  • hi where did you get the first tool from that you used to make the recess for the chuck to grip.

  • nice job on the plate! i want to make one of those but i have a small problem. i have a bunch of logs but no way to cut them like what you have. my dad thinks a bandsaw is too dangerous and i think it is dangerous but i wish i could still use one. i have a chainsaw but it's small. anyway i can make boards from logs like what you did? i would also need to do this for segmented turning since i don't buy any of my wood.

  • these vids are great!

    helped my out heaps

    thanks alot

  • Thanks! Good luck with your plate!

  • Awesome - glad to hear there's another turner out there. It's been a while since we shot that video - I believe it's actually poplar... it's a little softer but we like the way it turns. Good Luck.

  • thanks for the help i just got a lathe a few days ago. is that cedar you are using

  • thanks for putting these vids up, great help for unprofessionals like myself

  • Thanks for the comment. We look forward to seeing what you can do. Enjoy these videos. Everyone needs some help where they are starting out turning. We're glad to know these are helping out!

  • i am a turner and i started in schools woddshop class. i was wondering if you know how to make a bell and if so can you make a vid showing it.

    thanks and great instructional videos.

  • Thanks for the feedback - we acre currently putting a list of projects for upcoming videos. We'll definitely add your bell idea to the list! Good luck and welcome to turning!

  • lol finnally someone with enough brains to roll their sleeves up lol

  • As a machinist for 20 years machining metals this is a lot different than I thought it would be. For instance, I would never have thought to lay the work piece down and remove the chuck from the lathe and put it on the work piece, then put it back on the lathe. I would have tried to hold the work piece flat against the chuck on the lathe and tighten the chuck.

  • lol yeah, its good to know a bit about both mediums, some of the skills are interchangeable...for example you can actually turn aluminum on a wood lathe....blunts your tools a little quicker than wood, but you will get clean results

  • very clean , sincerely...

  • Thanks alot - it's nice to be able to pass on some great tips - and how-to's Let's face it, in the end, it's all about doing something cool. And learning how to turn, rates really high up there on the really cool woodworking-o-meter.

  • As a beginner with a new lathe, this is just what I need. Thx Jet Tools.

  • Glad to hear it, woodworking is something everyone can enjoy! Good luck with your new lathe!
