Minneapolis, MN, NE 8th street - July 4 after fireworks. A blind woman with the refective white and orange cane was LEGALLY in the crosswalk.. Motorist passed with in inches... I was on a bicycle and stopped, still EVERYONE passed, even other cyclists. Till I reached for my U-LOCK and was screaming bad things to stupid people.
Tickets and fines do nothing - TAR AND FEATHER them! I bet they will learn faster.
Ok, so let me get this straight. You approach a through-way intersection (one that either has no stop sign or light. Or one with a full green light.) at 30 mph. As you roll across the near crosswalk someone steps into the far crosswalk (60 feet away). In heavy traffic, you are suppose to slam on your brakes and come to a screeching halt to allow someone, who is probably going to stop once they hear you skidding, cross the street? I wounder how much the insurance companies will loose on this law?
And so the pedestrians have no responsibility when they suddenly decide to walk ACROSS the direction of trafffic? Amazing!! And this comes from me who walks much much more than drive!!!

Great to see more targeted crosswalk enforcement campaigns. We have them out here in MD. If you never enforce the law, drivers won't respect the law.

In California, vehicles are suppose to stop in both directions for pedestrians once they are in a crosswalk regardless of which side.
However, yes, this seemed odd. The decoys sometimes looked to be slowing down as if to encourage the cars to go through while they were waiting, as pedestrains paying attention might normally do.

I've driven in South Central LA where people are often in the middle of the intersection jaywalking. When the intersection has a light with a turn arrow, you have to wait even when the arrow is green because people are still in the street. By the time they're out of the way, the arrow has changed to red. Drivers can get screwed every which way in CA.
I think there are maybe better things to do than jam people up for that. Are we seriously supposed to yield everytime there is a pedestrian? Won't that snarl traffic? Maybe even cause accidents? Pedestrian also have a responsibility to be cognizant of whats going on around them, that means NOT WALKING OUT IN FRONT OF A CAR. Safety First!
