  • Do you wet sand the top

  • What wood is the Guitar made from ?

  • what song is this

  • @FreightlinerTrukinCl UFO, doctor doctor

  • do u think printer ink would work aswell? u know the sets to refill your printer cartdriges... do you think it's a try worth?

  • I have these kits on my website. The website is rmolsonguitars and don't forget the dot com If you join the Guitars For Real Players Forum (free) you save $20 off the LP's the SG's and the PRS plus you can get Explorer or Flying V kits for only $100.00 You can join the forum from my website.

  • what does sading sealer do?

  • what brand is a guitar kit?

  • You can find them on ebay, guitar fetish, byo guitar. This was a no brand name kit from ebay.

  • @jwhambone79 Check out rm olson kits, the best you can buy, and cheap too

  • @jwhambone79 it's worthy, i mean...i've got a squier jagmaster right now, and i'm looking for something better, i assume that a guitar kit like this won't be as good as a real gibson, but could be better than my low-mid class guitar? or i could spend a few days with it just to have another "not great" guitar?...

i'm having some troubles trying to express myself in english, just want to know about the real quality from his owner and user.

    Thanks you so much :)

    David.

  • @TheShorty0ne Provided that you put care into how you set the guitar up, what parts you select and how you go through the process of building the instrument, it will sound better than any over priced Gibson or PRS. I've played plenty of guitars, and the ones from kits or are built from scratch, usually play and sound better, a tleast to me.

  • did you apply it going across the guitar(same direction tiger stripe is going) or going up(guitar body side ways Not applying in the direction of tiger stripes)

  • @KEVQUATRO1 I just rubbed it in any old way.

  • can any brand of die be used ,because i have concentrated liquid stain, and the brand to it is stewart-macdonald color tone professional finishes?

  • @KEVQUATRO1 I'm pretty sure that is the same as the stuff I used. It can be cut with water or denatured alcohol.

  • I used one application of black, then I did two applications of red.

  • thanks man Btw nice F***in axe haha hope she treats you well

  • Thank you! Yeah, I enjoy that guitar quite alot.

  • Hey, Just a beginner here, I love your lesson on how to do a tigerstripe but whats a sanding sealer and I dont understand what you do from like 2:50 onward :/ Sorry, Can you please help?

  • Thats phuckin beautiful

  • what song is this? it sounds like camel.

  • UFO Doctor Doctor

  • @belkeSMASH What kit did you buy because I would love to know about it!

  • wut wuz the point of the alcohol and dye?

  • The die can be cut with water also. Alcohol just dries faster.

  • Sorry that I keep asking questions but does the red dye need to be mixed with alchol or water too or just the black dye

  • Both dies need to be mixed with water or alcohol. Should have instructions on the bottle.

  • Did you have to sand or scrape of the sealer that comes on the guitar with the saga kit or did you just do this over it? Need to know please respond ASAP please!!!!!

  • That sealer is pretty heavy duty. I don't think it will take a stain. Not positive. I don't think it will come off easily though...

  • @KaptainKwasnik try to get a higher end kit, saga makes their bodies out of low grade wood, i bought myself a kit for only 120 bucks and the body was made of straight mahogany with flamed maple, and the neck was maple. it was amazing, and the guitar's coming together nicely.

  • I am kinda confused are you applying the dye mixed with the alcohol on and then sanding back lightly ? And then what dye are you applying after that?

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE REPLY I NEED HELP AT THAT PART AND YOU CAN ANSWER MY QUESTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Yes. I applied the die and alcohol (or water) mix. Then sanded it back before applying red die over that.

  • Classic track! :D

  • Were did you get the kit??????

  • You can find these on ebay, guitar fetish, byo guitar...

  • Badass looking LP you got there ;)

  • @fufufufufufu yea i know you cant change the wood grain i meant for his next guitar

  • great song choice, fantastic guitar, amazing re-vamp all adds up to a fab video subscribed!!

  • Wow. Thanks so much! Glad you like it.

  • @fufufufufufu how am i and idiot?

  • the tiger stripe design is cool but you should do a quilted top design

  • Doctor Doctor by UFO

  • Looks way awesome, definately a good idea to refinish it, looked like ass beforehand

  • Thanks. It was a whim idea. Sometimes you win, could have been a flop.

    Pays to experiment.

  • Same ratio with red dye as black?

