And guess what: Stories have surfaced that Rock and Austin could be twats after they rose to the top. Of course they could be. Hogan, Flair, Rock, Austin and every other star in the top spot knew that dropping just one spot on the roster means dropping one whole digit on your paychecks and everyone wanted their spot. I can't believe the crap said about Hogan. Talk about a guy who was held down, there's never been a more glaring example than Hogan in AWA where Hulkamania started.
@mongoose704 And what everyone neglects to mention is that Hogan made money for his opponents and nearly everyon on the roster. I don't know if they stil pay guys for shows based on percentage of gate but back then they did. You got paid based on your position on the show, and of course the bigger the overall gate, the more money you'd get. To give an example, Paul Orndorff permanently damaged his arm rather than take time off to heal, because the gates he drew with Hogan were astronomical.
@peterp21 That's why everyone back then liked Hogan or was amicable with him. Furthermore in the WWF Hogan would work a lot of house shows (something Austin, Rock, and Triple H didn't like doing) That REALLY helps the midcarders because it guarantees a full house which translates to more gate and merch sales.
Heenan set everyone straight about the Hogan hate. The guys Hogan didn't work with hated him. If you couldn't draw or make money, Hogan likely didn't work with them.
@77777johnnybravo LOL!!!! Flair was a success, the last touring NWA Champ, the main guy during the great 1985-87 Jim Crockett Promotions days. But Hogan was a mega-star. A genuine crossover celebrity. Made tons of money for himself, his opponents, his coworkers, and his bosses. Had memorable Wrestlemania main events against Piper, Andre, Savage, and Warrior. Who gives a crap if Flair had better workrate. The business is about making the fans care and want to buy a ticket to the show.
@singularku 1994. The two were supposed to meet at Wrestlemania VIII two years earlier in what would be THE dream match come true, but NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
@johnnyafairbanksak There's a variety of stories out there re: Wrestlemania VIII but apparently the feud wasn't exactly setting the world on fire. A question of timing? That Flair didn't really fit in with what the WWF fan thought a guy on par with Hogan would be? A better idea in theory than in practice? Political issues?
there is one thing I need to know. the fans and audience of WCW seems less diciplined than WWE . They threw things intothe ring and seems less classy. Does anyone agree?
@ClementChai Classy or not, WCW was drawing serious heat back then. The shows had the feeling of barely controlled chaos. But man were people into it.
Flair was a better entertainer than wrestler. Talk with people that actually understand how to work in the ring, wrestle and know ring psychology and they all say Flair was overrated in terms of in ring skills and psychology. In fact he often called matches in a manner to make his competitor look bad. Ask Savage, Hart, the Steiners etc
@mongoose704 Good point. A lot of internet smart marks act like zombies, believeing whatever Dave Meltzer, Scott Keith or other internet marks tell them to believe. Workrate matters. Flair was a beloved god. Same for Benoit, Dynamite Kid, Malenko, etc. It really bugs them to know that their internet faves might have been drug abusers, or steroid users just like the hated Hogan or Warrior. Or that Flair was a backstage bastard. Actual wrestlers care about drawing money, not workrate. Hogan=cash
@Thunderdome616 Actually Flair could be a twat backstage. He's had a number of instances where he was unprofessional. In fact his constant politicking to get his utterly physiqueless and talentless son David pushed is a black eye on his career yet his fanbois and marks sweep that under the rug. The roster was so fed up Hogan hardway whipped David in the ring as a message to Flair that "this awaits him if you keep pushing him above us." Imagine if Undertaker been been in that ring???
Did you hear about the storyline in the 80s with Flair? Flair played politics for Arn Anderson to win the NWA tag Team titles over lex luger, lex and arn had a real life fight *That got resolved with flair making smart reactions at luger*
@tonshaad1230 Flair is as political a son of a bitch as Hogan ever was. Everyone talks about Brutus Beefcake being Hogan's boy. Well, Arn Anderson was Flair's Beefcake. It's understandable to want to stay on top, where the money is, but let's not pretend Flair is an angel. And when maybe the business was starting to slip, Flair should have been a good employee and dropped the title to someone on the rise, like a Luger. But he didn't, to NWA/JCP/WCW's detriment.
hogan is a very convinsing bad guy he just knows how to have the fans turn on him he is a great heel he cant do it now because the only heel owner that i know of was bichoff wwe days and wcw days and VMc of the WWE
