  • I wonder if this was used on Visage songs?

  • I have loved this as well as the OB8 and OBXa ever since hearing Lyle Mays using one with Pat Metheny and of course VH's "Jump". Awesome fat synth!!!

  • 0:19 Tom Sawyer intro

    1:56 The Camera Eye apreggiator

  • oh for the guy that wants to trade his $300 akai ax 73 for the obx !! good luck !! they go for over 3000 to maybe 5000.....

  • @alegriamusic

agree with you 3000-5000 in good condition.

  • I truly love this synth !!! i got one this year and its a beast !!! pads are so cool ...hard to find but worth the money !!!

  • @alegriamusic

    yes very rare!

  • I own an AKAI AX73 in great condition and I want to trade it with an OB-X. I live in Greece.

  • that is a beautiful sound wish i could find one :(

  • The OBX is just about my favourite analogue synth of all time too, but the hard thing is finding one! This is why people go for the emulated versions -- the real thing is expensive and difficult to find.

  • this is the real thing .. no shitty plugin that anyone can take of the internet.

think of all the parts and circuitry that this machine has affected by tempature and moist..it's just amazing. i have deeply respect for such machines. if you save up money and buy such a machine it becomes a part of your life. you can only have deep respect if you look under the hood and see all those cards and wires.. amazing analog!

  • @devmiles

    :))

  • @devmiles

    yes

  • @devmiles It sounds amazing but there is no denying that the SonicProjects plugin is an amazing achievement too, you cannot call that a shitty plugin. Considering how close this synth is to the Jupiter 8 textures I don't see why there isn't a plugin in the same calibre yet as it would sell like hotcakes.

  • Holy crap this is from '79? Didn't know those old synths could sound that awesome! Know any bands that used this back then?

  • @SRMoore1178

Rush (SubDivisions, Tom Sawyer), Queen (The Game), Styx, Ultravox, Tangerine Dream, van Halen, Japan, Killing Joke, Nena....

  • test i found it on internet

  • @DJPeteJames

    good luck

I searched over 3 years for my OBX

  • @DJPeteJames

The sound of the OB-8 is more clean, thinner and the envelopes are not so punchy.

the OB-X is more wild and the sound is very fat like the SEM.

I like the OBX much more.

  • @DJPeteJames

the OB-X is discrete like the SEM , the OB-8 is full Curtis Chip based

  • @DJPeteJames

both synths are fantastic but the sound is very different.

the OBX is very rare but the OB-8 you can find sometimes on ebay

  • Eddie has said he used an obxa in the studio for 1984. And the split for ill wait is a xa. I saw him live and it was an xa but another time it was a ob8. The best use of the obx is the intro drone on Queens game tour. Check out Rock montreal.

  • good sound box

  • outstanding!

  • friend, plz replace the second part :D - fantastic sounds!!

  • the bass sounds like the moog...

  • wow lovely filters on her....sounds gritty and sweet at the smetime....:) very retro

  • She's one sexy girl, aged but still the hottest babe in town. Any idea's where to find a good one?

  • tonetweakers has one or two to sell

  • what gear do you use to record with...sounds great!!

PS. i have an OB-X which im hoping to record soon :)

  • obx --> roland m240 mixer --> audiophile delta soundcard

  • J'LE VEUX!!

  • Great demo on a great instrument..

Wish I hadn't sold my OBXa now!!

  • Thanks for showing off the filter with those sweeps and modulations. I can't help hearing similarities to the Andromeda's SEM filter.

OB-X is one of the smoothest and definately the sexiest sounding polysynth.

  • Amazing sound ! I have the OBXa and this one sounds much rounder/warmer. The OBXa is a bit too gritty IMO.

  • No, 1984 and Jump were played on an OB-X. Eddie toured with the OB-Xa for reliability reasons. I own both and there is NO mistaking it. I also happen to know this as fact. Just wanted to clear that up.

  • sure?

I have also read in some synth forums: OB-X is used in the Jump studio version but is this really true?

  • just for you playing at home the OB-X was used in Van Halen's Jump

  • that was the successor OB-Xa

  • It was the Xa actually.

  • old but great! i love retro synth sounds ;) hmmm ... check some KIND of tribute music (via YouTube) called Vz Vintage Project (solo project from Sweden) this is a some kind of space/synthpop music

  • Thankyou Marko great demo mate!!!

One day i hope to get my hands on the OB-X or a JUP-6 or 8 :)

    5 Stars + Favourite

  • thank you Graeme :)

I wish that you can also play such analog beast soon.

