  • Charlotte is still the best, even tho her style has changed....maybe one day she will repeat some of the classics we love. However, for the present, she is beautiful, sweet, and the very best voice one has ever heard!! Thank you Charlotte for the beauty of your voice!!

  • what a doll...

  • UP THE IRISH !

  • pop whore

  • i love her newer song We were young! shes talented in both genres... like if you agree!

  • 2:14- 2:32 <3

  • I guess singing soprano was not her calling...that's why she changed her style ;-)

  • Damn. Just saw one of her pop songs. HUGE difference compared to this song... wow.. my dad loves this song xDD LOL. he hasnt heard her new music though;p i still love her but i wonder why she wanted to do pop instead...

  • awesome song, beautiful face, too bad she got cankles

  • This and Bali hai were my absolute favourite songs by her!!! I loved them to pieces, attempted to mimick her even :)

  • she looked like a pop artist here

  • such a shame she wasted her talents!

  • Does anyone remember that she once said that her greatest wish is to sing Madame Butterfly at La Scala? What a pity!

  • Where's the fire................she racing through this great song, best version is paddy reilly,unbeatable.T.A.L

  • it's alright, but I still prefer Loudon Wainwright III's version

  • Beautiful

  • Beautiful song of the homeland and beautifully presented!

  • SCOOTER!!

  • i love this song!

  • No matter what she sings, I am glad she did this rendition of a great Irish song. She has a great voice. Enough said.......

  • People need to stop complaining about Charlotte going pop. She's just doing the thing she likes, and she happens to love pop just as much as classical. Seriously people, stop. I'm fed-up with all this.

  • I tire of the complaints. If you don't like it then why are you here?

Go find something else otherwise, Shut Up Already!

  • her Enchantment cd was the best. i listened to it all the time in my old cd player that skipped all the time.

  • This is just bad and I like Charlotte but this is not good work.

  • Tha e anbarrach.

  • Get out of it. She is maginificent. What a beautiful voice and a lovely celtic tune.

  • OH CHARLOTTE - GIRL - MY PIPE IS CALLING- R-U-LISTENING?

  • WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO THE ASS END OF THIS VIDEO? IT JUST SELF- DESTRUCTS! PITY.

  • isn't there another version of this song ?

at least I've heard one with a longer intro and an extra part in the middle...

  • I've always loved this song, but this is the finest version I've ever heard.

  • hhhhhh

  • @lackaroe123 - FFFFFF

  • @HEARTHEANGELSVOICES ooooooooooooooooooo

  • quite a good version

  • i'm not much of a charlotte church fan, but this is quite a good version

  • good version

  • Nothing against Charlotte Church but coming to this from Allison Moorer's rendition of this tune I've gotta say it makes me realize even more how awesome Moorer's rendition is.

  • All are her own experience. I respect her and her courage from giving up and starting up new journey earlier than what we all layman expected. Yes. We will walk together with her.

  • people need to quit complaining about her new music honestly just let the girl be herself and she wants to do pop music. So get over it and put her old cds on repeat or something.

  • To say there are three women left who rule the classical genre is a gross statement--these singers are cross-over artists. They have sweet voices but over many nations there are many glorious classical sopranos who are very much better.

Charlotte's voice was pushed into big singing from far too young an age, and it's no wonder it is now damaged.

  • me too i miss charlotte singing this way...

  • love this song. miss her old music

  • Kitsch sells.

All that's missing is James Galway and Josh Groban.

  • worst version of this masterpiece......by a mile .........only one word for this ...crap

  • I love her old stuff. I can't listen to her songs now. I can't even get through the first minute of them.

  • bad choice..fellows, charlotte if you are in you hands ..............scape on time

  • bad choice..fellows

  • Btw, this video goes pixalted or weird at the end...does this happen for anyone else?

  • @Sapphire848

Yes with me also. I'm afraid that was a movie videofilter added by tho one who placed this movie.

  • It's such a shame that she ruined her voice and went over to pop singing. The innocent little girl opera singer was lovely. I admit, I wasn't a huge fan, but I have one of her albums and still sing along to Dream a Dream with Billy Gilman (I have her voice type).

I think there are more who rule the classical genre, but I certainly agree with Hayley Westenra. She's one of my favourites. I also love Aled Jones and Celtic Woman.

  • You watch the innocence of the child grow out and witness the world come in. So now when she sings it is more for the general public. In this and other videos she is feeling her songs loving them and enjoying what she is singing about....

  • the autotune on this is disgusting....

i never really understood her appeal outside of the cute child singer novelty of it....

  • Carrickfergus? Pop music? Get hold of yourself.

  • i just hope that ms. charlotte will sing this way again..

