sounds like scott afb. we used to take photos of anything and everything. the official photos were the best. handing you a bag full of ribbons and expect you to assemble it for them. and to think i cross trained to flightline. f... me that was worse
wow.. you hit the nail on the head. I wont say who I worked for, but this is exactly what my life was like!!!!! wow!!!! you are incredible!!!!! I love this! ohhhhh my gosh, I lived with this for like 1.5 years of torturesssssss life. .. .. thank you thank you!
It's all so true! Customers tend to think we live to take unnecessary pictures when there's a mission out there that needs to be shot. People don't seem to know how undermanned we really are and how much more our job is than photo lab. God bless regulations that don't allow us to take silly photos!
8 years in Combat Camera in the Marine corps. And this is sooooo very accurate to the kind of whacked out things I've seen and heard. The ONLY exception we ever made for as far as our hours of operation were concerned was for the Commandant, Assistant Commandant, and the SgtMaj of the Marine Corps. Even having the mission statement and our policies in big red and yellow letters, printed, mounted, and laminated on an 18x24 wasn't enough to educate the masses. A lot of them just don't get it.
I'm an AF PAO with limited personnel assets. I laughed way too hard over this video! Definitely a classic. Thank goodness we have a strong UPAR program to help us handle these type of photo requests.
Combat Camera here... We actually shoot everything that little animal said we cant shoot. Im in the Army however so maybe its different. But great video btw its freakin awesome to see the humor of what our customers are like.
@SykotikSoldier Yup. It is different. The AF is cutting back a lot of those niceties. re-focusing our efforts on what the commanders goals are. Which means significant drop in grip and grins and less "The general is there so you have to take pictures" kind of jobs.
@CraneRyan88 Nice. It sounds like you guys are doing what the soldiers and myself in the photo lab are trying to do. I like where the AF is going with that.
Or, for USMC PA - "Is this Public Affairs?" "Can you take my photo?" "No, you need to go to Combat Camera." "That's what I said, Public Affairs - you guys are the combat camera right?" "Fuuuuuu.....Looks like it's lunch time, deuces man."
Ok first off, what they are supposed to do is document the Mission of the host unit for official records. Do a search for Air Force Maintenance or Air Force Operation Enduring Freedom, you'll see what they are supposed to be documenting. The person who created this video is obviously not working at a PA with leadership and experience enough to have his photographers out doing what they are supposed to be doing..else that "teddy bear" would have said the correct answer.
@b52hguns I think you might have missed the point of the video, but thanks for your insight. You are correct. Our job is to align ourselves and our work effort with the commanders vision and mission. Unfortunately over the years we migrated our services to a customer service based career field, which, like you said, is unfortunate. Like most PA offices we are doing our best to make that transition. Maybe the bear should have said that. :P
Why does this not surprise me? PA absorbing the VI career fields. Yeah right, brilliant idea. I can just hear Darcie saying these exact things. They went to her because they were afraid of me.