  • I think I actually applied 2-3 red coats. I soaked in a little after application. Which works good, it just makes the black darker aswell. You have to just watch it before clearcoat. If it looks kinda pink, give it another shot of red (or whatever).

  • Man it looks amazing, good job!

I always wanted a look like this to my LP, but I never figured out how to do it, not until now :p

I just have a doubt, you applied the black die using a rag, ok that's fine, but when you applied the red you did it also using a rag or using a pressure pistol??? No need to sand it after applying red and before applying lacquer, correct??? No need to use sanding sealer, can I apply a PU lacquer directly over the painted surface????

    Thank you very much

  • Thanks! Yes, red die w/ rag. No sandind. Lacquer right over.

    Good luck! J-

  • hey i was wondering, where did you get this kit? it looks really good.

  • You can get them on ebay, guitar fetish, byo guitar. Lots of places have them now.

    J-

  • woooow that looks good, a lot better than before

  • Thank you!

  • what kind of paint did you use?

  • I used Deft brand Lacquer. Works nice.

  • dude it was sweet before but its your guitar

  • It's a hard decision to take a sander to a finished guitar. But if you saw it in person you would have agreeed. Thanks

  • I did use a sanding sealer but you don't have to. Could go straight to the lacquer. I'm not sure what my logic was at the time. I think because I hadn't done a color scheme like that before I was worried if I didn't like it or the colors bleed out I wouldn't have to sand as hard. The sealer sands very easy...

  • What brand kit is this? "Saga"?

  • how did you get trapezoid inlays on the fretboard, when the kid comes with dot inlays?

  • This kit came with traps.

  • How do you apply dye to a guitar?

  • Just mix it per instructions and dip a cloth in the mix and rub it on lightly. I recommend rubber gloves.

  • doctor doctor, yeah great song

  • Thanks. I thought it was fitting....

  • What is sealer (sorry i don't speak english)

  • It's a light lacquer that you spray over your wood work that sands easy to smooth out before using your final finish. In this case I really didn't need to use it. I could have just sprayed lacquer.

  • sealer es sellador se usa en madera, muebles, etc.. el sellador evita que la madera absorba o chupe la pintura o el acabado como esponja, por eso se necesita el sellador

  • a ya , gracias

  • i woulda left it the gray color

  • do you use dupont paint or acrylic paint? im about to paint my les paul black

  • I used a nitrocullulose lacquer from the hardware store.

  • when sanding a finish off a guitar is it OK to sand over the binding or will that damage the binding?

  • You will sand some away but it wont hurt it. Just be careful not to sand it all away.

  • at 1:08 the guitar looked awesome, and you should have left it that way.

  • hmmmmm. I don't know about that.

  • actually i like 1:03 better... but the finished product of this is absolutely amazing, glad u did that lol

  • There's a difference between worn and half-sanded.

  • sweet

  • Thanks!

  • is that a guitar kit u bought

  • Yes. Kit guitar

  • after making a stripe effect, could one possibly use aerosol or spray guitar paint and still end up with the same look, or does it have to be dyed?

  • I suppose you could spray a tinted lacquer over the black die...I would be curious of the results...Thanks for you input.

  • thanks for the reply. might i add, i ended up getting both dyes myself, and im trying it ur way. its going great so far, ill be sure to send u a link to the vid im going to post about the guitar when its done. thanks for these vids though, they helped alot.

    -BR3NN@N

  • Haha, I actually really liked the finish at the start, other than the headstock. I would leave that unpainted.

  • When you sanded it after the first coat, did you do that when the dye was wet or dry? Where'd you get that dye?

  • I let it dry about 30 min. You can get that dye at Woodcraft or Stewmac (dot com).

  • I really like the music.. Whats this song called? Anybody know?

  • Doctor Doctor by UFO. Strangers in the Night CD.

  • nice guitar resembles the gibson darkfire slightly :) i plan on trying my own guitar from scratch soons and im gonna try that blue and green dragonburst with that wood effect like 1337 videos(cant remember his full youtube name but he does a jem) nand it looks well nice btw :)

  • Thanks, that's DUY1337GUITAR. Yes, he's doing a great job on his jem! Good luck with yours!

