So now we find out that another of these Occupy Wall Street "protesters" is actually a blogger for the DailyKos, one of the vilest liberal websites out there. The most outspoken voices for OWS all seem to be reporters for liberal media, fronting as "activists". Others I've seen: a columnist for HuffingtonPost (interviewed on Geraldo at Large), and a freelance lady who got fired from NPR for reporting events she was a participant in.
Whereas Tea Party are regular folks, not media posers.
@CDBBryan pretty sure people can be both regular folks and journalists as well. Tea Party wants the same thing essentially as OWS and the REST of the fucking country, you slanderous sycophant of minimal education.
Yeah, he has no beard or long hair, is clean cut and has a quieter personality, but Dunn was an actor and a guy who loved to pull stunts, wasn't he? Would he fake his own death? Some people think he would.
But Maxx, this is pie in the sky! Its simply naive to think capitalism can operate on ethical grounds. Its whole raison detre is the maximisation of profit and capital accumulation. Companies that don't abide by these imperatives simply go to the wall. Just think how, for example, abolishing 'wasteful consumerism' would impact upon profit margins. Check my website for more on this.
This anticapitalism thing - Let's have a reality check: We are talking about abolishing capitalism, are we not? That means eradicating money, profits, wages, and private/state ownership of the means of production, and replacing it with a deomcratically-run world communist society in which al goods and services were free. Anything less is surely just pissing in the wind.
@MrAndycox I don't think movement are protesting against capitalism as a concept, but rather protesting against corporate unaccountability, financial corruption, wasteful consumerism, etc . They are protesting to achieve transparency in the media, governmental honesty, fairness and greater opportunities for the vast majority of citizens regardless of age, gender, colour, religious beliefs, sexual orientation, or any other such irrelevances.

