You know, you need a certain amount of equipment in order to get good photos. Your not going to get into National Geographic with a cheap disposable film camera. However, if you cant get your exposure right, have good compositions, and be able to take good photos, a fancy lens will not make you take good photos. A better lens will make your photos better.
I have shot better photos of birds than this gulls eating a crab shot with my $300 panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ45 POS camera! I'm trying REAL hard to figure out what makes thes lenses worth the price of admission!
@Mindcrime121 These lenses are far sharper than anything youll ever get with a Point and shoot. try to print larger than a 4x6 and youll see the difference
@Booyaaa100 I'm saying that a bad photographer can shoot crap shots with a $10,000 lens on a Nikon just as fast as with a $300 POS. I've taken some pretty nice shots with my Lumix and my Nikon, and when the shots are both nice, the quality of the equiptment comes into play, but when the shot sucks, it don't really matter what you shot it with. Good cameras or lenses don't make good photographers, but they do help good photogs take great photos. Prices are still way too high though.
funny that eveyone says get fx over dx, well as many have said you do get the extra 1.5x zoom. ok fx is better but doesnt mean dx is crap right? whats that saying that evey photographer uses? Glass before bodies? at the end of the day its the lens that does the work right? ok both fx and dx have their disadavantges? i think dx is good for tele's, unless your a guy that can afford a 800mm nikon lens lol. i think fx is better suited to portrait and landscape as you get wide f.o.v and nice bokeh :)
@17GAZZANIKON Yeah. I like to use FX and DX bodies. I use DX for bird photography when I totally need the 1.5x. But sometimes I use D3 in bird photography too, but mostly I use it to potraits and landscapes and also for macro :P
@DejaVuEXP Why? Because DX you get free 1.5x zoom :P Of course FX would be better but when you photograph birds and wildlife, 1.5x crop is pretty good bonus.
@scottybee915 He paid 5000 for a superior piece of glass that when in the right hands produces astounding results, i traded mine in and got the 500mm f4 vr :O)
These are "gulls", no "ducks"...

great video, i like how you didn't cover the image quality, focus speed, or any features of the lens since no one wants to know about that.

I hope that for $7,000 that those gulls in the picture were at least 2 miles away!