  • Leave her alone! she's one of the few who can successfully make the transition effortlessly from classical to pop, Kir Te Kanawa couldn't do it, nor unfortunately can Katherine Jenkins. The only other one is Sarah Brightman, but I would rather hear Charlotte Church than any of them.

  • @LadyGmarilyn - Yes, I agree 100%. Charlotte is priceless whatever she sings.

  • Sierra Boggess is SOOO much better.

  • i think she still sings very well, and could still sing the songs very well that she sung years ago.

  • Mettlica6547 has NO Class at all !!!! Probably a result of bad breeding...

  • id like to make a internet porn with her she's freakin hot, my one eyed purple headed yougurt slinger is eyeballing her suckhole!!!!

  • beautiful song sang by an angel... my granda played this tune on his fiddle and me playin with him on flute and then tin whistle was and will be 1 of the greatest memorys il ever have .... thanks granda my you R.I.P

  • So pretty...and so amazing...it makes me sad that it is gone

  • Absolutely stunning!

  • I remember her from when I was 7 and during Christmas I'd listen to her album over and over. I had no idea she was singing pop now....that makes me sad. Her voice is too pretty for that kind of stuff. :(

  • @TwilightPsychopath she sings pop?? Ew why? Her voice is not for that? ...srry I dnt like the way pop is sung :/

  • Soon to be among these top female classical-crossover singers will be Ms. Jackie Evancho! The quality of her voice already trumps Church, when Church was good and rivals these others. Just give her some more time to tweek and refine her techniques, then stand back and enjoy.

  • soothing voice by a beautiful singer and melodious song + wonderful lyrics..thumbs up!!

  • celtic woman are number #1

  • now she wieghs 300 pounds *_*

  • I really LOVE her when she sing Classical and I have no feeling when she was doing Pop. I don't understand why she have to give up Classical and do Pop.... I just don't get it. Please come back to this brilliant Charlotte Church...

  • When did she get hot?! Get it CC, get it!

  • i love this song, and what really makes me mad about her though is her smoking! she has no respect for her talent what so ever! there are others out there who would gladly love the talent she has and cigarettes just ruin the voice! if it hasnt yet then it will!

  • Very nice voice and lovely song

  • Charlote becomes pop singer NOO!

  • Dont get me wrong, I still like her voice, but she has seriously damaged that god-given voice, doing pop. Either someone talked her into doing it, or didnt try very hard to talk her out of it...Poor Charlotte, already ppl are saying, "Remember how she used to sing?"..

And now there are 3 women left who rule the classical genre: Sarah Brightman, Haley Westerna, and Sissel..Take your pick...

  • @MrReed314 She's only doing what SHE wants to do and the only difference between today and back then is that she simply uses her voice in a different way.

  • @MrReed314 Don't foget our rising star Jackie.

  • @MrReed314 You're aware, of course, that Sarah Brightman, Haley Western and Sissel are not actually classical singers. And while they sound fine in their pseudo-classical genre, they, along with Ms. Church are pop singers who don't sing classical music at the level which the classical industry requires. Real classical singers iclude the likes of Diana Damrau, Natalie Dessay, Renee Fleming, Adrianne Pieczonka....the list goes on.

  • @MrReed314 What about Celtic Woman? That group sings classical.

  • @MrReed314 personally i like those singers. but still, its always sad to see someone change their style to pop.

  • @MrReed314 aand jackie evancho!!! haha i totally agree with you

  • @MrReed314

I think it is also lifestyle and the unhealthy practices included in that lifestyle that has damaged her voice more. Pop is easier to sing so sometimes singers slack, but it was the drugs, drinking and smoking that did the most damage.

  • @rufus566: And its important to remember that she knew in advance that what she was doing was destroying her singing voice, and she chose to do it anyway...If you want to hear her in her prime, listen to her singing her XMAS songs at Jerusalem, on YouTube, she's wearing purple, and it will take your breath away...14-16 yrs old was the best of her life, she had a 5 Octave!!! range, and it breaks my heart to hear her now...

  • @MrReed314: This is from her Sep. 18,2001 "Enchantment" show in her hometown of Cardiff, Wales. She was in awesome form, breathtaking performances, every song beautifully done. It broked my heart when she changed genre. This is who she is, what made her famous. Why did she change? Stepping "down" into pop, unbelievable. I guess she didn't like the fame and money that came with what she was doing. I don't think she can come back even if she wanted to, this once beautiful voice is gone.

  • @rufus566; And by-the-way, when you do listen to those songs, pay attention to the look on her face..Its "angelic", as if the music, and her singing is somehow---something, I dont have the words to describe it---but I dont think that you will ever see that look again on any of her Pop songs...

