The 4.0 litre 6 cylinder Jeep engine is one of the best engines built. The 2.8 V6 gm engine used for a short time was a poor engine under powered and thirsty even in GM products. Even GM mechanics don't trust them.

The 4.0 L engine is no good. A 2.8L would of taken the won even with no suspension and tires. By the way the 2.8L engine is 173cc and is the same as the 1995 camaro.

@Inklebonker1 The Jeep Cherokee, in the video, was first produced in 1984. On the other hand, the design of this defender has stayed consistant, rolling out in '48. They did it right the first time. Any yes, thanks to Jeep. However I see it as something like Apple being inspired by Microsoft. Jeeps are just fine no doubt. But in this video, he has something more than a Jeep here. Jacked up with huge tires. Cheap. YET the rover still keeps up. Inspired becomes greater than inspirer.

The Defender would win over the long run. No question. Don't get me wrong, the XJs are great (I own one), but the defenders are simply better built. The Army freaking Rangers use them. Just wish they'd sold the 300tdi Defender in the US. Then, it would be the perfect expedition vehicle. I could do the swap (not terribly difficult) but all in, it's expensive.

funny how the defender led all the way and not only gave the jeep some tracks to drive on, but found the best way through the snow after a few attempts, which the jeep then took and made it look easy.

@jcaled24 You do realise that the Defender is not an 'expensive' car, you can get one from £1000 in working order ready to go. The only reason Land Rovers are expensive in the US is because something like a Defender has to be modified to meet US regulations and the ones that are sold in the US are marketed as luxury vehicles, in a country where you can get both vehicles for roughly the same price (the UK) you can see that a stock Defender or Discovery or even a pre 2002 Rangiewill beat a Jeep.

@slayer40452, Jeep Wrangler Rubicon is the best standard vehicle you can buy out of the factory. Heavy axles (Dana 44's), lockers front and rear, and electric sway bar disconnect makes the comparison silly.

Ha ha...this video is basically a joke. this is obviously not a contest between to different vehicles....it is a contest between to different driving techniques.

The jeep driver just gets everywhere by flooring it...and if that doesn't work, floor it somemore. And BTW, the video-cameraman is with the jeep...you think he's going to film the jeep getting stuck?

The jeep driver has no finesse whatsoever and the land-rover driver is way to timid in most cases. The rover needs better tires.

OK, which vehical is getting to the other side? Both vehicals have solid axles and the same mods can be done on both. It realy comes down to price. The Jeep is half the price of the LR. All said and done the Jeep can have every mod done and you would still have spent less than a stock LR. I pesonal love both vehical.
