@EdVidz I did while back.Thank God I wasn't allergic, bc I was covered in hornets. And that night I had a fever of 100 or more. My face was so swallowne that noone recognized me for a while.
I am removing a giant willow at my house right now. bigger than this one. Fucking smells like piss when you cut them. Nice video guys, And like your attitude with all the reply's too. keep up the good work.
crane cuts are allways tough. try cutting 2/3 of the way through and then pull your saw out and finish the cut on the other side. it help to keep the piece of wood from swining away which could shock load the crane. cranes are meant to handle static loads. other then that good job!
@starstarstar42 sorry 2 inform ya that treebeard died & there was no more entings as the ents lost entwifes. they were in the forests of buckland but merry n pip'n were 2 dumb 2 realize, so now its open season. i love the smell of 2stroke in the morning. lol
Allmark! Nice work. I really like the helmet cam...cool video. I've done a lot of climbing, but refuse to ride the ball, won't do it. Too much room for error, I don't trust equipment enough, as everything is built to break. Keep up the great work! I'm from Ohio, don't hold it against me!
some people may use it for that, i personally have only done a few crane removals we use more rigging. I have done a few and the crane always used a bell n bead choker. the cable was about 2 inches thick. I imagine it could easily skid logs on a winch
The largest I have done is a Coniferous Douglas Fir probably 130 feet tall with a crane.
My largest climb from the ground was a douglas fir in a park, 210 feet tall about 8 feet at the butt. i took a 12 foot top and chunked, fell 120 foot log
allmark tree very nice work and nice saws they seemed to be fairly sharp. i found it all to be quite straight forward crane work. i normally cut straight through to push logs off, but when working with cranes i am more use to using snap cuts. I use a bell & bead choker. if you are familiar with bell and bead choke it above your head and climb down. start the snap cut on other side of tree from yourself. come in on your side until they almost meet, climb down and crane can snap the shit safely
@EvenShadier Snap cut is the way to go absolutely...but cutting that much wood with a 3120, it is much easier to only do one cut than wear yourself out doing the two cuts
@PERPARSON LOL but stihl is such junk.I never seen one that was worth anything.Jonsered,Husky,Sachs Dolmar to name a couple that are better than stihls.
well i guess you know more than i do.....greetings from chainsaw mechanic in Europe... first check the power to weight ratio of 3120xp and ms880 than reply.....sachs dolmar don't exist anymore....its just dolmar or makita only different colors
@PERPARSON Still don't make stihl worth anything.I look at dependability over power to weight.
I work on them too,not professionally but I worked on a whole lot of saws. And a Jonsered 2095 can outcut a 3120 with the right tuner and sharpening. If I remember right it's also lighter than either the 3120 or 088.Had my 670 outcutting a 281 both with 2' bars in a 27-28" red oak log,and wasn't all to far behind the 288's.The 281 owners hated me at work. lmao
@xst276 I may be and I may not be,I know what it'll do tho....wanna line up your or a buddies 281. Oh wait your prob not even done sucking mommies titty for meals let alone know anything bout what saws are capable of.
@xst276 Bring on any 044 or 046 you may have, probably borrow, Buckwheat and my 670 even tho it is now going on 16yrs old and will out cut it any day.I'd even put a new saw up for a wager, are you willing? You have to leave mommy at home tho, unless she likes taking her teeth out. lol
@xst276 Well when you put in almost 1/2 of your life living in the forest with a tree company contracting for power companies and logging for quite awhile let me know lol
Im writing this comment to inform all climbers including the one in this video. When craining a tree it is very important to DUCK! Thats right, this guy could have been killed. When the section boke free it lifted and swung. He was very lucky it did not take his head off. To avoid being severely hurt or killed stay under and behind your cut.
Behind as much as possible. you did fine, all i could see in this video was you were standing a litle high(my opinion). Im glad to hear your climbing after your injury. my shoulders kill me when i climb with my STHIL 066. i step or duck down before i finish the cut. Where are you from. Im in Big Bear Ca.
I'm just happy to see two hands on your saw. Granted with the size you'd have to have two hands. Its scary to see how many people are making one handed cuts IN Trees.
FWIW I think Stihls tend to be better balanced when getting up into the larger saws.
Hi Andrew, I usually muscle the saw up for overhead cuts, but avoid them in gneneral. Is there a vid that shows the technique you are talking about?? Thanks, Vic.
At beginning of vid the guy has a hell of a problem getting the saw up to cutting height. Why is he cutting above chest-height, as against current best practice in UK - he'll lose his head soon. Get higher on your spikes mate and learn how to make a step cut when using a crane.
OK fair point. Good job by the way...sorry being over critical. You're doing a lot better than the vast majority of arborists. That's a fair sized buttress the crane is lifting. Hope the arm is getting better!
I have ran both. Fell timber professionally for 12 years. My stock 088 stihl has more low and high end torque than my 3120 husqvarna. Also have used numerous 066 stihl's, and numerous huskies,(455 rancher, 371, 288, 394), and have always found both brands to be very competetive, although I beleive that stihl invests more time in engineering their chainsaws, especially their "pro" saws.
good god! 090's are ungodly to even fall timber from the ground with. and as for a 660 going against the 3120 i dunno. i run a 42" bar on my 288 and its got more than enough torque but the 660's got the chain speed hands down
hahahaha numpties: british for idiots. i run a logging opreration for a scotsman. he calls me numpty, i call him a daft wanker. that is a great video. cranes sure make life easier than roping them down by hand
i cut down a tree in my yard resently about twice the size cut and split it got about 6 cords from it

DirTyOhGee 2 years ago
@DirTyOhGee Not to be smart, but if you need to ask stick to a safety chain.
Yes it does as does a chipper chain compared to a chisel chain. Only to name a couple types of chains.
