He took a great deal of satisfaction from teaching, and I promise you he never thought of the younger staff members as "lowly." I think my father was always a sergeant at heart, and he enjoyed the opportunities he had to train others, even his stubborn son. Beyond that, he enjoyed his work, and his co-workers. I remember going sledding on the big (big when I was 7) hill at Sinnissippi with some of the guys from the station. It was a good day. Thank you for sharing your memories of him.
John, your Dad was incredibly patient with young staff members. We went out to shoot a story and HE taught me what "b-roll" meant! Also he was very kind to the people in the studio. I was so young and it was so long ago I only remember snippets, but I DO remember how kind he was to the 'lowly" folks at the station. A great man, in my book, and apparently with MANY others.
Hello. I'm Chuck Faber's son, John. My dad passed in May, 2009 at age 83. He always thought fondly of his time in Rockford and would have been pleased to know that people still remembered him and missed him.
Thank you for posting this clip. It was a treat to see him in action again.
Does anyone here or have the commerical that was made back in the 70's of Lou Bachrodt Chevrolet with the guy who is looking for a car is scared by a salesman after he pops up out of no where and he trys to tell the buyer that he has better deals than Lou Bachrodt.
I was not there that long ago but I seem to recall the call letter switch was before the "New Action News" went on the air. Maybe by a year or more? The woman behind this reads this post and perhaps Mary can answer.
Was this "relaunch" of the news right around the time of the call letter change from WCEE to WIFR? (I never really understood what WCEE was supposed to stand for, if anything; WIFR is more obvious.)
That's just what I thought too. It sounds like they sampled the percussion part of the CBS Special bumper to use as part of the news theme. After all, they were a CBS affiliate.
Having heard "Call for Action", from which the CBS Special music was derived, that's what it is -- the full version of Call for Action, which was a track by Morton Stevens created for "Hawaii Five-0".

I miss the "old days" Chuck. You and Ken and Sue were so professional.
Hope that you are doing well,

Sue Mroz was already on TV "for several years" at this time?!
I don't know if I could picture her with a beehive hairdo, but who knows?

"Chuck" looks positively ecstatic with his new colleagues.

Interesting. I was hoping to find that very same commercial. No luck so far, but I'm having fun seeing old CH 23 clips from when I was a kid.

That's longtime WTVO anchor Bruce Richardson in the clip. He was the face of WTVO News for many years.

It all looks extremely nicely done for 1977 -- much nicer than you'd find in some of the surrounding markets at that time.

Sounds sort of like the CBS Special Presentation theme.

I'm not so sure it isn't!

I thought it was "Call to Danger". At least that's what I read on another site.

You're correct. I misremembered the title.
