I've been playing this off and on via DOSBox for the past year & a half. The Tandy sound effects are slightly nicer than the ones here -- but it took a lot of tweaking (with help from the folks at VOGONS) to enable both the intro music & the Tandy sound effects. I haven't gotten to this point in the game yet (although I did complete it years ago, both in MS-DOS and C64 versions).
Great memories of this one! This was the first DD&D game I played on a PC. All my others had been on the C64, which actually had better sound, but the PC had slightly better graphics and of course there was no endless loading of 5.25 floppys!
Epic game...took me 8 months to beat, and two of those months was waiting for a response from TSR because I got stuck and sent them a letter via snail mail, and they did mail me back! It's amazing that I can't get nearly half the enjoyment out of today's RPGs. No more AD&D after Neverwinter Nights...now you have retarded half assed RPGs like Dragon Age making a complete mockery of original AD&D. Consoles have completely ruined it for us original RPGers.
@ihateneubs Agreed! Modern RPG's just haven't got it especially when you saw what came before and have something to compare it to ;) I had this game on my C64 years back and after finishing it i just wanted MORE!!! A fantastic game!! :)
great post, i remember that fight years ago, funny how that stuff stick in your head. Working on Pools now, i hate being level one so weak! cleaning out the slums now