Hogan owns all the rights to the Hulkamania name and logos. That's why he can use it anywhere he pleases. That's why he didn't re-sign with WWE in '09 so he could retain the rights. Hogan also owns the rights to his WCW theme song "American Made". WWE still owns the rights to Real American though.
hogan must own the hulkamania trademark he just ran a tour of austtralia called 'hulkamania' where he dropped the leg on flair every night lol alot of the new tna guys were on the tour too.
if mcmahon owned tna he would co-promote with raw and smackdown and tnas ratings wouldn't be half of theirs lol
@ravenrage07 yeah good point. vince doesn't like gritty, realistic storylines or competitive, high flying, technical wrestling, plus he would never have jeff jarrett on his payroll again after that whole blackmail thing with the ic title.
have you noticed the hulkamania logos that hogan wears in tna? they are the exact duplicate to the wwe owned logos. folks, i think we're being played for fools, and wwe owns(maybe not a 51% majority) tna
hogan is the greatest pro wrestler of all time. there's tons of guys who did more moves than he did,but how many of those guys turn into legends? charisma makes it work. anyone who disagrees explain to me why mcmahon/wwe let the ultimate warrior beat hogan clean at a wrestlemania. flair is not as well known as hogan and is extremely overrated. now i know i said charisma makes it work and flair does have it, but flair fans make it like he's a kurt angle type of wrestler..hes not. HOGAN=GOD.
I have no idea how you can say that Flair is a 16 time WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION! Hogan is famous no doubt about it. But Ric Flair is the original rated R superstar and a true inovator of the sport.
he never really beat anyone. its scripted. who the fans love and whos merchandise they buy is not scripted. THAT is why hogan is the best and always will be.
@TheOlson205 why would you watch wrestling on youtube if it is "sooooooooo f'n fake" you talk alot of shit because your behind your keyboard. Pro wrestling is real... people are fake.
@flairfan101 The best wrestler is who draws the most money. Hogan. Did Flair slam the giant? No. Fight Piper in the MSG? No. Flair's great, but Hogan's on a level all by himself.
@thedawn090 I agree. Flair wasn't that big of a draw. I feel the same about Bret Hart. I don't like the guy but I almost had to laugh at the truth of Shawn Michael's comment to Bret Hart about: "Before you put a great big sleeperhold on this crowd Bret..." Bret could draw in Canada and that's only after Vince gave him the cheap nationalist heat with the Canadian Hero, American Heel gimmick. Bret was great on the mat, but not a draw. Austin and Rock were also huge draws.
@millyindollartint When you say "Hogan = God", it pretty much kills your credibility. And what does Ultimate Warrior have to do with it? He was pretty much out of wrestling within two years---obviously Vince fucked up that decision---but what does that have to do with anything? They're both legends, Flair and Hogan, but for wrestling fans, Flair was on a whole other level. For kids wearing red and yellow, yes, Hogan was the best.
@ altohart -obviously i dont really mean hogan is god,so for you believing that, i dont know what to say about your credibility. my point for bringing up warrior is that charisma is what works in wrestling and that ric flair is ridiculously overrated, even as an actual wrestler. for example. bret hart,to me, was a better in ring wrestler than flair.but flair is more legendary than bret because of his personality/gimmick. that is what i was trying to get across.
@millyindollartint Yeah, Hogan as a cripple is tearing it up these days...what a charisma-filled god. Get your tongue out of his ass and get back to me.
So many Hogan haters here on youtube. But lets be objective this man did more good things for business than bad things. 2 things wrong with this picture. One, you, who does not know wrestling whatsoever, trying to talk about wrestling. Two, you, some fag, trying to insult me and the only thing you can say is "your mom." That was popular when I was in 4th grade. Get a life.
Does anyone know how I can get in touch with Woman or Miss Elizabeth? Oh wait, nobody can... they're fucking dead.

2 things wrong with this picture. One, you, who does not know wrestling whatsoever, trying to talk about wrestling. Two, you, some fag, trying to insult me and the only thing you can say is "your mom." That was popular when I was in 4th grade. Get a life.

bobby the brain heenan? ok this guy's opinion and a nickel is worth a free coke. what a losere you are heenan

Heenan always hated Hogan. I despise Hogan too, partly because he was all muscle and no talent. Flair was a true talent.

Perhaps the best thing about the nWo and Hogan's heel turn was the still constant hatred on Hogan from Bobby Heenan. That was so unique.

I don't blame Bobby. I have an unnatural hatred for Hulk Hogan.

@punymoron I agree. The nWo storyline was VERY smartly done in the beginning & that's how it became the best angle in wrestling history.
