I am a combat medic with the 10th mtn div and i am heading over to afghanistan this may and he is right, even though its our job, the last thing we want to hear is someone scream "medic".
i miss being called "DOC" its the best title in the world. i regret getting out. as a medic its the best feeling in the world the first time you get called doc.
@cavmedic09 true story man... most of my joes and barracks mates call me DOC rather than SGT, a SFC tried to yell at them once saying it was disrespectful to not use SGT... i told him i'd rather be called DOC.
So my mos is 68w, and i ship to basic in nov. My family is super nervous about me having this mos, but its not necessarily going to be extremely dangerous right ? i mean i know i run the risk of being w/ and infantry unit & etc, but i could be in a hospital as well ? It all kinda depends on my unit ?
@Shaineeec i know you posted this a while ago, but if this has any relevance to you, don't be worried about where you go. everyday i wish i had gone for 68w rather than 94e. you chose a potentially dangerous mos, but it's one that has the greatest effect on your buddies. you have one of the most important jobs in the military and families similar to your own will be counting on you to bring their loved ones home alive.
@Shaineeec well, since I've been in I have been stationed with Charlie Med in South Korea was in a infantry division so I did do field time but I was on the support side of it, then I was stationed with 2-2 INF in Afghanistan, best description I ever heard for that was when my 1sg. came through my tent and asked me what was I without a aid-bag "I said a F***** up medic", he said "wrong, now your a infantryman so go fill some sandbags" lol, then i psc'd to a clinic in Europe, which completely sux
@Shaineeec even if your with infantry unit they will look out for you because you will for them they will put out a wall of lead to suppress people long enough for you to get to your wounded man look at it this way 50,000 americans die in car crashes every year but only 4000 military personel have been killed in combat in 10 years

How many life losing? how many life saving? lets all warriors know that they will no long-term psychological trauma; as a military medical officer's wife, I always remember my husband said there nothing about secret, the end important only saving life! I am so proud of him!

@Fabzil I asked to be a 68W When I enlisted. You can enlist as a 68W but you won't become a Combat Medic until you have actually been deployed as a medic,and done your job in a war zone with stuff blowing up around you. I start my training next month.
good shit man, 10th Mtn medic here as well, and yeah "MEDIC!!!!" is the most nerve shattering statement i'll ever hear.
