For my family we are not prepping for the end of the world, we are prepping for the survival of our family. Anything can happen, from a big storm, to a loss of income. If people think we are crazy, well thats fine but we will be the ones with food and water. I have been called crazy from friends and family...but what can I say, we like to be prepared. My reply to non-preppers is this: the worst thing that can happen to a prepper is that they'll save a ton of money if the s never hits the fan.
It's like people are in a fog. Food is as inexpensive as it's going to be. At the very least, stocking up makes sound fiscal sense. At most, when all the stores are empty (in about 2 days) it could mean your kids or grandkids get the chance to grow up.

My motto has always been "it is better to have and not need, then need and not have." Food storage makes great economical sense. Food prices never go down. If you rotate your stock, what is wrong with having food around? It will be someone like you who comes knocking on my door asking if you can borrow some food. There is no reason not to be prepared. It is similar to buying life insurance. You hope you dont die, but IF you do, its all good. Fine line between being paranoid and prepared.

I stock food not because I believe the end of the world is coming, but because of inflation! I bought supermarket brand oats for 29p for 500gms on special last November. Today those oats are 61p!
By the way, it's not the big things that worry me, it's that no western society seems to be gearing up at all for the day when there is no oil! We probably have 100 years of oil left, but it will take 100 years to change our societies to a non oil based one!

My reply to non-preppers is this: the worst thing that can happen to a prepper is that they'll save a ton of money if the s never hits the fan.
It's like people are in a fog. Food is as inexpensive as it's going to be. At the very least, stocking up makes sound fiscal sense. At most, when all the stores are empty (in about 2 days) it could mean your kids or grandkids get the chance to grow up.

My motto has always been "it is better to have and not need, then need and not have." Food storage makes great economical sense. Food prices never go down. If you rotate your stock, what is wrong with having food around? It will be someone like you who comes knocking on my door asking if you can borrow some food. There is no reason not to be prepared. It is similar to buying life insurance. You hope you dont die, but IF you do, its all good. Fine line between being paranoid and prepared.

I stock food not because I believe the end of the world is coming, but because of inflation! I bought supermarket brand oats for 29p for 500gms on special last November. Today those oats are 61p!
By the way, it's not the big things that worry me, it's that no western society seems to be gearing up at all for the day when there is no oil! We probably have 100 years of oil left, but it will take 100 years to change our societies to a non oil based one!

I agree with you on these crazies with Beck on the lead, but then you lost me when dismissing global warming and disasters. Really "they're" gonna take care of us? Who? It's always good to have some kind of emergency preparedness, for tough times. Look at Hurricane Katrina, you never know what's up ahead. Let's hope we never become a state of war, but I am precisely afraid of these crazies holding guns and wanting a revolution. Watch Contagion...and maybe you'll change your mind.
