well this is just stab in the dark but i think its quite possible that one has more strings than the other? haha

but in all seriousness, it has more strings jus ttuned to octaves (i believe) and i think they are grouped in pairs of two. it sounds pretty sweet though

A 12- string well...has 12 strings...its the same tuneing exept EADG have another srting paird with it tuned an octave up where the B and the e jsut have a nother string with the same tuneing giving it a thinker sound too it

Hey man thanks.. For me the 12 string is one of those things that gets rarely played because it's so.. well.. strange (kind of over the top or something). It doesn't fit most songs, but whenever it does I am always so glad I have it.

The paired strings are pretty close.. with a pick, it can be tricky to jump around and pick the strings (you can hit only one of the pair), with fingers it feels like one string. Mostly it plays the same. The fun part is tuning, because there can be a big change on stress on the neck from just one string.
