I was born & raised in Denton and grew up watching the Von Erich's wrestle every Saturday night. When David died, me and 3 of my friends skipped school to go to his service at the Cindy Nichols Baptist Church behind Denton high School. I still have a yellow rose from that service, pressed in a book. I loved 'em all, but Kerry was my favorite. I had such a huge crush on him.... posters of him all over my bedroom walls. The Von Erich's will always rule here in Texas!!
As a kid, this guy was the biggest star to me. Great looks, built like a greek god, and had charisma and a family name. I really wish he could have risen to the heights that he should have.
I was fortunate enough to grow up outside of Dallas in the mid 80's. The Von Erich brothers were treated like the Beatles. People forget how popular they were in that area. Some of my favorite memories with my brother were spent watching the Von Erichs.
That is a beautiful song. Who sings that? Kerry Von Erich was surely a good wrestler. I never got to know much about the Von Erichs until the mid 80s when I first watched World Class. I also saw his match with Ric Flair. May he rest in peace.
He is missed so much by wrestling fans over the world, the wrestling world needs Kerry now more then ever. Its a shame its never gonna be the same like it once was.
Excellent video. Out of all of the Von Erich's, Kerry was the best. I still remember when he won the NWA World title from Ric Flair. Its a shame that he had to waist away his life on addiction. We can only imagine how big of a star he would be today if he were still with us. God rest his soul.
The tradgedy of the Von Erich family is one reason to stay out of pro wrestling. It's filled with so much addictions with drugs and alcohol. I tip my hat to the guys that can overcome this though like Shawn and Eddie have.
why do we not have a union for these great athletes. you know a baseball or football player has promblems he get 10 chances rehab, counseling and then they have an offseason. too many of our wrestking heros are not taken care of by the promoter. depression, steriods, pain killers and promoters are killing them. when will the cycle end. RIP all the lost and never forgotten heros.
i really didnt know kerry and only watched him a wrestle only a few times in my life but everything i had heard about him was great i only wish i would have seen him more through his life time, but i do know this the world will miss him. RIP Kerry
It won't be heaven for me when I die and not see Kerry Gene there smiling back at me and looking into his green eyes and him calling me 'Mare'. I look forwarde to seeing him there and I will be Front Row Ringside with a ticket waiting for me to cheer him on.
God Bleess him and his family, I will always love him and be blessed to remember him as my friend. I miss him everyday.
I use watch Kerry play football every friday night .When he was in high school. He and my brother graduated same class. One of Kerry's close friends first name was Brian and another close friend was name Bill. That was back when Denton County was out in the country ,lol. All of the RASSLIN Legends from Denton County are missed ,but not forgotten. As Kerry put it when David past away. They are all in the Squared Circle in the Sky and will forever
kerry von erich was a wrestler from texas that came from a big family of von erich wrestling bros, they were great but tragically they all died from various causes, kerry shot himself in the head because he was facing a prison sentence, kevin remains, long story but google it or watch heroes of world class and get full tragic story of these legendary brothers
well there you go,i was just answering the dudes question of who he was, that detail wasnt that important in the answer, but congratulations and thanks for taking time out of ya busy schedule to make that point
"The Triumph and Tragedy of World Class Championship Wrestling" DVD is a good source for the Von Erich story. It's a pretty sad story compared to the other WWE-released DVDs out there.
Cindylew, very moving tribute, great song to.Nice to see the family is remembered and not forgotton.I went to school with his youngest brother Chris. They always made feel like a part of the family.....TxKoyote
kevin von erich is a very strong man and I feel sorry for him being the sole surviver of the family.I hope he was not thinking of doing the same thing though.I glad he's still around.
Great tribute. It's so sad to watch and realise what could of been. If he was still alive and walked into the WWE now, you'd see a reception like no other. At least we have the memories. Can anyone please let me know the name of the song to this video and the artist too?!
My dad is jeep swenson the mercenary, who was very close to the von erichs.when i was little we all went to st. martin together and had a blast. i'll never forget kerry, one of the most caring people i've known. a riot broke out at one of the matches and he threw me over his shoulder carrying me to safety. a brick hit him in the head, but he didn't miss a step. R.I.P. Kerry and of course my daddy
your father played in batman and robin right. How did your father and you feel when all the von erich dead that's got to be hard for the last brother and for everbody in WCCW and the wrestling world.heck ever Warrior felt sorry for that family.
great tribute- great video. does anyone have the tribute to David Von Erich- "Heaven Needed a Champion"- that was a tear jerker and the song was great.
Thanks so much for posting this. Wish there was a way to X the negative/ignorant comments..The Von Erich's-all of them-were-(& Kev still is)-good people who worked very hard. David did NOT die of OD..period; & we have no right to judge the family-even though some "fans" like to rant & preach-& don't realize or care-how hurtful these comments can be. I just feel blessed to have seen them, and the fun of pure, unadulterated "rasslin".
Everytime I looks at Kerry Von Erich I see "wasted potential" the guy was a hero to many and he should of been on the level of Hulk Hogan and Ultimate Warrior but for all his gifts the one he did not have was brains. R.I.P. Modern Day Warrior.
thank you so much for all the Memories that you gave the fans of Wrestling Kerry Von Erich you will be missed by all Wrestling fans all over the world may you be at peace and thank you for all that you have done!R.I.P
Nice tribute. I was devastated when we lost all of our beloved Von Erich's except Kevin. They were the reason I watched wrestling. When they died, I quit watching for a long time. Just could bring myself to watch knowing I wouldn't see them in the ring. I lived in Ft Worth at that time when they were in their prime and living around Dallas/Ft Worth.
The Von Erich family was so proud, they didn't admit Kerry lost his foot in the motorcycle accident. It was always a rumor, but wasn't revealed until after he died. His time as the Texas Tornado was spent going through lots of pain. A true fighter and man. RIP.
beautiful tribute. as a child the texas tornado was one of my favorites and when he passed, i remember believing it was a plot twist. when is WWE going to provide medical insurance for these athletes and take notice that their suicide rate is absorbant?
McMahon had nothing to do with Kerry's death. In fact, he tried to help Kerry and offered to get him into rehab, not to mention Kerry's problems were pretty well documented before he even got to the WWF
I think some weak or weird genetics plus surely a horrible dark secret within the family that destroyed them. I wish some objective person would write a book about this family.
Mike, Chris & Kerry committed suicide. David there are some questions about how he died. I believe Kevin is the only one alive and I think I heard he lives in Hawaii now.
David died in 1984. Mike took sleeping pills in 1989. Chris, the youngest shot himself in 1991. And Kerry (my favorite) had lost his foot in a motorcycle accident. He shot himself in the chest in 1993. I know it was all so stupid. I live in Texas so I had watched them forever, I was so sad when Kerry died.
At which cemetary are the Von Erich's buried in Denton? I was on my way to Tulsa last year and stopped in Denton on the way, and no one could tell me.
The Von Erichs are buried in Dallas(Pleasant Grove. The cemetary is Grove Hill Cemetary. They lived in East Dallas years ago, so that's where they are all buried.
