What they need to slash is spending. Our current tax system needs to be replaced with either a flat (income) tax or a fair (consumption) tax.
Unfortunately, the "model" Susan is referring to is this "buying votes by giving away free lunches" system we have in place now. Those getting the taxpayer's money, and those giving it away, are far too interested in keeping that flawed system in place.
