I don't think so this song is about cold play themselves..... The lyrics kinda touch a lot of historical events + references so it would be odd to compare this particular song to something....what ive figured out is that the song starts with the early ages then addresses certain prominent Events and personalities and in the end it comes down to today's world may b the cold play them self. .....shattered windows and sound of drums just a puppet on a lonely string ..... Ok, here goes my opinion. I think this about someone who was in "the top of the world" but then the person he loved dumped him, because he thought of him self as the best, and he understood that, without her, there's no meaning of beeing the "king of the world" because everyone hates him now and he was diferent form when he started beeing "the king". So it's like and apolagize to her. This is only my opinion...
