@L1v2d1 I climb with my Suunto Core and have banged it against rock numerous times without any issues...Unless you dropped yours from a summit for testing purposes or amusement, I fail to see how you managed to "toast" it.

the suunto core is cool but no match to the g shock riseman. if you were to say bang your suunto against sumthing its toast unlike g shock which are meant to take a beating. so to those with the suunto enjoy the little time you have with your watch because it wont last
Suunto Core is amazing.. this watch warns you about storm before it begins. There was a tough dilemma for me to Suunto Core and Suunto Vector before this movie
Thanks for the review. I bought the suunto core, but I'm not sure I can live with this display. It really is weak. I tried to adjust the contrast, but still not satisfied. The suunto core is kind of like working in windows vs the pathfinder which is kind of like MS Dos.
@rodbaker Sorry to hear that you're not satisfied with your Core. While I haven't seen it in person, I know that Suunto makes the Core with a reversed display (dark numbers on a light background). You can videos of it here too. You may find that one works out better for you.
Belated thank you to nikudes. A few weeks ago I bought a Pathfinder Pag240, the latest upgrade to the PAG40 -- but I'm already contemplating adding a Core to the quiver as well. Your reviews are excellent, and between your comments and what I read in the Watchuseek forums, I had a ton of unbiased, real-world advice. Thanks again
PART II: Suunto Core Rocks!!! Rock Rock, but If you wish to change to Suunto Elementum or just to have another Gem on your wrist, read this otherwise have a good day and sorry that I bothered you :)
I sell my Suunto Elementum Terra in Netherlands and able to ship it easily to Worldwide! Be in touch if interested.
After looking at your comparison, I bought a Suunto Core instead of a new Casio. This is actually my one and only wristwatch that is made from any other manufacturer then Casio.
I'm pretty sure I'll be impressed and satisfied with the new watch.
There isn't much difference b/w gshocks and protreks. The protrek is equally tough but has much more functions and much higher price. I've got both a protrek and a mudman and to be honest I think the protrek is tougher.
Tough, tank look like and absolutelly brilliant watch...my 4 yrs old CASIO Pathfinder...Never had better one and propobly will stick to it for another 4 yrs.
I just got the pathfinder PAW 1500 winter edition msrp: $380 but i got it in ebay for 240. I was REALLY having a hard time choosing between the core and the casio. I just thought the Pathfinder feels a lot stronger..
i think that they have a setting the barometer or alti and basicly what you do is you look at your barometric pressure for local you can adjust it to the right pressure and from there your good. calibration
I tried a Casio G-shocks with baro/alti/thermometer years ago but took it back when I noticed that the baro/alti functions were very inaccurate and apparently thrown off by one's own body heat. Since I prefer to wear a wristwatch on my wrist, it didn't make sense. Do you know if accuracy has improved with these Pathfinders? I noticed you showed inaccuracy & also had a workaround by setting ref pts. Did that work? I didn't like how Suunto ascribed baro/alti changes to whatever is displayed.
I've noticed that my Suunto Core seems pretty accurate but I haven't done an accuracy test on the Pathfinder. That might be a good subject for a future video.
I just bought a casio prg40 pathfinder watch in titanium strap and gray color for 11, 350 pesos or about $210.... I was thinking of the suunto watch but its about 20, 000 peos here so budget wise I got the Casio!hehe
The thing you say at "5min" about the Casio being able to figure out the actual reference pressure/pressure at sea level: That sounds a bit too good to me, flying an airplane with an altimeter for 2000dollars doesnt do this, so what do you think? Could it be a standard value instead? (29,92inch.m/1013,25mb)
If I understand you correctly, I think you're right. The Casio won't figure out what the pressure is at sea level. It measures air pressure at its current location and uses preset values to calculate altitude based on those measurements. Alternatively you can set a reference altitude and it will continue to measure altitude based on that reference. Any change in barometric pressure will throw off the altitude reading though.
As an engineer (me) your conversation sound a bit funny :). You don't need maths and physics to know how it works though - I think it is written in the manual (at least for casio)
The Core is not a very good looking watch. It looks like an what an executive in a business suit would wear, not a rugged outdoorsman.

Try pressing adjust, mode and altimeter buttons at the same time. Then cycle with alti. button.

Can you use a Nato strap with the Core? I think that would be cool.

@michaeleffmeredith The original band (shown in this video) did come with lugs so I think that that would work.

The Suunto Core is hard as shit to see in bright sun light. Like at the beach. It looks cool but the display is Shite!
The Pathfinder G-Shock is kinda ugly. But the best outdoor watch I have heard of.
