The OBX is just about my favourite analogue synth of all time too, but the hard thing is finding one! This is why people go for the emulated versions -- the real thing is expensive and difficult to find.
this is the real thing .. no shitty plugin that anyone can take of the internet.
think of all the parts and circuitry that this machine has affected by tempature and moist..it's just amazing. i have deeply respect for such machines. if you save up money and buy such a machine it becomes a part of your life. you can only have deep respect if you look under the hood and see all those cards and wires.. amazing analog!
@devmiles It sounds amazing but there is no denying that the SonicProjects plugin is an amazing achievement too, you cannot call that a shitty plugin. Considering how close this synth is to the Jupiter 8 textures I don't see why there isn't a plugin in the same calibre yet as it would sell like hotcakes.
Eddie has said he used an obxa in the studio for 1984. And the split for ill wait is a xa. I saw him live and it was an xa but another time it was a ob8. The best use of the obx is the intro drone on Queens game tour. Check out Rock montreal.
No, 1984 and Jump were played on an OB-X. Eddie toured with the OB-Xa for reliability reasons. I own both and there is NO mistaking it. I also happen to know this as fact. Just wanted to clear that up.
old but great! i love retro synth sounds ;) hmmm ... check some KIND of tribute music (via YouTube) called Vz Vintage Project (solo project from Sweden) this is a some kind of space/synthpop music
Muss man ausprobieren.
Oberheim OB-X is amazing. killing joke used it in a song called "bloodsport". the ending part of that song is just pure bliss. it OBX is being strangled. lol
I wonder if this was used on Visage songs?

I have loved this as well as the OB8 and OBXa ever since hearing Lyle Mays using one with Pat Metheny and of course VH's "Jump". Awesome fat synth!!!

good luck
I searched over 3 years for my OBX
retrosound72 1 year ago
@DJPeteJames
The sound of the OB-8 is more clean, thinner and the envelopes are not so punchy.
the OB-X is more wild and the sound is very fat like the SEM.
I like the OBX much more.
retrosound72 1 year ago
@DJPeteJames
the OB-X is discrete like the SEM , the OB-8 is full Curtis Chip based
retrosound72 1 year ago
@DJPeteJames
both synths are fantastic but the sound is very different.
the OBX is very rare but the OB-8 you can find sometimes on ebay

Thanks for showing off the filter with those sweeps and modulations. I can't help hearing similarities to the Andromeda's SEM filter.
OB-X is one of the smoothest and definately the sexiest sounding polysynth.
samplethesilence 2 years ago 15
Amazing sound ! I have the OBXa and this one sounds much rounder/warmer. The OBXa is a bit too gritty IMO.

I have also read in some synth forums: OB-X is used in the Jump studio version but is this really true?

This comment has received too many negative votes show
Jump was done on a MKS-70 (super Jupiter 10)

Thanks!

the OP-X is a great soft-synth ( for me the best) but not compared with the real OB
thx
prinzessinpauline 2 years ago 2
Oh yeah! It's a good clone of the real thing, but it's missing that "sound" (the warm analog).
Gregsynth 2 years ago 3
