This seems a very pedestrian lap especially at 0:45 he brakes & turns in at crawling pace (F1 terms) so I thought it must be early in qualifying or someat but lap time says 1.22.. which is very fast wow them v10's musta had some grunt. Saying that tho the Monza layout in 1999 had no 1st chicane like now so maybe was a pedestrian lap after all.
look at the chicane at the end of the start/finish straight..... it's different it's a LR Combo, from 2000 onwards it a RL Combo.... that's why monza is different
This lap of coulthards has 2/10ths of a second slower than Buttons fastest quali lap in the Brawn last year. Its so strange becuse watching this video and ones from last year the old ones seem soooo much faster when they are not.
Why is this? I think it is partially down to your hearing the V10 and it sounding so much faster. could also be down to the awful newer tracks where there isnt a wall or tire barrier for miles that reduces the sensation of speed. Discuss!
@MrMdC94 that is true but what i was trying to say is that for the same lap time the 99 lap seems a lot faster, they still do similar top speeds down the staight with the V8s as the V10s (not as fast as the 2004/2005 V10s they were rediculously fast!)
This car is using 11 year old technology and aerodynamics. Even with the downforce cutting regulations introduced in 2009, the cars still made a lot more than they did before 2002. Newer cars are also much more efficient with how they make the downforce. Cars from the early and middle V10 era were still shaped like shoeboxes and had many angular and square shapes. Cars from the late V10 and current V8 era are much more flowing and slippery in the air.
The V10's from the late 1990's didn't make much more than the V8's of today, too. Advancement in materials, surface treatments and part geometries makes a massive difference in high performance engines.
If you told an engine builder in 1988 that they'd have non-turbo engines as powerful as their turbo monsters in 15 years, they'd laugh in your face. That's how far they've come and how fast they've moved.
@PulletSurprise I agree with everything you say there, I dont think you understood my point though.
I was trying to say that the V10 cars SEEM a lot faster, like they give the illusion of being faster on camera. I dont know if it is due to more modern cameras that are smoother or due to the sound of the v10 giving a greater illusion of speed. Theres a vid of suzuka, senna in 89 and schumi in 99, same lap time but the 89 one just seems quicker, i think its the cameras. hope you understand!
That's because of the camera positioning. Since about 2005 they've been running the camera mounts higher and higher on the airbox with a steeper downward angle to capture more of the cockpit to highlight the driver's actions.
It has the effect of making things look like they're moving by at a slower speed.
feel the speed is not about the camera....you must now...if you driving a fast car...the car vibrate feel the speed...so...the camera must shake...look at senna onboard...the camera looks like unstable...so we feel the speed...
DC never had the team to support him!At Williams he was always behind Hill and at McLaren he hadn't got good relationship with Ron Dennis! As for Red Bull,he invented that car...what Sebastian Vettel is from DC experience of making and preparing the cars...
@coldplaywave Haha, do you really belive that DC had a lot to do with the RB5 and RB6? As far as I know, Adrian Newey, you know, the brilliant designer, invented the Red Bull's. And did DC also "invent" the Toro Rosso that Vettel used to win at Monza?
Im not interested in F1 anymore now DC is gone. even if he drove a freakin force india, i woulda watched to cheer him to get a single point. long live DC
In 1999 Hakkinen and Coulthard had diferent steering wheels

@SirGonjo Yeah, I read somewhere that Hakkinen had the "butterfly steering-wheel", hadn't he?

@shazmeister2005 The V10 IS FASTER than V8, it's just that the Brawn GP was aerodinamically better than this car...
