  • It's like giving somebody apple juice and claim it's scotch. They'll act drunk.

  • "its a kind a magic"

  • So that means I can have 8 arms?!? Hooray!

  • "His left upper extremity" - as good a name as any other for the arm

  • -"What do you do for a living?"

-"Oh nothing much, I work in the PAIN MANAGEMENT DIVISION"

    Holy shit

  • thinking about biting into a lemon causes salivation doesn't it. What more proof do we need. Thoughts become things. What you believe creates your experience. This is why some people are at peace regardless of circumstances whereas others are perpetually lost in drama ..... beliefs, about self, about life makes it all happen. Change your belief, change your experience.

  • I made a grammatical error on my last post due to my tiny ass iPod touch keypad -:( carts should have been charts.

  • @50candyman he just explained how it is physically possible. By showing us carts of the brain activity when given the placebo drug (phony drug)

  • I learned about placebos when my mother was in med school when I was growing up so I am always convinced that I am getting placebos with every prescription and only once I took a medication for panic attacks (Xanax bars, which are the high dose) and it did nothing at all and think it was a placebo but it was the only one in the bottle like that.... placebos seem akin to mindfulness...

  • how is this physically plausible?

  • Sean Mackey, mmkay.

  • pplacebo shacebo. wacebo, its magic word that u can turn money into gold

  • Woooonderful explanation about placebo effect. It just happens that we got the most powerful thing in our lives, our brain.

  • was there a duration to this placebo? would the pain have come back after awhile? In otherwords does he only get tricked/fooled by the placebo for a short time??

  • maby it has something to do with evolution

people who are very confident(had a succesfull life) will heal, but the not confident(the ones that are genarally weaker then the confident humans) wont heal.

this means that the stronger genes get passed on

  • So what if someone tried to OD on placebo pills?

  • @BlindBaker49 There is no "placebo" medicine......it has no medical purpose they are usually sugar pills......you cant OD on medicine that isnt really medicine....its just you mind being tricked

  • @0AwesomeProductions0 I know that, I said "tried." Would their belief that they would OD, make them feel like they actually OD'd?

  • @BlindBaker49 oic what ur saying......id pry think they would think they would feel ill but nothing would happen

  • @BlindBaker49

You can die from too much of anything.. 500 pounds of placebo pills? You are dead fersure! Placebo pills are not poisonous; its as harmful as a piece of candy.

  • @D4R3W Unless you give the sugars pills to a diabetic :-)

  • @fkoff99

It would not be dangerous to give a diabetic candy. Even diabetics need sugar in order to live. It's when you shuv down 30 placebo pills down the diabetic's throat, then we might have a problem. #LOL

  • @D4R3W I responded to your comment based on the 500 lbs of placebo pills that you cited, so my response to your last comment would be: yes indeed.

  • @BlindBaker49 You're fucking retarded.. The "Pills" are metaphoric. He received no medicine.

  • @M1105X He received placebo pills, which are typically compressed sugar pills or something of the like. Your use of the word "metaphoric," was redundant. Your use of "fucking retarded," was uncalled for and very rude. His question may have been ridiculous but your comment was even more so.

  • This kinda reminds me of the terms "good luck/bad luck" "coincidence"? Does anyone see irony?

  • ''It just so happens, we have a brain.'' found it funny :D

  • Looks like doctors and nurses should wake up patient all the time so they can take medicine verbally and orally and effectively.

  • that 10 out of 10 scares me

  • placebo can work...but it depends. It's not gonna work if you have cancer. But for depression or some pain it can. That's why religion is so sucessful.

  • "That's why religion is so sucessful."

What do you mean by "why religion is so successful?, Successful at what?

  • successful at making people feel better by just believing something. What's so hard to understand baout that?

  • nothing

  • u know what he means,

    ignorant chap

  • actually you didn't provide an argument that proves that religion is successful. Successful how?

  • well.....I'm not religious. But I used to be for a time, and I felt at that time my thoughts were different because of the things I believed. For instance I felt like I was empowered sometimes because of the belief that "god" was on my side.

What do some people say...ignorance is bliss? Something like that. Religion can help with depression. Though I would never condone investing oneself in false beliefs, eventually reality will come along and contradict you and you will be at square one.

  • What you say is partly true. What it is, is that you find peace within yourself, hence making you calmer and more able to face different situations. However, it's not necessarily by believing in God that you achieve such state of mind. Other people can do that too with the exact same results; by chanting (if they are Buddhists), concentrating (if they practice Yoga), and so on. If religion works for you, all for the better.

  • exactly,......I totally agree. But again, I would not be for that kind of thinking. It's not healthy and very hard to maintain. I'll stick with reality, thx lol :)

  • religion never helped me with my depressions

    music helped me alot

  • @strikeout1991 Music masks pain , like drugs . its an escape works great and is legal :D Your depressed because of eviromental factors , what you eat , who you chill with , what you think about , how you take care of your self , hygene , positive or negative thoughts etc are all major factors that cause depression. Mostly its from bordeom or lack of passion in life , that leads you to think about negative things that causes depression :D

  • @strikeout1991 If you understood religion you wouldnt make such a baseless comment.. YOu mean the version of religion you were spoon fed didnt do anything for you =p I assure you as a theologian philosopher in comparative religion , there are good messeges in religion its just the preachers who turn in into politics

  • acually it is successful in providing placebo effects and morality.

  • it used to be successful in the middle ages

where people where superstitious and brainwashed by religion they where paying money to churches cause they promised to people that they'd come to heaven if they'd pay them

    fucked up ages wasn't it?

  • @strikeout1991 Thats the preachers who hijack religion and use it for political means, please dont confuse this with religion. Even today all the religions are guility of not following scriptures and idolizing messengers just like the middle ages , you need more then just a fact check , you need a reality check =d

  • it'll work for cancer check out greg barden the science of miracles part 5 of 7. It's the most profound thing you'll ever see the power of intent!! forget religion all it does is segregate people.... (All Is One) peace....

  • superb it's all illusion

    but feels real

  • Okay, now that I have heard the Placebo effect, wouldn't people who already knows what this means, will not believe pills will do anything to them?

  • Even if you know your taking a placebo it can still work.

For example birth control comes with a placebo pill to take make your body think its still taking the pill but its actually just sugar and has no medical significance

  • Hmm, interesting, thank you.

  • he has the same keyboard as me

  • More proof we dont need the "power" of pharmacys and thier bullshit remedies, but rather harnassing the power of our mind.

  • That is right before these modern viagra, pennicilin profiteers maybe 100 years ago some fewer people managed to live 80-90 years in very likely primitive sanitized conditions.

  • Nicely explained.

  • Excellent video, and topic.
