  • THIS GUY MAKES MY JOB FUN LOL!!!

  • because of the metaphors used., this songs reminds me of Alanis Morrisette Ironic song. just a way better one :)

  • @aoeien Alanis Morrisette uses similies not metaphors.

Tim uses both in this song, phrases like 'Your love is like sand inside a bathing suit' is similie because it compares.

'It's like rain on your wedding day' is also a similie.

  • ahahahahhaa I love this guy :)

  • Comedy is serious business :) We've come a long way since the pie to the face. Embrace it

  • This song makes me tear up a little. Just beautiful.

  • Wow. A serious Tim Minchin song o.o

  • @blithium There's 'Not Perfect' as well, that one is serious but it is so amazing....

  • @songangel1 yeah. I think I've heard everything he's ever done by now xD

  • This guy is awesome - hilarious. It's like Frankie Boyle and Bill Bailey had a baby - and looks like what I'd imagine he would too.

  • I know this is quite obvious, but the reason Tim Minchin is such a legend/genius is because he writes lyrics that, superficially, sound almost offensive (therein lies some of the humour), but if you let it sink in and you really think about what he's saying, it's actually bloody beautiful, and undeniably true. It takes a lot of balls to risk the wrath of people who are unwilling to read between the lines. I fucking love this man, and I hope he doesn't stop doing what he does best.

  • @votremare He never offended me in any way. But he seems to offend many of those people who i find offensive. He speaks out against prejudice and hatred and bigotry and those he offends in that process are exactly the people who deal out at least the same amount.

I ve always wondered how "being offended" is often the defens mechanism of those who deny an open discussion about their views. Views that are often transparent as glass in ideology.

    Does that make any sense?

  • I can't stop listening to this song.

  • I can't stop listening to this song.

  • This song is... surprisingly accurate in describing my feelings in a relationship. Love is surprising, often unpleasantly so, and there's nothing you can do to stop it, so you might as well keep rolling.

  • Did he actually drown plz answer me

  • @tkmdude How would he sing this if he did?.... No :p lmao

  • AAAAAWWWWWWW....

  • This made me cry /:

  • A very romantic song indeed... The knowledge that true love has it's moments where it is truly like red wine on a wedding dress - not the idea of boring Hollywood perfection where nothing goes wrong.

Vaguelly considering this being the first dance at my wedding. I'm most certainly having a couple of Tim Minchin songs (If I didn't have you will definetely be played as will You Grew On Me) because he's outright funny and real at the same time.

  • @ZoidburgIsGreat My boyfriend and I are going to have 'You grew on me' as our first song at our wedding but I think it might shock some of our relatives!

  • Does anyone know what other film Tim has been in just watched two fists one heart but tim didnt have a very big role in it so is there another film where he has a bigger role anyone know of??

  • The Austraillian accent makes it all the much romanticer as i ,ove him and his accent :P xx

  • oh god i lold so hard at the speech bubble suddenly popping up :D

  • i reaallly want to watch two fists one heart but its avalibale in the UK just see and hear Tim and this awesome song :P xxxxx

  • Whoever says that this IS the overuse of metaphor, many of these a similies. Not all, but many.

I have so much love for this man.

  • wow totally one of the best your songs!

  • Tim Minchin is totally awesome :) i love his music, it will always make me smile - or in this case cry a little...

  • I love Timmy, his songs are funny in general, but there are a few that make me cry, eg, Not Perfect and White Wine in the Sun <3

  • This is so so SO romantic.

  • who the el would dislike any thing im did

( shit the words tim is god)

    :)

  • I LOVE TIM MINCHIN SO MUCHH!!! <3

  • Am I the only one who noticed this starts with the same chord as "Hallelujah" by Jeff Buckley (originally by Leonard Cohen), who drowned?

  • @eleven59 I noticed the chord, not the irony. Interesting. Probably a connection :) albeit a strange one!

  • a masterpiece

  • he looks like sideshow bob from the simpsons...

  • This is genius...

  • It's not that his voice is so amazing, it's the delivery; earnest and therefore poignant

  • Wow. The melody and piano accompaniment is so powerful! That it contradicts the apathetic subject matter is absolutely brilliant. Bravo, guy.

  • brilliant song

    love it

    Tim you are a genius

  • this song is, in my eyes tim minchin saying how much he loves his wife, even though she isnt perfect, he still loves her none the same.

its him just saying that he loves her, he knows she isnt perfect, and isnt going to lie about it

  • I really love the melody, and the words are kind of romantic in a slightly contradictory way :)

  • i was so shocked by his range :O

    amazing

    inspiring

    i have an erection.

    haha jks :D

  • great song. its the same kind of style as 'you grew on me' which is my fav tim song.

  • I agree, some of his songs do sound like REM, he has made written some beautiful stuff .

  • What other song do the first 8 seconds sound like?

    XxX

  • @CorXxXSmile sounds kinda like everybody hurts by REM

  • @sjsrs Genius cheers :)

  • @CorXxXSmile I Love You Five Times by The Darkness.