After being happy about the way the interview went I started to read the comments below and the stupid ass things people say completely take away from the message here. So damn annoying. If Bowtie wearing George Will is said on Wikipedia to be "the most powerful journalist in America" it either got a bad user or edit or the whole country has turned to shit. A 4th year old could poke holes in his logic cause he is painfully ignorant of OWS and is spewing FauxNews propaganda.
@1Guitarslayer go to 2:39 - "...when people demand action from their government, suddenly people tend to over react (like you, George Will) and say 'that's out of control government'...." So do you get the answer? He is not asking for a "bigger, corrupt government in our lives". He is asking for a government that responds to its members' needs. Do you get it? Do you want me to draw a picture? Do you need more information? Would you like a cookie now? Are you satisfied? Can you understand?
@1Guitarslayer Actually, my dad, mom, friends dad, friends brother, friends sister, two uncles, an aunt, and my grandfather are now out of work and have been for some time (since at least 2009). And I don't know 100 people. All of them completed high school and followed those rules, and many completed college.
And if you assume we were "born poor", you'd be sorely mistaken. Upper middle to upper class.
There are many circumstances that can lead good people who work hard to succumb to at least 1 of those scenarios. So you propose that we just keep these people in poverty? What is the point of bringing this up in the first place.
@1Guitarslayer He did answer the question, he said George's question was an overreaction and that he wasnt advocating for a bigger government, just a government that (gasp) actually listens and acts on behalf of the* people*, not just the banks and the lobbyists.
The anchor for "This Week" was trying so hard to drive Jesse LaGreca into saying that the Occupy Wall Street movement is going to support Democrats. As if we're the "liberal Tea Party." Here's the difference: We know what caused our economy to collapse. We are not stupid enough to be cornered in by corporations using our voice as their bullhorn. We won't support any politician, Democrat or Republican, who has a hand in the Wall Street cookie jar.
@Neo1080 Certainly NOT the TEA Party, but absolutely the FLEA Party.
If you know what caused the economy to collapse, then you know and are angry with those who forced the banks to lower their standards and give mortgage loans to people they knew couldn't afford them. That was the start, Barney Frank and Chris Dodd cemented the collapse and lied when it was exposed by the Republicans BEFORE collapse
Obama has collected more campaign money from "corporations" than any politician in history.
@ladylordess Nope, that was actually Bush, but to be fair he did have 2 terms. This also doesn't include the fact that there is about a 5-10% increase in spending by BOTH candidates every 4 years in the presidential election, so a candidate from 2008 is going to get more total $ than one from 1988, basic math. Obama for a presidential candidate had a fairly grassroots campaign. Bush on the other hand got tons of $ from the big banks.
@slev09 Still on the Kool-aid I see?!! Obama is the biggest corporate whore who TRIED to make his campaign look grass roots. When you do the research, you will see that is not true. Keep dreaming for HOPE and CHANGE. America is!
this is a complete whitewash of the banks responsibility. explain these two facts and how they fit your assumptions:
* how many bankers were charged or fined for not providing high risk loans? if there was a gun pointed at the bankers heads and it was a bad move, I would have expected a lot of prosecutions or fines? where are they?
* how do you explain some banks shifting SIXTY PERCENT of their business to high-risk loans? they were "forced" to do so? or did they RUN TO IT.
@dreamcoyote Certainly the Community Reinvestment Act under Carter, began the process of forcing banks to loan money to people who couldn't pay it back. It is almost understandable, however not right by the government who started it, or the banks to have begun bundling and selling this shit.
Technically, you can't charge the banks, because there wasn't a law against what they did. However, Dodd & Frank on the other hand have a host of charges that can be brought.
they put together packages of toxic mortgages and slapped on A ratings. obviously rife with fraud but there's nothing to charge them with? BS.
BoA has already been exposed for having massive issues in their mortgage processing so I find it very hard to believe they were so willing to skirt the law there but were "threatened" by the govt.
It has more to do with short term greed and credit default swaps covering their (personal) losses
banks were in no way req'd to offer high risk mortgages for McMansions several times the price range those ppl should have been in. ppl earning $50k/yr should have been offered $100-150k mortgages yet banks were actually pushing those customers towards higher amounts. Why? because they received short term bonuses while selling the toxic assets under false ratings.
surely you have to see the banks at least as complicit if not more at fault.
@dreamcoyote Read the "community reinvestment act" . Banks WERE required to lower their standard of lending. Mortgages were never this easy to get prior to this. As time went on, Clinton and even Bush made it worse. The banks went nuts over time doing as they pleased, as they knew the government had already given them the OK to do so. Why not! Even Dodd got in on the deal, and Frank denied it when the R's shoved the truth in his face.
"Our government is a function of our Democracy. By attacking the government, we are attacking Democracy. So to me, I think yes, we should ask the government to represent the will of the people" QUOTE OF THE FUCKING YEAR. TY JESSE
Peggy Noonan transcribed: I clearly care a lot. Look at my facial expressions. Look how I crease my brow with concern. See how deeply I care? Now everyone please go home and get off the streets.
Sorry Pegster, #ows is not letting the issue go. What's the issue? Hm… it's called Occupy Wall Street. If you can't figure it out on your own, well, there's no hope for you.
Not to fall into the OWS = Tea Party opposite, but I can't help it. This Jesse LaGreca dude could be the OWS answer to the Tea Party's Joe the Plumber with a key difference: Jesse knows what's he's talking about.
I am impressed. Contrast this guy with Breitbart of the T-Party. No contest who comes out on top. Breitbart's obscenity-laced diatribe versus polite, to the point, logical comments. Too bad we don't see more of this. it suddenly made me realize that most of the people I know are like this (even moderate republicans....an endangered species), speaking to each other with civility and respect. That attitude is disappearing fast at least in our public venues.Television especially..
Why couldn't the Tea Party muster a single spokesperson who was as articulate and intelligent as this? This guy is not a slick pundit with all his talking points lined up but he makes these seasoned television bullshitters look like ignoramuses.
@1Guitarslayer The tea party didn't muster up all the Republicans who are trying to run against Obama in 2012. Many of them aren't even in support of the tea party or what they stand for. Get your facts straight.
@1Guitarslayer who would that be? Bachmann? doesn't stand a chance. Cain? Not really a tea partier. many of them tend to not favor blacks in the polls. Perry? Fat chance he wins. He is dropping like a stone. That leaves Romney and Paul. Paul is a libertarian but not enough GOP for the tea party. mitt is not enough "maverick" for the Tea Party. Oh...are you talking about Palin who isn't even running...hahahaha.
@fiandrhi Because, as has been mentioned before, the tea party is bunch of idiots that are controlled by people who oppose their interests. The 99% get it.
@fiandrhi i am not rich yet i prosper because i work hard and live with in my means. i went to college with out having major debt, i paid for my home and it the value has only droppe about a grand even in this bad economy.
@usaf317 You say he's a "socialist" but neglect the fact that you already live under socialism - for the bankers. They have been given your money, while they continue to profit. I'm sick of people throwing around the "ism's" because the rhetoric is all they understand. It's a simple "conservative" shit-slinging exercise by those who have no argument other than the predictable party divide. It's embarrassing.
@usaf317 I went to college without debt, paid cash for my last house, been in the same job for 6 years now, and the one before that for 15 years, have two well-behaved girls who do amazingly well in school. So I've done well for myself, too. But I can also spell words correctly on a protest sign, should I care to raise one. I know what a socialist actually is, as opposed to calling everyone I disagree with one. And I can speak in complete, articulate sentences. I don't fit in the Tea Party.
@fiandrhi well i never was much for typing. i tend to write the way i would speak....which may not get good marks in school but it works just the same. i also know what a socialist is and i see the signs and hear what the protestors are calling for. taxes should not be spent for healthcare, college, retirement or any other goddman social program. did i mention the tea party? nope. this guy is a socialist.
@fiandrhi - Especially George Will, who he just sat him back in his chair with that line of thinking he delivered there. Just great. Hope he gets out there this next summer and works his magic.
@mitchgunthorpe she looks drunk - can barely slur her way through Brooklyn Bridge - and does she think PalinSpeak is going to endear her to the masses?
YOU KNOW, I BET YOU ANYTHING THAT THE RICH ELITE READ THESE COMMENTS AND SAY, "THOSE POOR PEOPLE WITH THEIR SAVAGE, HUMDRUM LIVES. LOOK AT HOW THEY CONVERSE WITH THEIR STREET LINGO, OH MY....."
I WOULDN'T BE SURPRISED AT HOW MUCH DISCONNECT THEY HAVE TO THE REST OF HUMANITY.

