Fuck! I thought they were airborne and were doing a parachute jump, although I am not sure that if they were doing a parachute jump, they'd be that close. Nevertheless, I still thought they were airborne :)
@SaintsSpecOps THey are load masters, enlisted, so they make enough to live but not much more, and this is a C-130, an airplane not a helicopter... In the military, the value of the equipment you use has nothing to do with your paycheck.
@bronxbomber252 eh it looks like a chinook, and i never said the value of the equipment you use has anthing to do with his paycheck i was simply stating they get to ride around in a plane worth more than his possesions
@SaintsSpecOps It might me a Chinook on closer inspection, but I am not sure. But you did not just say they ride around in a helicopter worth more than his possessions... you also said they probably make more than he does, which although possible, is unlikely
Best trick I had as a Loadmaster was when dropping 64 troops from Bragg. We'd fill a barf bag with hot soup, the Loadmaster in front of plane would ask troops to pass the full barf bag to the Loadmaster at back of plane. Bag was all warm, troops were not happy. When we'd get barf bag we'd open it and drink the soup! The troops would start dry heaving and hurling. Fun stuff!
Because it's generally hot as hell, you're wearing upwards of 130lbs at times when combat equipped, you're packed in so tightly that sardines would call their accomodations luxurious, you're dehydrated so you don't pee on yourself since you can't get out of the harness or get up, you're tired, nervous (for some), you enjoyed the JP-8 fumes for a while on the ramp, and the damned plane keeps bouncing around. Trust me, it's a situation ripe for puking. Bad turbulence = vomit comet!
I'm in Air Transportation. We load/unload the planes, but we do no fly on them. It's a lot of heavy labor (pushing pallets, tieing down vehicles). There are some benefits of it though. I worked in the passenger terminal at Ramstein for 3 years so now I know EVERYTHING about flying space-a. We have a saying too. Our MAJCOM is AMC which is Air Mobility Command, but we call it Alcoholics Moving Cargo.
If you ever served in the military, you know about hurry up and wait. Their making the best out of waiting.