  • @CorXxXSmile They sound like R.E.M - everybody hurts...but then in the end it shits all over that song haha

  • wow, i was expecting this to be funny. it's actually really beautiful and sad,

    Have felt like this before.

  • Makes me think of this bad relationship I was in, once. I didn't want to break up with her because I didn't want to hurt her feelings, so I just tried to deal with it. When I broke up with her I felt so much better, like I could breathe again. Ya know?

  • this song is beautiful, it makes me cry, so does white wine in the sun, he is amazingly amazing :)

  • @LuvNudge white wine in the sun is awesome.

  • @sdoylie yeah it is, it just makes me cry lol

  • Loads of movies have made me cry. This is the only song to have done it.

  • Even though his songs are funny, and could be seen as non-serious, they do have a deep significance and a great meaning...you just have to see it, the right way.

This is one of the greatest song he has made, along with "If you really loved me" and "You grew on me" (In my opinion).

  • @Thorazar I don't really understand sometimes, is Tim Minchin saying something? Or is he joking...?

  • @RetrogradeApocalypse I don't know either, but it doesn't matter at all...it's got me thinking.

As I said, depends on how you see 'em.

  • @RetrogradeApocalypse I think it just means the love makes everything crazy. Instead of looking how love can be fluffy, he's saying it taken over them, it's sharp and chaotic, it can't be ignored or escaped, it's simply madness.

  • i wonder if his wife was pissed after hearing this, i'm curious =b

  • Is this a demo? The version I have is with a full band.

  • @jonman247 no its probably just a version with piano as the main. more acoustic style i guess :)?

  • Where can we get a HQ download of this specific version of this song?

  • BREATHTAKING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!XX

  • Too bad both he and I are already happily married, because he'd be near the top of my bell curve! LOL!

  • its just so beautiful... its a shame there isnt a live version of it.

  • aah I just accidently rated this as poor! D: and its not poor its awesome, damnit! sorry :/

  • dont worry, its not brought the average rating down at all, still 5/5

    :)

  • Heh.. "i dont want to get too famous, you know? When i just want to take a dump in an alleyway... and someone happends to take my picture.."

  • A very beautiful song.

  • I love Tim for one reason...

    So much humor yet...

    So much truth!!!

  • @Aaron5ash wtf so much truth its called comedie not fucking philosophy he tries to take it serious so its funnyer you fucking retard

  • @Elicialiss Maybe I am mistaken, but could you point me to where my comment talks about philosophy? Since my comment has the most 'likes' for this video I must be on to something here. Maybe you are just trying to find someone to argue with to make yourself feel better about your pathetic little life, but considering my comment isn't downgrading in any way makes me think you just need a pick me up.

  • @Aaron5ash your comment doesn't have the most number of likes any more.

  • @freezegrrl88 oh that really hurts my feelings. Why don't we just pull down our pants and see who's dick is bigger since this has turned into a competition here.

  • @Aaron5ash jeez dude first of all I don't have one And second of all if you are going to react like a child just because of a stupid little comment that I made you might as well not have one either. kay So you can take your little immature ass somewhere else if you would like. I was joking.

  • @freezegrrl88 Well joking or not I took it as you were just being a smartass. Yes I admit I took your comment out of context, but it is because I am reading a text comment with it is hard to pick up if you are being an smartass or not. Sorry for the confusion on my end. You may call me immature, but I am just sick of all the ignorant people that leave comments and take pride in bashing them when I get the chance.

  • @Elicialiss It's* Funnier* Comedy*

  • @Elicialiss Lol, either you're really thick or a comic genius.

  • @Elicialiss Actually no, genius he doesn't take this song serious to make it funnier... he takes this song seriously because it's intended as a serious song. Its from "Two fists, one heart." Its a love theme. Just because Tim's a comedian doesn't mean everything he does is a joke. I direct you to "dark side"... Tim DOES have some depth.

  • @TheRealBarnez but dark side is a joke...

  • this guy is awesome

  • yh it made me cry too.

  • nah i meant that will and tim were the funny ones, and slash and leona were the best musical ones. leona has one of the biggest voices at the moment. she has a bigger voice than beyonce for sure.

  • im kinda annoyed cause i have only just found this man an...........oh my as some one said legend im the making.

ion the other hand feel legend is used to often and more and more undeserved ppl are being tlabeled as legend

i once heard paris hilton was called a legend and no one defended it.apart from me.

long story short legend in the making cause he is awsom

  • Haha, this comment made my day XD

  • why the hell have 8 people done the thumbs down thing on my comment? i was saying tim was a legend! wtf?

  • It was use of the word "Was" as if past tense. But yes, he IS a legend.

  • @aar667 I just multiply; where paris hilton is 1x legend; Tim Minchin is 1 million*legend :)

  • is it just me who thinks this song is moving??? it makes me feel sad! :(

  • i do its lovely. about the ups and downs of love its like my love life lol

  • yeh same here

  • It's interesting thet you put it in capital letters, since you couldn't put one on your name.

  • LMAO!