  • Very nice synthesizer.

  • "That wasOB-Xa" ???

    What was OB-Xa???

Great demo btw...guess you now have a new favorite poly !?!? I sure had when I got mine nor long ago :)

  • Yes, this is my favorite analog poly synth.

    thanks

The OB-Xa is also nice but I like the sound of the OB-X more.

  • your the man!!!!!!!!!!!!!x

  • :)

    thx

  • HUH??? Such beautiful sounds coming out of that hunk of synth sitting on a keyboard stand...

  • again, so great. I want one.

  • Incredible sound. Too bad these are rare as hen's teeth.

  • thx :)

  • I hear Rush and Queen....

  • ....and Japan, Killing Joke, Styx, Ultravox, J-M. Jarre, Nena... ;)

  • + Tangerine Dream " : )

  • yes :)

  • how much do these usually go for?

  • the OB-X is very rare and I saw this synth for 2500-4500 $

  • great sound!

  • thx :)

  • I think of "Jump" from Van Halen

  • That was an OB-Xa, which used chips instead of discrete components.

  • herrje... ich fang schon wieder an zu sabbern ;-)

    geiles teil, danke für's video!

  • :)

    dank dir

  • Great Demo...I think that VSE rated very low the OB-X...3 Stars! I think it's unfair...5 stars at least!

    I'm gonna program my OB-X better, I think...your sounds've inspired me.

    Thanks!

  • 3 Stars - this is a scandal! ;)

    idiotically!

The OB-X is the best OB and one of the fattest analog synths ever.

    thank you

  • I think I need to change my shorts after hearing these sounds.... epic analog goodness!

Muss man ausprobieren.

  • whoa. 5*

  • thx :)

  • Der Sound des Oberheim ist wirklich gut. Was für ein druckvoller und klarer Klang! :)

  • dank dir für den Kommentar :)

  • Das war......erstaunlich.

  • thx :)

  • teilweise *andere welt*-sounds

    ..sehr schön

  • danke :)

  • Marko,

    Martin

  • Hi Martin!

Na deine Lieblingssynths hattest du doch im Forum aufgezählt... ;)

und das habe ich mir gleich angenommen.

    Dank dir.

  • i've always liked the sound of the oberheims so much better than for example the moog sound :)

  • moog is also nice :)

  • Analog sound fantastic! Goosebumps feeling ;-)

  • wie immer fanthastisch Marko...5*****

  • danke jens :)

  • god i'm so jealous right now, truly an amazing beast of a synthesizer.

  • really a beast...

    thx

  • just another great demo. But there is something wrong... With a couple of your videos, the sound and the video aren't sychronized...

  • yes I had a little trouble with my video edit software

    thanks

  • Superb...love those sounds. Is there any software synth that has these sounds?

  • OP-X for the character of this sounds but it´s not the same

  • when are we gonna see your face?!!!!

    don't be shy now

  • that would like to see none ;)

  • Oberheim OB-X is amazing. killing joke used it in a song called "bloodsport". the ending part of that song is just pure bliss. it OBX is being strangled. lol

  • and Love Like Blood

    awesome!

  • damn, never knew they used it for that as well. these things are cool.

hey can you tell me what type of oberheim these are? because i think i want one if they're cheaper.

    /watch?v=swzh0ngMNJo

    thanks in advance. ;)

  • this is the OB-Xa.

the successor of the OB-X has curtis chips installed

the OB-X is a discrete circuit and the sound is different

  • Yep, Marko still living my dream. Amazing synths and youtube partner :)

  • thank you :)

  • more OB-X stuff:

    /watch?v=pD8mzZun5wo

    /watch?v=znjRf1zh2fA

    /watch?v=JT5IAiG1dow

    /watch?v=a22LLwE_oa0

    /watch?v=JXZC8W40JRA

    /watch?v=4593D44Lid4

  • Having such an arsenal of wicked synths, have you created any demo CDs that we can listen to?

  • the new album coming soon

  • My OP-X has NOTHING on the real thing! 5/5

You never told me you had this!

  • the OP-X is a great soft-synth ( for me the best) but not compared with the real OB

    thx

  • Oh yeah! It's a good clone of the real thing, but it's missing that "sound" (the warm analog).

  • I agree the OP-X is the best software synth today but less brighness and the warm sound of the original

  • What do you think of the Arturia Virtual synths?

  • haha

  • Thx for this performance .... OB-X rulez !

  • thx for watching and comment
