@Artic3buster Broseph minecraft is relatively new, and 8-bit music has been popular for some time. Minecraft is nothing more than another game to briefly pull people's attentions and leave once more, another Runescape or WoW.

Commodore machines and their emulations can be used to create some fantastically sophisticated and unique soundtracks. And this miracle of uniqueness doesn't have to cost much or anything at all.
Free VSTi and the likes of the MSSIAH can do the job for a fraction of the cost of new whizzo software.

Or... you know... instead of spending thousands of dollars on all that equipment, get a macbook with garageband and download all of the free 8 bit synths...
Clearly you've never even gone on the apple website and tried to shop. Only a fucking idiot (like you) would pay 'thousands' of dollars for a macbook.
The APUs back then were limited, but good. Most people just built consoles with readily available chips. Glad to see that the old tunes are being revived. :)
@HarryFranz To the media it's a genre but to us it's just a new word to describe chip tunes. It's not a genre because you can make any genre you like on an 8bit computer but all 8 bit music is instantly recognisable due to the fact that the majority of sound chips on the 8 bit machines produced similar sounds. The c64 had the best drum sounds and leads and the spectrum 128k had the best square wave basslines, they were earth shattering!
well check the famicom game castlevania3 and lagrange point wich contains both the vrc6 and or vrc7 chip allowing for better, sometimes you hear some snes, genesis sounds including digital sound.
MUGEN2800, ive recently baught a Gameboy original and some other bits including a blank cartridge to put LSDJ on but i cant track down a flash card (backup device) to get the software onto the cartridge... any tips..?
i use fl studio, the 3xosc lets you reproduce 8 bit sounds, also you could download VST's for it like he said, it'll be time consuming but the results will be great
milkytracker is cool, but there is a tracker available for win that is called "modplug tracker". if you are a beginner in tracking, use this one, its an advanced, but very easy tracker and there are lots of plugins and tutorials for it.
;) after doing a little research on the C64, I've completely fell in love with it's sound. If I could I'd build a MIDIBox-SID, but I mean, I don't have that kinda experience.
My bad...I thought it was an instrument that could be used with Cubase. Now I see that it is actually a standalone tracker. Sorry about the confusion!
You might be able to use something like Rewire to connect it to either of the programs. I have done that with FLStudio and that worked fine. But that is a more advanced "tracker".
Not that I know of, but this guy named stormblast0891 has six videos or so. In his videos you can see him creating some stuff, so I think it's helpful.

i allway,s tout that annalogue sound was real and digital sound was virtual but it,s visa versa.
but for what i know is, even analogue soundchannels require a dac converter,
by digital soundchannels the sound will be after the proccess converted into analogue.
but why is fm sound limmited will digital sound is universal?
how they could generate a digital soundchannel out of the atari,s analogue soundchip??????? and visa versa??
thanks!!!!!

but yeah you are right. The closest i can get is either sampling or using the Screams digital distortion.
Logic also kinda does it with the bit crusher but it still never sounds as cold and digital as the original C64 and NES synths.
machineinfection 4 years ago
no, just use 1 subtractor and change its oscilation types. sounds like real 8-bit sound. (can emulate 16-bit FM too). not hard to do.
thiagotecnico 4 years ago
it's all digital. digital do digital. it's true that reason cannot emulate analogic synthesizers. but analogic doesn't use bits. 8-bit = digital.