  • "You're the use of metaphor" Hahaha :D

  • actually "the overuse of metaphor"

  • @livelovelaugh258 my friend wrecked the song when she said their smilies because it's like not is or something like that but i still think it's an amazing song

  • @carladraw I was under the impression he was talking about the "drowned" metaphor, which is, in fact, a metaphor.

  • @TokichanReturns Your love IS LIKE throwing myself overboard (smilie)

not Your love IS throwing myself overboard (metaphor)

  • @carladraw 'im drowned' (metaphor)

  • @MJlover3307 i'm talking about the lyrics

  • @carladraw There are numerous examples of both simile and metaphor - and the repeated, central "I'm drowned" is metaphor, so no need to feel the song is ruined. :) Even more helpfully, in rhetoric simile is in fact a type of metaphor, despite the normal, simplified (but useful!) definitions of the two terms we were all taught in grade school. So in fact, it's all metaphor, of one sort or another. It's also great.

  • @livelovelaugh258 ya i caught that

it's a large part of why i love tim minchin

  • @xboxman79 Your mum's the use of metaphor.

  • Love this song! It's awesome. I like the little 'I'm Drowned.' halfway through too, haha.

  • Can you tell me where you got this version of the song from please? I got the one from iTunes, but it must be the one from the movie, as it has the guitar and drums and stuff in, and I like this version so much more.

  • you can download it off his official site i think...

  • Yeah, it's on Angry(Feet).

    Thanks.

  • such a beautiful song my spine tingles :P

i gt tears in my eyes wenever i hear this i luv tim

    LEGEND IN THE MAKING :D

  • Ahh, this song gives me the most amazing amount of shivers.

His voice is just beautiful. The way it breaks when he sings "drowned" just adds to the beauty of the song.

Love the line "Overuse of metaphor"

Ahh, Tim Minchin is amazing :)

  • So pretty ... :'(

  • His wife should be laying on top of the piano, gazing into his eyes affectionately as if the song he's singing to her is unbelievably romantic and such...

  • Erm.

    Good Idea?

  • @wtfacceptthis Until you remember this song is less about traditional romantic gestures and more about "It's painful to love you but I guess I'm stuck now, so fuck it."

  • @wtfacceptthis how is this romantic? did you not get the references? he is saying its shitty love lol

  • @darris321 Shitty love?... boy, you're wrong. This is, as previously written an "overuse of metaphor" but if you listen to "and i did'nt see this one coming, im in to deep - i think i just keep swimming...."

thats is the realization of true love in a heartbeat....

  • @EquinoxxSwe "fingernails on a chalkboard" "throwing myself overboard" "breakdown on a motorway" "heart attack on christmas day" "scaling a cliff and falling off" "trying not to cough" "a symphony with the sound on mute" "a letter to the wrong address" "red wine on a wedding dress" "broken bones in my playing hand" "trying to swallow sand" riiiiiight true love.
  • @darris321 : so... who says that real and true love is like gliding through life, downhill on a skateboard?

Love's not easy, its not nice, its not something that just works on its own. The metaphors clearly depicts the feeling "i didn't wanna fall in love again but you came and changed all that" together with all the hard parts of loving someone, but still you do it. Just because you love someone with all your heart and soul doesn't automatically mean that you have to like them all the time.

  • @EquinoxxSwe

I didn't say true love is all puppy tails and butterflies. but it certainly isn't usually referred to as grating nails on a chalk board. it isn't usually referred to as romantic when you say something that implies suicide. the metaphor NEVER clearly says anything. thats the point of a metaphor, half-wit. it means what you want it to as long as youre within reason. so if i said it symbolizes a water bottle it wouldn't really make sense. but sure if you define love as

  • @EquinoxxSwe *continued* as nearly unbearable and tortuous, then this song is DEFINITELY about that.

he didn't say anything about "with the hard parts" he was only saying hard parts. there were no happy parts in that song lol. none that i saw.

    "swallow sand"

    "still you do it"

i don't think swallowing sand is a good metaphor for something that you "still do" because no one does it.

if you love someone with all your heart you should like them at least SOME of the time. this song has NONE of it

  • @darris321: Within your answer, you are still forgetting the chorus:

Cos I didn’t see this one coming, now I’m in too deep

I think I’ll just keep swimming down

There’s no point in turning round

    Im drowned.

If you take it face value, then sure; i can accept that you think he's singing about how much he hates her and wants to kill her, but between the lines, in the feeling of it all and with a slight understanding about Tim's humor and what he's trying to say, there should be no doubt...

  • @EquinoxxSwe to me it seems that he is saying there is no way to stop even though its terrible

i'm not saying he isn't singing about love. i'm saying he's singing about shitty love. regrettable love. he doesn't want to be in love but there isn't any point to stopping the relationship because he's already drowned.

this song doesn't seem humorous to me.

  • @darris321 "if you define love as nearly unbearable and torturous" --> well, open your mind to the fact that other people experience the world differently from the way that you do, friend. for some that is exactly what the experience of true love is.

  • @wtfacceptthis like Adam Hills during Adam Hills song?

  • he definately had a way with words haha.

  • wow i love it and him so beautiful!

  • Love this song.

    Beautiful.

    Tim's voice is amazing. :)