  • @MrReed314

Agree, she certainly is not an angel anymore and that is the biggest problem. To be a classical singer you not only have to remain clean physically (doing nothing that may damage your lungs or vocal chords...like smoking) you have to practice everyday. A pop singer is equally about image and tabloids as it is about music and even that is reserved to the lowest quality output. She needs no dedication to her craft as a pop singer, she can be a dirty sinner and still be a pop star...

  • @MrReed314 dont forget the rest of the celti women

  • @MrReed314 I still love Charlotte but you are right....POP is slumming when you were already the new queen.

  • @MrReed314 You still have to eat man. She just wasn't making the dough any teen dreams about. She's just in it for the money. wait until she gets a little older then we'll see her back in this genre for sure :)

  • @MrReed314 Sarah Brightman no longer sings genuine classical music, she is a crossover....there are lots of other better classical singers out there, the 3 you mentioned are only the ones that went pop (-ish)

  • @MrReed314 I agree with you. I would've killed to have that voice.

  • @MrReed314 Sarah Brightman also sang Musical Theatre and Pop let's not forget. I wouldn't call her an artist that "ruled" the Classical genre. She might rule the Classical charts - but that's purely PR.

  • @MrReed314 - Carrickfergus is Not a pop song

  • this is very pretty, but the celtic girls version is better. If you have never checked it out then you really should.

  • I've always loved this song.Used to play It over and over when I first got the cd.

  • @TheBlueblackFairy me too!!! i haven't heard it in forever, so listening to this song was like a flashback to my childhood.

  • This is my favorite song from her Enchantment album :)

  • She has a lovely voice and a perfect face. But, she butchers the original lyrics and intent of this wonderful traditional Irish song.

  • @lgcrooks there are a whole lot of verses to this song....i looked it up and it was crazy--it's like Shenendoah (with 100 verses)

  • This music is so beautiful and magical.

  • what happened to THAT voice??. . this isn't the Charlotte I remember. . whats she gonna do next? Pop!!??

  • @siege78 I'm afraid so. She getting ready to release her third or fourth pop album. She sings in a low throaty style. Very dangerous for a lyric. She's lucky it hasn't ruined her classical voice.

  • @flowersings It's her second pop album and she does not only use her chest voice. She also said in an interview that today's pop songs are mostly staying in the singer's middle range, but she wanted to use her whole range (as much as possible). So yes, she can go very low but she also keeps using her head voice a lot.

  • @siege78 She Is..That's what she sings in the UK now. She's suppose to have It out I think In October.

  • hmmm my hometown as a song title

  • Sorry bodyvegas, it's just that i heard Sean O se singing it about thirty years ago. In comparison, Charlotte only means well.

  • Carrickfergus song,,there is one who knocks everybody out who try to sing this song,,and the guy is Malachi Cush!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i love charllote church...and i like this song

  • Originally a Dubliners song

  • This song is beautiful,,it goes upp and down with the feelings in my heart and my head :),,But in my opinion the best who sings this song and fits with the voice is Malachi Cush ;)

  • i love this its so beautifull !!!!!

  • She is so beautiful and her voice is so pretty! I love this song.

  • up there with the best

  • Mediocre singers like Charlotte cash in on this song to an audience who have never heard it before and have therefore never heard it sung well.

  • @ramqen951 Mediocre singers like Charlotte?? You need to clean out your ears!

  • wow, abs amzing ♥

    it's amazing.

i love the melody, and plus, she is absolutly beautiful, THUMB'S ME UP, IF YOU AGREE!

  • quality messed up with picture...kabbalah matthewshepard

  • hoity toity...nice : )

  • What a blodwen......marvelous voice, good entertainment and a very nice rendition of Carricfergus. I'm sure that all people who appreciate a nice listen to some Celtic song all agree there's some justice done here, I'd just wish that the low life that waste precious bytes on the web just fnd some other dimention lower that the 1st! Singularily pointless wasteful an no use to mankind. Rant done, comon Charl' show em!

  • mon wee carrick

  • Who write this crap music?!!.. and who the fuck listen it.. When i first hear her singing ave maria and some other opera i was crazy about hear.. and now when i see that she finds commercialism more important the true art , i can say im realy disappoint so as meny others.

  • luv song and celtic/welsh music.

  • she totally butchered this song, her tone is so fake and fucking annoying. go to hell u song ruiner!

  • @lickmetender Its better than when she switched to pop.

  • @lickmetender rude kabbalah matthewshepard

  • @lickmetender lmfao

  • @lickmetender You certainly have to be kidding me with this allegation. What rhetoric. If her tone is fake, than how might she have been so successful? Quite simply, if you are not a proponent of opera, nor Charlotte, your immature presence on this wall is not welcomed. Her voice is lovely, she is drop-dead gorgeous, and this video makes me want to kiss her on the cheek. She has such an immaculate face.

