  • Ayyyyyyyyyght!

  • Who does the vocals for the hebrew version? Is it the first lady Bonnie Franklin meets on Shalom Sesame #1?

  • Love these "Jazz Number" segments, which I also call "P{sychedelic Rockin' Number" segments! I love the play on words in "8"!: The caterpiller "8" the flower, the spider "8" the caterpiller and the snake "8' the spider! Oh, and of course in the "Bert and Ernie" segment that sometimes followed this carftoon Bert "8" the sandbox!

  • I remember that the Spanish-language versions were EQed differently so that the clavichord was louder. Peace.

  • The spider's dance in 8 always made me laugh!

  • Anyone know where I can watch Israel's Rechov Sumsum and get these videos in Hebrew?

    Thanks.

  • These were my favorite segments on Sesame Street as a 4-5 year old. I still remember that music and that voice. Glad to know who it is now, and glad to see it here. Thanks.

  • "NI-i-iii-iiii-ne!"

    "Nion?"

    "NIIIiiine!"

    Classic stuff!

  • Who is that saying "Okay this is number...?"

  • I think it's Jeff Hale.

  • Who is that saying "this is number.."

  • How did you happen to come across this?

  • Thanks HF for always bringing us the good stuff. Ni-en! To see these pieces with the lead in is priceless.

  • I always thought segment 8 was grotesque the way the spider eats the worm then licks its lips & then the paisley printed snake gobbles up the spider.

  • thats amazing that you found those, have you found any segments of some human guy that made shadows by any chance, cause thats a hard one to find.

  • Man I love these jazzy spy clips. I just wonder what it was like to be in the recording studio watching Grace Slick lay her vocals down. I wonder how stoned she was.

  • I loved these Jazzy Spies clips. I wish someone could find the #8 one with the attached Ernie and Bert sketch of "I 8 the Sandbox"

  • It's here on YouTube. Just search "sesame jazzy 8" and you'll find it.

  • Yeah, August '69 makes sense, as I remember it from the first season, 1969-70. (Wonder who the vocalist was.) I remember one time seeing that the "Baker" series 1-10 had a "1" segment, but don't recall ever seeing a "1" for this series.

  • Grace Slick of Jefferson Airplane is the vocalist, believe it or not!

  • But I kid the goat.

  • Hat and tie... the goat was dressed to the nines.

  • Groannnnn.... :)

  • You're right, it was pretty baaaaad!

  • LOLOLOL

  • OH MY GOD: I think I've finally figured out the time signatures of this cartoon's music - composed by Denny Zeitlin, by the way. Fellow music geeks, weigh in:

    Drum fill intro,

    00:18-00:30 is 2/2

    00:31-00:37 are 6/8 to 10/8, 6/8 to 10/8

    00:38-00:51 is 7/4

00:52 to end of song is 2/2

Comments? Disagree? ANY BETTER IDEAS LOL???

  • Also, I think "Jazz" was kind of a lame title for this series of skits. I like the fan name "The Jazzy Spies" better

  • (secretly I do too)

  • Considering that the spies were active characters in only one of the clips (#10), "Jazz Numbers" is at least more accurate. Unlike the baker in those "Number Song" clips, the spies don't do anything memorable at the end of the rest...they just flash 1-10 from under their coats.

  • The great thing about having these Jazzy clips archived is that we have proof they never made a #1.

  • Unless: they stored it on... another Beta master! LOL!

(cue soap opera "crisis" organ note)

    "And the mystery continued..."

  • A lot of people established that there was no #1 of Jazz of Pinball, because 1 wasn't a popular number sponser early on. But then again, they could have made storyboards and stuff we don't know about.

  • Mr. Zeitlin asked today if there was a Jazz Numbers # 1. That's INTERESTING.

Could it be he subtly recalls one?

  • Otherwise a character from such clip would be among those in the grandstands in the #10 clip. If it were up to me, I would've used a basketball player for the silent intro. Of course a roller skater, skateboarder or any athlete that was never used would do.

  • Those are EXTREMELY good ideas.

  • If Jazz #1 were being animated nowadays, the most obvious choice (in my opinion) would be some sports fan holding up one of those foam-rubber "We're #1" fingers. (Hmmm, did they have those things in 1969?)

  • I don't know, but had they been around then, I'm sure that would probably have been their first option. Good idea, I.S.

  • It's rather hard to make out the countdown leader at the beginning.

  • Sorry... :(

  • Hey, it's OK. I can tell when "4" comes up due to the "C C F F" part.

  • Denny Zeitlin on Clavinet, gotta love it..when did he do this, like '73?

  • He says August 1969.
