its the beast that props you up into the wind and if your riding a test bike like I did up the winding canyon roads above San Francisco following a madman test rider who stays with you . As we road down hill through tons of traffic this beast took its toll on my shoulder sockets down hill madness. Your nervous because you pay for it if you go down on it. Nice bike a real beast. better or not would be subjective really. this one's a twin, the mv naked is a 4 cylinder. different characteristics. overall i'd say they'd both be pretty darn fun ta ride
I love this bike a lot, but the pricetag is what throws me. On that note, I'd like to know how it compares to other bikes in the same category of 1L nakeds. FZ1-N and Z1000 especially, as they are (obviously) much more affordable for someone with a tight budget like me.
the aprillia brutale is its only competition. yamaha and kwaka are to detuned. they should just take the fairings of the r1 and zx and wack some bars on it id buy one then. best bang for your buck naked is the speed triple then the superduke.
ya it is! i got a yamaha 6R (not R6) to start off and told insurance i would ride 1000 miles a year and ended up riding 1800 in first month...its so addicting!
i've seen this guy on other test rides and he is way too advanced for me to take his review vicariously, but, nonetheless, good to hear some pros like comfort (which i wouldn't have expected). obviously needs a steering damper (not a big deal, all bikes should) and that heel guard screams out for an aftermarket exhaust solution as it really is bad; even just sitting on the bike in the showroom.
i'm interesting how reliable is the that thing, one guy i know has 848 and he visited service 6 times in last 2 months, he has only done 2000km with it
Another serious consideration is Aprilia's Tuono. Same sort of bike, awesome chassis and almost as fast (140hp versus 155hp for the Duke), while being much cheaper. The Rotax 990 is also proven to be bombproof.
But... the Duke is awesome and is likely a better bike in both ways, if you have the extra $6,000 USD.
The speedo's on the bikes are notoriously inaccurate. I once saw 183 on my speedo at VIR Raceway (before I taped over the speedo), but there was no way...
As you go up in speed, it seems to become more inaccurate. Also, on many bikes (like my old GSXR750), you can disconnect the speedometer which disables any limiters.
Also, this bike is essentially a 1098 without the fairings. Granted, there are going to be aerodynamics changes as well as gear ratio changes which will definitely impact your top speed. If you change out the sprockets, I have no doubt that you can do well over 150mph.
Yeah i understand but thats not what im talking about. For its engine size thats a bit... well slow. A "streetfigher" sounds like a proper beast, but it hits 150mph. Ah well
have you ever ridden 150mph on a sports bike? If yes then just imagine having to hold on to the handlebars 10times as much because there's no protection from the wind.
the bike could go faster but the rider cant. I have ridden the streetfighter and it has less wind protection than my monster. Also, 150mph may not be as fast as 180mph or 170mph but 150mph is still fucking fast
Everything I have read about this bike sounds amazing. I'm going to have to take one for a spin soon.
Any thoughts on how that tall riding position with the short reach to the bars works for a tall rider (6'3"). Some footage I have seen of guys riding this bike, they seem to be sitting bolt upright like on a dirt bike, which is not much fun once you get much over 100kph for any period of time.
I want to love the bike. But they sound like they are broken and i'm unsure how I feel about single sided swing arms.

yeah its gotta be a naked 1098, but only 150 mph?
Biker16Madd 2 years ago
only???
caandry 2 years ago
yeah, my old mans R1 did 190. And the 1098 cant exceed 150? and the R6 can hit 165-170 :S
Biker16Madd 2 years ago
you're an idiot
this is streefighter not 1098
tonicroatia 2 years ago
and your an ass coz he says its got the 1098 engine!
Biker16Madd 2 years ago
well yes, but it doesn't have the aerodynamics of a 1098 so it can go as fast as 1098 or any other supersport or superbike
at high speeds aerodynamic is most important
tonicroatia 2 years ago 3
Right you are, but theres no need to unjustify something he said in the vid. "Basically a naked 1098" meaning it lacks the fairing of the 1098.

The speedo's on the bikes are notoriously inaccurate. I once saw 183 on my speedo at VIR Raceway (before I taped over the speedo), but there was no way...
MicWreck 2 years ago
Yeah they are, my bike is 5 mph out. Going past speedcheckers doing 40 according to my clock is actually 35mph
Biker16Madd 2 years ago
As you go up in speed, it seems to become more inaccurate. Also, on many bikes (like my old GSXR750), you can disconnect the speedometer which disables any limiters.
Also, this bike is essentially a 1098 without the fairings. Granted, there are going to be aerodynamics changes as well as gear ratio changes which will definitely impact your top speed. If you change out the sprockets, I have no doubt that you can do well over 150mph.
MicWreck 2 years ago
Yeah same , you could disconnect mine. It is a naked 1098 as he says, so its got a lot of grunt for sure!

ok but realistically whens the last time you did 150mph or was in a situation that requires that much speed
ferrari68 2 years ago 4
Yeah i understand but thats not what im talking about. For its engine size thats a bit... well slow. A "streetfigher" sounds like a proper beast, but it hits 150mph. Ah well
Biker16Madd 2 years ago
It's a naked so the lack of fairing limits the top speed its got nothing to do with the engine most big naked bikes have electronic limiters
ferrari68 2 years ago
have you ever ridden 150mph on a sports bike? If yes then just imagine having to hold on to the handlebars 10times as much because there's no protection from the wind.
masterknaster 2 years ago
jeesh whats the big deal with my comment? im just saying if its a 1098 engined thing then surely it would go faster! End of
Biker16Madd 2 years ago
the bike could go faster but the rider cant. I have ridden the streetfighter and it has less wind protection than my monster. Also, 150mph may not be as fast as 180mph or 170mph but 150mph is still fucking fast

Agreed there.

what is the Streetfighter max speed?

Everything I have read about this bike sounds amazing. I'm going to have to take one for a spin soon.
Any thoughts on how that tall riding position with the short reach to the bars works for a tall rider (6'3"). Some footage I have seen of guys riding this bike, they seem to be sitting bolt upright like on a dirt bike, which is not much fun once you get much over 100kph for any period of time.
