Fuckin awesome the movie and soundtrack, Escape from New York is one of those movies that has a genre of its own. They can make remakes, sequels to it, whatever they want, but they'll never capture that same feel.
@davko79 they didnt reuse it for bev cop 2, but faltmeyer was influenced by the disco pop cow bell sound used in many songs. Faltmeyer didnt set out to copy this soundtrack even though both sounds very very similar.
Great song and movie. The Thing is the best movie... not the best Carpenter, the best of all times, including the soundtrack. But I love this ost too... I'm looking for the song of the now extinct John Carpenter myspace forum, that was great.
@JonnyBoy241 hollywood at that time was searching for a new kind of movie and post apocalptic thrillers were very popular during the early to mid 80's, they went out of style once the cop show boom of miami vice and law and order came into popularity. then hollywood started majorly cutting budgets to everything so for many years after that they just couldnt aford to make future movies.
If you like John Carpenter's scores check out my channel. I made a concept record that involves deconstructing Carpenter's scores and remixing Lil Waynes tracks with the deconstructed scores. It is super dark and heavy.
EFNY was a great movie- original, chilling (the crazies were the first take on the 'sprinting cannibals" I can remember, years before we had "28 days later". EFLA copied a number of scenes through poor script writing- the basketball sudden death game, the switch at the end- EFLA should have been so much better and sadly wasn't. It was disappointing to say the least. Kurt was okay, but it felt he was going through the motions instead of acting. It's, very sadly, a poor sequel.
The United States is a non-smoking nation. No smoking, no drugs, no alcohol, no women; unless of course you're married, no foul language and no red meat!
this is the theme song to my in laws when they arrive, then when they leave. yes, they are that bad. thats when I escape from my house. anyway, this movie is A #1.
@Justdisco Just, he did copy the opening music to escape. I mean you got the cowbell, the ticking noise like a clock is ticking down, all we need is that base to kick in and Brigette Nielson to jump out of a limo
yeah ive seen more than one young kid get into these classics. surprisingly they get just as attached to em as we did. after watching this one night, my friend's son said "that was awesome". let em watch "the thing" too lolol
haha, well im a little bit older than you in my 30s and its great to see todays youth catching on to such cult classics like this. you have to search for the classic movies these days as there are tons of them to be found. im still searching. this is still one of my all time favorites! i recommend mad max 1 and the road warrior if you like this! all time favs!
Couldn't have said it better myself! I turned 30 in November and grew up with these kind of movies and I am thankful for it. I went through three tapes of Escape all in all because I watched them so often, the cassettes literally fell apart LOL!!
There is something about these movies that cannot be done again.
Have you ever seen The Warriors by Walter Hill?
Awesome movie, too!!
But nothing beats Plissken! My all time favourite lone gunmen character!
of course ive heard of the warriors, i own it on dvd. im in the process of checking out 1990 the bronx warriors which looks like a rip off of escape from ny and warriors. check out the trailer on here. there is even a gang in there that look like the baseball furies mixed with the hi hats. looks pretty classic. i have special edition escape that includes the deleted opening scene as well as a comic book. just ordered it on blue ray as well. classic movie! its a toss up between mad max and escape
There you go, a man of my taste. I got the german special edition of Escape, also including the deleted opening and commentary by Carpenter and Russell.
Nice, but not as entertaining as Carpenter and Piper on They life.
Never saw The Bronx Warriors looks great, though!
I just like the raw atmosphere of these movies.
Ever saw Fighting Centurions (if that's the US title) by Lucio Fulci? Just got a very rare german uncut DVD, but
This is a fantasic movie and a great score!.I hope they don't remake it.just digitaly remaster the original if they havn't done so already & let the youth of today see what great films were released in the early 80's in their entirety.
They are already remaking it :(, and the youth today ( ADD generation) cant sit still long enough for some real character developments, so they will probably hate this movie or find it boring
@kerblesRHCP I don't think it's the best film ever made... and there is no best film ever made. There just isn't a movie that is just completely excellent and perfect in every way. People can have favourites and opinions though.
I cannot thank you enough for posting this Video. You are my Hero. This was my favorite track throughout the entire movie and I finally get to enjoy listening to it, thanks to you. By the way, "Call me Snake."
