Really it depends on what size you're using. Don't try and think of it as a numbers thing. When the fly looks full, stop. Just remember you'll be cutting a good portion of that off... I know it sounds as if I'm talking in circles. However once you really practice and get the pattern down, it will become very easy to judge size.

I haven't used one myself, but I want to try it one day. I have heard of people getting king salmon, chum salmon, and the mighty silver salmon with this. This fly was originally made with silver salmon in mind, wasn't it?
But, I can see this working for many species of fish, not just salmon.
I guess technically you could. It's used more for slogging through the surface in an attempt to lure those exciting strikes from slack water silver salmon.
is it possible to make it in any colors of tread, deer hair and feathers you got?

Thats a cool fly. Im going to try it in black. The box one and tye in a mono weed gard, and fish it for bass.