  • thnx man.....cant w8 to c wat it turns out like...thnx :)

  • aye thnx for the tips man...um i was just wonderin now.....how do u make the actaul tiger stripes show up?? im confused wif this bit but thnx alot man

  • when you have that mahogany you like wipe it in warm water sand the grain and then you use black dye on the top to and sand downwards and it exposes it :)

  • Why are you stressed? Green or blue woul be awsome. I would do it just like I did this one...if you want to see a great green "tigerstripe" go see my freinds yt at duy1337guitar ...goes into great detail.

  • dude u should paint ur guitar like evh's...its fukin awsome

  • aye J- i was wondering, this is the 1st time i have ever built a guitar and i am really stressing out about the paint job.. could u explain to me how u got that paint job because i really wanted to do sumthing like that but in like a dark green or dark blue colour.. thnx o by the way.... i fuking love ur guitar man..lol hope mine turns out as good as tht..

  • hey if you did this same thing but instead of red something like orange or amber would you still use the black die? i mean if you wanted it like have a warm hot color or sthing like that hahah

  • Yes, I would and I think that would look killer! I was actually thinking of doing an orange and black "tigerstripe". Would actually be more fitting name. Thanks.

  • LUCKY!!!!!!!! u got power sander..i had to do it by hand...it took me awhole week and it was a pain in the fuckin ass....oh and btw...u got a really nice color on this guitar

  • what song is this?

  • Dr. Dr. by UFO (Strangers in the night live album. Awsome!)

  • i am currently working on my second project guitar and am very impressed with the way the finish turned out. did you have to use any pore filler on the top?

  • No, the laminant is maple, it's pretty tight grain. just sanded lightly & applied die.

  • That looks great! how long did the whole thing take?

  • It took a few weeks. Most of it is letting the finish cure before polishing. Assembly is quick.

  • Hay man, Those kits are awesome! The are heavy which means it has really dense wood. I'm gonna shoot a video of one of them going together.

  • Awsome! I'm glad your happy. Let me know when you post your vid. Thanks! J-

  • very nice looks like a gibson dark fire im proud of u

  • Awsome, thank you. Those are sweet lookin' LP's.

  • the dark fire uses red mahogony dies and the binding os painted over black, or there is no binding at all like the epi 100. looks close though.

  • Does anybody know here how to take of the tuning machines! I just can't figure it out! Someone plz answer me!

  • You have to unscrew the hollow bolt (front side, slides over the string shaft). Then unscrew the tiny screws on the back. Be carefull and use the right size screwdriver so you dont strip the screw slots! Should be pretty easy. Good luck.

  • oh yeah and did you apply 3 coats of sealer right away or after the first coat dried... thanks

  • I waited 24 hrs. 3 separate coats. Lacquer sealer dries fast. apprx. 30 min btween coats. Good luck!

  • How long did you wait between staining it red and applying the sanding sealer?

  • great look for a guitar like that

  • how ong did you leave the black die on till you sanded it and untill you applyed red looks awsome by the way

  • I sanded the black back only after a couple of minutes. Let that dry for about a half hour then applied red. I had to apply more red the next day because it soaked in overnight and lost some color. Thanks J-

  • Very impressive video, you obviously have always been a woodworker..beautiful LP.

  • It was really just an experiment. The old finish was so ugly I felt I had nothing to lose. Happy I tried it.

    Thanks so much! J-

  • did u use a sanding block to sand down the black stain to reveal the stripes? Or did you just use only the sandpaper?

  • Just sanded with paper. Very lightly. Doesn't take long to make "stripes". Good luck! J-

  • come on dude!!

at least put a burst on that... it looks looks a coffee table

  • dude that red looks absolutely AMAZING

  • Thanks. I wasn't sure how it was going to turn out but the results were pretty good. J-

  • Where do you get the les paul kits and do they come with instructions on how to build them?

  • I sell them on ebay (when I have them). I am currently out. I created an assembly guide which I put on C.D. in pdf format. This is the guitar I used to make the assembly guide.

    Thanks, J-

  • whats the name of the song?

  • Doctor Doctor by UFO. J-

  • thanks

  • That's hot. Love it. We do need to get the band back together. Keep up the good work Hambone!

  • thats what I did when I didn't like the finish on my guitar. Redoing it was definitely worth it. Your new finish is really cool (better than the old one).

  • Thanks, no doubt the old finish ended up a strange color and I never liked it. This will be much better. It was more of an experiment to see if it would work.

  • Great great job man !