He didn't answer it, he said the question was taking the spotlight off WS which was dodging the question. It was a cop out.
1Guitarslayer 4 months ago
@1Guitarslayer go to 2:39 - "...when people demand action from their government, suddenly people tend to over react (like you, George Will) and say 'that's out of control government'...." So do you get the answer? He is not asking for a "bigger, corrupt government in our lives". He is asking for a government that responds to its members' needs. Do you get it? Do you want me to draw a picture? Do you need more information? Would you like a cookie now? Are you satisfied? Can you understand?

@preongraham here learn something you communist fuck;
William Gallstone of the Clinton Administration said it best;
Three things will keep you out of poverty;
1) Finish High School
2) Don’t have a baby until you’re married
3) Don’t have a baby before you are 20
Only 5% wind up in poverty.
People who don’t; 79% fall into poverty.

Explain that, you condescending asshole.
TheYouthHeroic 4 months ago
@1Guitarslayer nice job at changing the issue.
There are many circumstances that can lead good people who work hard to succumb to at least 1 of those scenarios. So you propose that we just keep these people in poverty? What is the point of bringing this up in the first place.
slev09 4 months ago
@1Guitarslayer He did answer the question, he said George's question was an overreaction and that he wasnt advocating for a bigger government, just a government that (gasp) actually listens and acts on behalf of the* people*, not just the banks and the lobbyists.
It pays to listen.

