Nobody could have saved the HMS Coventry and HMS Broadsword. Finally, the Argentines coordinate air strikes, by flying the Harrier to blank. The Skyhawk were FOUR who arrived on ships .......
It was a manual shot. The early trackers lacked a doppler radar and could not lock on due to land clutter (like here in San Carlos water) so they had TV/joystick back up. You can see the missile in TV mode as it spins around the cross hairs so as not to block the *very* sweaty missile operators view.
@stalkingalizee I'm afraid your wong again. The reason Coventry was sunk was because it moved across the path of HMS Broadsword, which had radar lock on the incomming A-4s and was waiting until they were within range of SeaWolf. When HMS Coventry moved across the path of Broadsword it broke the radar lock it had on the A-4's making it a sitting duck. It was not SeaWolf's fault, more bad communication
Sea Wolf first went into service in the 70s. Unlike RAM, its effectiveness has been successfully proved in the toughest test of all - a shooting war fought in the worst weather conditions on the planet against a determined enemy.
@beastatlay it has a slightly better range than ram block 2 + tvc, but although, its a fact that RAM has a 98% hitting performance. Its also more modern and anyways seawolf will be replaced.
I'm afraid you're wrong again. Glamorgan was with Yarmouth (Type 12) and Avenger (Type 21), which only had Sea Cat. In the case of Atlantic Conveyor, the closest Sea Wolf-equipped ship was HMS Brilliant, 14 miles away (well outside the missile's envelope), goalkeeping for the carriers.
@beastatlay Your right, SeaWolf failed on Broadsword against A-4s which ended with a bomb going straight through the hull and sunk the Coventry. Confused the attacks.
What did it shoot down in the Falklands?

That video shows a TV operator guiding it in - I thought Seawolf was radar controller.

Could use captions... took me a bit to figure it is "can outperform" and not "can not perform"

I think this video was made before the RAM went into service. :)

RAM missile is better, it has a hit to kill probability of 98%. Seawolf cant top this.

@beastatlay As I recall, Seawolf failed to protect vessels from Exocet on both occasions.

Given that neither Atlantic Conveyor or HMS Glamorgan were equipped with Sea Wolf, I'm not sure what point you're trying to make.

@beastatlay Ships that had it were within range.
