it is only when you see one that it concerns you, it is just a fear.

enducation is key. only a handful of spider r actually deadly. just keep watching videos of spiders and keep in mind they actually help us around the house by eating all kinds of insects. they;re the best form of pest control.

Yes, i know, but i can't stop thinking, when i get in a room and i find a spider near, i think it'll make a super ninja jump to my head to hurt me!! I know it sound stupid maybe! but i do believe spiders want to do something to me!!

THAT GIANT SPIDER AT 3:10 IS MOVING! :O and I thought it was cool when I seen the spider go across the mom and daughter's hands. Seeing them smiling so calmly made me want to try and and I've had arachnophobia for as long as I can remember :p

A tarantula is a very good pet, as long as you don´t need a pet to hug.
You can handle most of them, but the tarantula is happier if left alone.

Arachnophobia is fucking shit.
Today, when I was at school, in the middle of classroom there was a spider climbing on the net. I moved my chair far from this spider as much as possible and I was shaking during the all lesson. All my classmates were laughing to me.

Nobody could be as bad as i am. if i see a spider, no matter what the size. i would run and run and cry. its pretty embarrassing because people just look and laugh at me. Yes i have stopped this video, i cant look at them or i will run and cry. i am a 16 year old and shit scared of spiders.

its horrible. i'm 24 and i am scared of spiders. i can't even look at pictures. people arround me do not laugh but they mostly get angry and do not understand how can i be scared. in my country its to expensive to go to a doctor and i would give anithing to end my phobia.

The only reason why I hate spiders is because when I was 8, me, my parents, and my sister were camping. I go up this rock, and Im chased back down by atleast 150 Pink, skinny spiders. Dx I have nightnmares about that now. :(

I have the same problem when I was in Croatia when i was 7-8 years old I climbed up on a quite high mountain and my mother was doing me pictures and suddenly i could feel something on my leg and there were something like 7 big spiders on my leg I mean not so big but it was freaking SCARY! and it appeared there was a spider nest and now every time I see a bigger than a normal spider like for example tarantula i quickly stop the video and close my eyes I am scared of them =(

I was really really afraid of spider until I got one for myself a few years ago(a Grammostola Rosea), now on sunday, I'm getting a Aphonopelma chalcodes and a Theraphosa Blondi.

I don´t like spiders and mostly every insects... I don´t have phobia... I can see and touch a spider but I think they´re kinda disgusting :P
At least here in Portugal the spiders are all sooo tiny :)

I fear most insects, really. But I can maintain my cool as long as they're not too fast, and most importantly, DON'T JUMP. If they can jump, it's game over, I'm gone. That's why when my house was infested with camel crickets for a few months, it was quite displeasing to say the least. Not even the cute black crickets, had to be the nasty, spindly, creepy-ass ones.

Because she trusted me when I told her it was nothing to be afraid of.
The whole reason why her mom wanted treatment was because she did not want her daughter to become as afraid of spiders as herself.
And I can tell you that she is no longer afraid of spiders the same way she used to be and she is now putting the spiders outside by herself instead of killing them or running away.

The non-arachnid ones don't, but drop for drop the arachnid daddy long legs (2 body segments) have the most poisonous bite of any spider. Problem is, they have TINY fangs, don't usually go through the skin, but if it does...you're in bad shape.

I like spiders, they are amazing creatures. I like this video but you don't cure arachnophobia that easy. My sister is scared to death of spiders. She gets totally hysterical and fell from the stairs once running away after seeing a spider.

It's not a spider's bite that scares me the most, it's the fact that some of them have long legs...fishing spiders scare me a lot more than tarantulas do.
