My iphone app wont be suitable for anything less than the 3GS it seems. I've tested it on the iphone 4 which should have about the same graphics performance as the 3GS I assumed? It's only barely good enough for the iphone 4. I suppose in updates I'll have to include very reduced detail models to make it suitable for older models.

This is a great test, don't bother what everyone else is saying. OpenGL ES 2.0 along with the better hardware shows a very noticeable performance difference. I play a ton of games on my 3G and the framerates keep letting me down and taking more than just a little bit away from the experience. I guess I need to upgrade my 3G damn.

Thats the reason why the 3gs is still so pricy on ebay.

But then the 4G should be even better than this... The wait is killing me... :)

apple isnt forcing you to upgrade. the app store has over 140000 apps, and less than 100 apps require the iPod touch 3rd Gen or the 3GS. so about 139900 will work on any iPod. Out of those 139900, about 80% are enhanced for the 3Gs and iPod touch 3rd Gen, while still beig compatible with the other iPods and iPhones.

Apple isnt forcing you to upgrade.

Look at it from the other side. Samsung makes money from this and Apple get hardware. Samsung in turn got designs from ARM, Imagination Technologies, etc. to build this SoC. Just like with this relation between Apple and Samsung.

The iPhone 3G has a 620 but it's underclocked to 412 mhz.

The iPhone 3GS has the amazing ARM Cortex-A8 which is actually capable of running up to 1 ghz. but is underclocked to 600 mhz.

The second generation iPod touch is provided with a 620 mhz processor aswell, but it was clocked down to 533 mhz.

You're mistaken. If this guy releases this, run it on your iPhone 3G and I will guarantee you that it will be similar to that video. The 3G S being smoother by alot is not a suprise. The 3G S has a much more powerful hardware graphics accelerator and CPU compared to the 3G.