  • @lickmetender Why has your comment not been censored?

  • I recently paid a visit to Carrickfergus and have to say it was so beautiful. To anyone who is from there I really love your town and will definitely come back soon.

  • @uGxMaGiiKzZ

    haa so do i ;)

  • i freakin love her voice it lets me know their is a god cause there has to be to make something like her voice

  • is the quality of this bad or is it just me????

  • Why is she all happy in the video?? This song is so excrutiatingly painful, and to see her all cheery just takes away that air from the song

  • just listened to declan galbraith version, no contest he's flat in parts and lacks control .

  • I like declans version better

  • I love Charlotte Church! She has such a wonderful voice! She was only a child here but does so well.

  • I think this beautiful song is sung diffirently and impressively by Declan Galbraith. Charlotte did well and Declan brought a new beauty to it.

  • this song is fabulous.. a character in road to avonlea sung this song and it was fantastic!

  • make that Jim McCann, sorry downing Guinness here lol

  • But if you want to hear how it should be sung look up Jim McCain's

  • i liv in carrickfergus

  • I can't stop thinking about someone special ♥

  • Ireland I visited in the times of the tanks and guns. The old horrow show was ended in the time of Mo Molam. If you care at all in an imperfect world vote Labout on 6 May.

  • i love this song!! :D i sing too im gonna upload me singing this, please could you guys check my videos outt ;) xx xxxxx : Pxxxxxxx <3 xxxxxxxxx

  • Horrible. She really doesn't "get" the song at all.

Nice boobs, though. I'll give her that.

  • Declan Galbraih's version is much better.

  • yeah i disagree with the "wrong voice for this song" comments.

when i first heard this song years ago i loveeed it. it was my favorite of all her songs on this album. it's beautiful, sweet, and romantic.

  • Nahh way i love u charlotte but tbh RONAN KEATING U ROCKK MATEE LOVEEEU !

  • well its better than Ronan Keatings version anyway, though thats not saying much lol!!

  • @deathshead73 Do you have any idea of the reason why Ronan Keating felt he wanted to record this song?

Perhaps if his version disturbs you so much you could find out why,it maybe a little clue when I point out that all proceeds from the album went to the Marie Keating cancer charity Ronan set up.

I have listened to some wonderful versions of song on here but I still prefer his everytime.

  • @cjscitcat I have no idea why he recorded his version. I only commented on whether i liked it or not! In my opinion i don't think his voice suits the song, but of course this only my opinion! I'm sure his resons for recording it are very noble and i hope he raises lots of money for that good cause. I'm glad you find it so enjoyable. But music is a personal thing. And in my personal opinion i don't find his version as enjoyable as you do.

  • The best version is by a lady called Jane McNamee ..absolutely brilliant.. Tho not posted here as yet..

  • This is rubbish - over produced. Search out the version by Allison Moorer from the Transatlantic Sessions - it's easy enough to find on Youtube - and its just stunning and packed with emotion.

  • Nope! This is for a man to sing. It's too light, thin and silky. The video just sucks big time, but is a good example of technical problems in the last min.

  • She has a beautiful voice. It's the wrong voice for this song, which should be sung by a baritone with a rough edge to his voice.

  • Ambidexter143 - "..It's the wrong voice for this song.."

Wow, totally opposite reaction to mine. This is my favorite of all her recordings I've heard. She sounds very flawed on some things but imo she does a beautiful job on this.

  • I suppose it's what you're used to. I first heard the song sung by Bobby Clancy, who was a baritone. I also know and like Jim McCann's and Paddy Reilly's covers. So it's probably not being used to a woman singing the song that puts me off.

As I said, Charlotte Church has a beautiful voice. I just don't think it's the right voice for this particular song.

  • @muzician21

RE: "Wow, totally opposite reaction to mine. This is my favorite of all her recordings I've heard. She sounds very flawed on some things, she does a beautiful job on this."

I agree. People can forget the simple things of music appreciation vs music crticism.

She sings great. The visual is stunning.

I will never hear the other performers mentioned on this page to compare.

A friend sent me this artist link, and I can see how powerful the entire affect is and why he shared.

  • she missed the line im drunk today and im seldom sober , not like her is it

  • so sorry i think she is crap now she is a very pretty women i just really hate her voice declan galbraith did a better job sorry she cant even hit a high not

  • This is shocking, the Loreena Mkennit and Cedric smith is just the best!

  • I agree. Declan sung it a LOT better. Far more power in his voice.