Neo1080 4 months ago
@Neo1080 Certainly NOT the TEA Party, but absolutely the FLEA Party.
If you know what caused the economy to collapse, then you know and are angry with those who forced the banks to lower their standards and give mortgage loans to people they knew couldn't afford them. That was the start, Barney Frank and Chris Dodd cemented the collapse and lied when it was exposed by the Republicans BEFORE collapse
Obama has collected more campaign money from "corporations" than any politician in history.
ladylordess 4 months ago
@ladylordess Nope, that was actually Bush, but to be fair he did have 2 terms. This also doesn't include the fact that there is about a 5-10% increase in spending by BOTH candidates every 4 years in the presidential election, so a candidate from 2008 is going to get more total $ than one from 1988, basic math. Obama for a presidential candidate had a fairly grassroots campaign. Bush on the other hand got tons of $ from the big banks.
slev09 4 months ago
@slev09 Still on the Kool-aid I see?!! Obama is the biggest corporate whore who TRIED to make his campaign look grass roots. When you do the research, you will see that is not true. Keep dreaming for HOPE and CHANGE. America is!
ladylordess 4 months ago
@ladylordess
this is a complete whitewash of the banks responsibility. explain these two facts and how they fit your assumptions:
* how many bankers were charged or fined for not providing high risk loans? if there was a gun pointed at the bankers heads and it was a bad move, I would have expected a lot of prosecutions or fines? where are they?
* how do you explain some banks shifting SIXTY PERCENT of their business to high-risk loans? they were "forced" to do so? or did they RUN TO IT.
dreamcoyote 4 months ago
@dreamcoyote Certainly the Community Reinvestment Act under Carter, began the process of forcing banks to loan money to people who couldn't pay it back. It is almost understandable, however not right by the government who started it, or the banks to have begun bundling and selling this shit.
Technically, you can't charge the banks, because there wasn't a law against what they did. However, Dodd & Frank on the other hand have a host of charges that can be brought.
ladylordess 4 months ago
@ladylordess
why so absolutely determined to fault the govt?
they put together packages of toxic mortgages and slapped on A ratings. obviously rife with fraud but there's nothing to charge them with? BS.
BoA has already been exposed for having massive issues in their mortgage processing so I find it very hard to believe they were so willing to skirt the law there but were "threatened" by the govt.
It has more to do with short term greed and credit default swaps covering their (personal) losses
dreamcoyote 4 months ago
@ladylordess
banks were in no way req'd to offer high risk mortgages for McMansions several times the price range those ppl should have been in. ppl earning $50k/yr should have been offered $100-150k mortgages yet banks were actually pushing those customers towards higher amounts. Why? because they received short term bonuses while selling the toxic assets under false ratings.
surely you have to see the banks at least as complicit if not more at fault.
you are forcing logic to blame democrats.
dreamcoyote 4 months ago
@dreamcoyote Read the "community reinvestment act" . Banks WERE required to lower their standard of lending. Mortgages were never this easy to get prior to this. As time went on, Clinton and even Bush made it worse. The banks went nuts over time doing as they pleased, as they knew the government had already given them the OK to do so. Why not! Even Dodd got in on the deal, and Frank denied it when the R's shoved the truth in his face.

@1Guitarslayer Was that before or after they got taken over by private corporate interest?
Grinnar 4 months ago
@1Guitarslayer The tea party didn't muster up all the Republicans who are trying to run against Obama in 2012. Many of them aren't even in support of the tea party or what they stand for. Get your facts straight.
LibertyInProgressNOW 4 months ago
@1Guitarslayer who would that be? Bachmann? doesn't stand a chance. Cain? Not really a tea partier. many of them tend to not favor blacks in the polls. Perry? Fat chance he wins. He is dropping like a stone. That leaves Romney and Paul. Paul is a libertarian but not enough GOP for the tea party. mitt is not enough "maverick" for the Tea Party. Oh...are you talking about Palin who isn't even running...hahahaha.

@1Guitarslayer I said articulate and intelligent ones, not the usual crop of gaff-prone, malapropping republican ignoramuses.

rubbersole79 4 months ago
@usaf317 You say he's a "socialist" but neglect the fact that you already live under socialism - for the bankers. They have been given your money, while they continue to profit. I'm sick of people throwing around the "ism's" because the rhetoric is all they understand. It's a simple "conservative" shit-slinging exercise by those who have no argument other than the predictable party divide. It's embarrassing.
Conranify 4 months ago 27
@usaf317 I went to college without debt, paid cash for my last house, been in the same job for 6 years now, and the one before that for 15 years, have two well-behaved girls who do amazingly well in school. So I've done well for myself, too. But I can also spell words correctly on a protest sign, should I care to raise one. I know what a socialist actually is, as opposed to calling everyone I disagree with one. And I can speak in complete, articulate sentences. I don't fit in the Tea Party.
fiandrhi 4 months ago
@fiandrhi well i never was much for typing. i tend to write the way i would speak....which may not get good marks in school but it works just the same. i also know what a socialist is and i see the signs and hear what the protestors are calling for. taxes should not be spent for healthcare, college, retirement or any other goddman social program. did i mention the tea party? nope. this guy is a socialist.
